A career is a must-have. Cowboy, ranch hand, idk. Bonus if we got an active career, even if that career was just working on a secret lot ranch, doing what we'd do on our own farsms. It'd be fun for storytelling, and my sims who don't have a ranch could still get to the experience.
It woudn't have to be a secret lot. They could work at the competition center. Train horses, clean up manure, fix a fence, collect hay, etc.
If we get unicorns, wonder if we can enter them in competitions and whether they would have special skills.
Out of curiosity, what else are you wanting from this pack? Meaning what other ideas were you thinking of? I get people saying it could have been a game pack, however I don't think the money/resources cost would have been sufficient for it.
Unicorns would be my #1 addition. Actual unicorns, with powers. Even a small quest to get them would add a lot of gameplay value for me, and it would create a ton of story potential for my playthroughs.
I'd also like more rabbit holes in the town to make it less of an empty shell, and make playing in the world more engaging. Ideally, the wild parts of the world could have had some areas only accessible to riders, like how some parts of Mt. Komorebi could only be reached by climbing.

Another crafting skill wouldn't hurt. Weaving is niche, but if fits the world and could lead to some nice Indigenous items.
I'd also hope the horse competitons were interactive, like the ones in Sims 3. But I'm fine if they're rabbit holes, since we have skills and noticable progression systems to make you feel like you're working hard.
Aaaand if I could get greedy, roaming wild animals, like with Sims 3 pets. In all worlds, or at least in Chestnut Ridge. It would make the world feel so alive.
I wouldn't expect to have ALL of thesez but a few would go a long way towards making the pack feel full. The unicorns alone would make me so happy.
Unicorns are still up in the air, though I will admit it doesn't look hopeful. The horns were not visibile in CAS, either with the "bangs" or the accessories, so the horns are likely accquired some other way. Possibly your desired quest. I know they didn't show anything about them, and I don't blame people for assuming the worst, but it is an assumption, not fact.
We also didn't see the horse competitiions because they didn't get there in time. Yes, they are likely a rabbit hole, but again, we don't know because it hasn't been shown one way or the other.
There are at least 2 buildings in town where you can at least interact and do things - a clothing store and a general store. Maybe not rabbit holes, but it's more than most other town shells. Again, we didn't see this in action, because they got to town too late in the day. Could/should they have fast forwarded to the next day and edited it out? Probably, but they didn't.
I'll agree that the lack of actual "live" livestream was a bit off, and there are probably elements of the pack that aren't as polished as they want that they avoided in the livestream, but I'm seeing a pack that makes more sense as an EP than Island Living ever did.
Did anyone notice if any townies were riding horses in the livestream? I don't recall seeing any. I wonder if the only sims on horseback will be part of the active household. I never see townies on bikes either.

Didn't notice riding townies but I do occasionally see NPCs riding a bike in my game.

I'll be glad to be proven wrong (unless unicorns are done absolutely dirty), but I think it's safe to assume at this point. Even the guy who leaked horse ranch's main features is saying they're fake. And tbh, if the horn is just an accessory earned through a quest, it wouldn't be nearly as fun as having an actual unicorn.

I'd be glad to be proven wrong. If we get what Sims 3 had or better, then that would be a point towards the pack having more content. But if it ends up being just a rabbit hole, it'd be a downgrade over what Sims 3 had.
I can't say for sure if the pack is heavily lacking because I don't know if these are in the pack. (I mean I can, since it's all but confirmed and waiting for release is just a formality at this point.) But if they aren't, that's more stuff the pack is lacking, and I would feel like I was right. If I'm wrong, then I get a pack with some good stuff, and I'm happy.

Yeah, it's better than most, I can at least appreciate that they're slightly above useless. But the clothing store is a glorified wardrobe outside your lot, and we always ALWAYS have general stores or booths that do pretty much the same thing. The general store also loses functionality when you can just buy goats and sheep at home, through the phone.
With rabbit holes, at least for me, it feels like your sim is actually doing something. Like with the cinema in San Sequoia, it gave you a reason to leave the lot and experience something in the world. You got buffs. It could be an activity you do with others. You got a unique-looking building in the world. It was just a simple rabbit hole, we've seen the concept many times. But it was more fun, deep and interactive than empty shells, a wardrobe, or a reskinned kiosk.

Oh yeah, Island Living was a shallow pack. I agree there. But tbh, comparing these two packs is like comparing a slug to a snail in a race against horses - one clearly has an advantage over the other, but they're still going to get blown away by the competition. Unless the snail is Turbo. But Horse Ranch isn't Turbo.

I think the unicorn horn was in the CAS items preview not because you need to fake a unicorn but because it’s an accessory for their horn which is why it wasn’t visible when they went through the CAS items for horses on the livestream. No unicorn = no unicorn accessories.

Yes, I really hope we somehow are getting unicorns, but I wonder (if they aren't) if they're holding them for a faerie/medieval/dragons pack. It would be cool to climb on top of a mesa! They could make a ranch hand a part time career or odd job--wonder if they'd ever patch that in.

Wonder why they didn't add real unicorns? I mean they had the horn and everything, all they needed to add was some sort of unique characteristics to make them feel like a real unicorn. Could have been a unicorn trait that made them fulfill wishes or something if you fed them flowers, and poop massive super fertile rainbow poop piles.

My guess is they either ran out of time, or their budget didn't allow it. We know The Sims team only gets a shoestring budget for these pack.
If they did run out of time before they could add in unicorns, that will be a bigger problem, because then the animations and features won't be polished either, and we might have a repeat of My Wedding Stories...
