Sorry accidentally hit post. Anyways they are going to stay in seedy hotels/long term rentals/cheap apartments while the dad investigates reports of various occults/aliens among the various worlds.
Okay, my retirement home is underway. Loosely modeling it on very fuzzy memories of my grandparent's apartment, so a mix of Art Deco and Mid Century for the exterior, six very beige two bedroom apartments for the interior, and eventually a utilities room, yoga studio and community room with game tables and such. When I upload it to the gallery, I'll have one apartment completely done as a "model" unit, and the rest will be empty except for fixtures/cabinets. Then I'll trick out all the units for the sims I plan to move in there. (WIP pic is in the Lots thread, as I didn't want to spam this one.)
I came to the realization that if I wanted rules for the apartments, even if I never planned to play as a landlord, someone was going to need to own those buildings, so I forsee the Landgraabs indeed living up to their name and buying up any place I don't have any other landlord in mind, so that I can set up all the building rules.
San Sequoia has got a huge make over. Victorian and painted ladies houses on all scales and everywhere ---the landlord/investors are moving in. The views from the balcony are gorgeous!
I made the house from the Real World in San Francisco. I always loved that season, and loved that house. When I visited in 20 years ago I mafe my bf take me there. It's so nice to virtually move in. The too two floors will be regular roommate chaos, but there is still room on the first floor for a full apartment, and ground floor I will leave for garage and garage type activities. Roof top hot tub has activities too. I will post photos when it's complete with landscaping & all.
I may actually need to learn how to build. I want to rent out lodging to extended family members in my historical save. But since they live in HoB I don't imagine I'll be able to find 19th century friendly builds any time soon that would fit what I'm looking for. So I'll probably have to build it myself. Yuck.
I wasn’t all that keen on the pack to begin with but I’ve realised that I might be able to use it to create multi-unit retirement homes for my legacies. One of them, that is about to start gen 7, has a lot of elder relatives and I’d like to have them all in the same place for easier urn collection 😆. But I’d need to be able to put them into those units without going through a landlord, so I’ll be interested to see how that might work.

This is a great idea and I'm looking forward to having a bunch of my legacy characters in one place too!
First, though, I've been working on a sim to test the pack with and I'm thinking she might get a few townhouses to look after from her parents. She's been living a good life thanks to their money, but now it's time to learn some responsibility and to take matters into her own hands.
Now that we've seen a feature trailer I'm wondering if I'll be able to find apartment builds with most of what I'm looking for. Without requiring major renovations.
I want apartments with space for several common areas. Gym, laundry, a cozy sitting room with comfy couches, bookshelves, game tables, etc. and a playroom for kids. A shared outdoor space with pool and room for entertaining. Also space for the utility room.

I completely agree. For the first time in the Sims 4, I'm actually trying to teach myself to build because I'm so concerned that I won't be able to find exactly what I want in the apartments on the gallery. I've always been able to find houses I like, but ... there are so many different ways to go with the apartments and amenities, and since everyone has their own desires for the builds that I'm not sure how anyone will ever have the exact apartments they want unless they build them themselves.

Thanks for the idea! I currently have a retirement home *with* a residence section, which can easily be the landlord function. My "landlord" is the manager, and she serves meals in the common area. Renters only have a small tea/coffee kitchen nook without a fridge and stove. I currently play all 4 sections + manager as one household, but I will definitely use the landlord functionality for this lot. Common area is way bigger than each unit, so I expect to see those elders every now and then when not played.

This is what I'm hoping for. That my sim (landlord Julianna) will be able to interact with most of the tenants (friends and family) in the shared spaces.
I have 15 households of extended family and this would make it easier to stay in touch.
@FatTribble23 I'm seriously considering a build contest if I can't find anything suitable. I'm not a builder and have absolutely no desire to spend that time on learning how. 😄

Ah, well, I'm retired and disabled so what else do I have to do? I do try to stay busy and keep the ole brain cells firing, so I do try to learn new things and right now building in the Sims seems as good a choice as any.
I think a build contest is an awesome idea! What kind of apartment building would it be? Townhomes, a duplex, a modern city building?
I'm looking for a two level with four units on the second floor. Three apartments for tenants and one for the landlord. All shared space on the first level.

I expect that I'll probably use the gallery pretty much the same way I always do. There are so many amazing exteriors that I could never recreate; I just don't have the skill for it, so it's a huge help to me to download those lots. But then I usually don't like the way they are decorated at all, and often I even find the floor plan doesn't work very well for me. So I tend to download and then gut the interior, or at least drastically redecorate.
So I think this will be more of the same: download some great-looking builds, and then massively renovate them to fit my gameplay. Fortunately, I actually enjoy that part of B/B, as opposed to placing a roof and building foundations and so on.

How adorable! I'd like to give it a go. Mind you I have exactly ONE completed build to my name, and I did it last night LOL. It's just a simple craftsman house, a long way from an apartment unit! How many bedrooms and baths for the apartments? I have to confess that the building isn't giving me as much trouble as floor plans.
I cannot make promises obviously but I'll give it the old college try. I'll attach a pic of my brand new baby, you're always so proud of your firstborn aren't you?
Right now though I have to lay my old carcass down for a nap. I'll start on it probably tonight and have something to show tomorrow.
@FatTribble23 your craftsman is charming. 😊 Much better than anything I could produce. 😄
I think I'm partial to the first floor plan. 3 bedroom, 2 bath. I'll probably use the third bedroom for a nursery or office. Bottom floor for shared space can be left empty if you prefer.
Any of the following lot sizes are fine. As long as there's ample outdoor space in the back.
40×30, 40×40, 50×40, 50×50, 64×64
Or if you'd just prefer to build the main unit and then I could just put it on a larger lot and complete the outside.
I appreciate whatever you're able to come up with.

Do you want just the shell, or fully decorated? I have the shell finished but decorated takes quite awhile.
When I get it, I definitely would like to create little neighborhoods in the biggest lots in the worlds I play. Apartments, too. Also, when I'm playing a family and gets multi-generational, I'd put the older generation(s) in their own rooms so they become NPCs and so I don't have to feel so inclined to micromanage them. TBH, the latter scenario is the one that is the one I'm looking the most forward to.

Sounds like a fun idea. Hopefully you'll be a full member by the time the pack releases and can share some gameplay pics with us.

I am Lori57 in the gallery.
I plan to put apartments or townhouses or duplexes in most worlds.
