I don't think I'd join a discord for The Sims as I find simmers in the wild to be nasty. I really only participate here on the forum and in low-sodium simmers on Reddit. I love the game and dislike scrolling through tons of game bashing.
You raise a good point, a Discord would be awesome.
They said the exact opposite but ok? (well, while I do understand the concerns many players have with this game, to a lot of Simmers TS4 is a safe space and an escape from the hectic real world/life, so not everyone wants to deal with even more negativity in the digital world)
They said a Discord could be wild, nasty and full of bashing. That sounds awesome
Are you trolling at this point? This makes me upset.
I don't think moderators will allow drama there, they will probably keep the same standards as for the forums. As for trolls, I'm pretty sure I've spotted a few even on these forums.
My question right now is, are the news supposed to be controversial for the community or for the game itself? What I mean is, any change in EAs social media presence wouldn't affect my enjoyment of the game itself. At the very worst they could shut down the forums, but then I could still play my game and get news and engage with simmers elsewhere.
If the controversial news were about the game itself, that would be much more anxiety inducing. Now that EA app forces us to periodically go online we cannot just ignore an update we don't like for months.
I noticed that Brickset (a pretty well-known Lego community and database I've been a member of for ages) was moving its forum to Discord as well. What's interesting here is that the Sims Forums and the Brickset Forum were the only two that I was on that used Vanilla Forums for its software/hosting.
I'm a member of various Discords as they are the official means of communication for a number of mods, indie games, and software projects that I've messed with over the years. Quite frankly, I don't really like it. Hard to find older stuff, and not as well organized. I prefer a more or less traditional forum compared to Discord and Reddit.
Is it possible that they are moving the Sims forums to the Electronic Arts forums?
Because I have had a lot of trouble getting to the Sims forums lately. Whenever I used to search for it on Google, I just typed in Sims forums, and it pops up. But now, it just comes up with Electronic Arts forums. I had a lot of trouble finding this website at all.
I could potentially see them moving to discord also, but it wouldn't surprise me if they completely transition to the EA Forums instead.
@bixters have you tried adding it to your bookmarks on your computer or adding the page to your phone's home screen?
I'll probably bookmark it in the future. I just found it odd that Google didn't come up with it when I searched for it, even though it used to pop right up.

How weird! I have it BM'd but I have searched for it many times through Google when I'm not at my main PC and it always popped up.
Searching just now, after reading your post, it doesn't pop up for me either.
I tried searching:
Sims4 Forum
Sims Forum
The Sims Forum
and the only "official" link that Google search showed was for the one on the EA site.
I have it bookmarked on my phone and I have each sub forum bookmarked I use most.. I'm using Samsung Internet since it goes to dark mode at night. I have no problem getting here.
I hope they're not going to replace the forums with a discord.
I also noticed it is hard to find the forums when doing a Google search. I mostly use my phone and have bookmarks. But when I use a pc and search for sims forum I only get results for answer HQ. This started a few weeks ago. It feels like EA might be preparing to pull the plug on the forum.

Yes I have had problems getting to the forums too through google. But I found out that the link to get here is:
forums.thesims.com/en_us
I too hope they don’t replace the forums either. I spend more time here than I probably do on my game because I come to the forums on my phone.
Shutting down the forums would be a horrible idea. The loss of content, information, and sharing of knowledge and stories, and the scattering of online friendships is a depressing thought. This forum is a huge part of the Sims experience and community. God forbid it came to pass but I would hope someone or some group in the community would band together to start an unofficial one. I think of all we'd lose and I hope it never comes to reality. It's too depressing.

I think people are getting too hung up on the word controversial. "Controversial" was @ULIBABA66's choice of words, here on the forum, and while it's a reasonable interpretation of what SimMattically actually said ("cause discord"), it's not the only possible interpretation. "Discord" could just be a play on words with multiple possible interpretations, and it doesn't necessarily mean that anything will be controversial at all.
Regarding of google... IRL friend of mine , who is in horse community around here, mentioned today that something must of been changed in google search recently, as she and others have had troubles finding things she used to do.
Nothing to do with sims, I apologize for off topic, but listening to her reminded me of this thread.
My love, my love, my fearless love, I will not say goodbye..
Sea may rise, sky may fall, My love will never die..
My heart, my heart, My drowning heart, Oh all the tears I've cried
Oh I may weep forevermore, My love will never die..

Nooo now I really do think it could be about the forums shutting down, now that would indeed be controversial...

Don't worry, that will never happen. All the customer-made polls here are a golden treasure for the team.

I'm wondering too if it could also be a brand new forums. Still it's own stand alone forum, but all new. This version has been having little features breaking for a few months now. Some have been fixed, some haven't. Those who were around for the great forum 'Rich Text' experiment a while back when @EA_Cade tried to improve things by switching away from BBCode will remember how quickly things got controversial. Just short of villagers storming the castle gates with pitchforks in hand. I will say, he had the best of intentions. Who knew it would all go pear-shaped like it did?🙂
If they launched a brand new forum a lot of this content might, stress might, be lost, and/or people would lose stats. That could be controversial too, if that is a feature people feel is important. Changing up the layout of the forum and getting away from the comfortable one we're all so used to where we can find any section with our eyes closed could stir the pot. These are more comforting thoughts as far as upheaval to our beloved forums than the loss of it entirely.
They will need mods, but better control over it than x. I never use twitter only for the sims. I's much rather a discord. It can me sorted and even phone call and video chat-- and it's a private community. Pretty nice if they do start a discord. All the sim streamers have their own.

OMG I also never find the Sims forums on Chrome anymore! That was bothering me recently, but I am glad it's not just me
That's exactly why I think the forum might be in danger. EA mainly focuses on teens on social media.
