Not worth it for me.
I am not buying anymore packs until this series is done and I will just pick them up at a discount.
Too many new games coming out, including a new life simulator. TS4 is just going on too long for me and getting too pricey for what you get.
I understand why people compare content with older games but it’s not really fair. Technology has changed and you can’t really make a 1:1 comparison. The time and resource it takes to make things and the level of quality people expect is different than it was 15 years ago and way different than it was from sims 2. What was once a little piece of art and a menu now is a lot of complex animations and coding.
It’s the same in most modern games. They used to have very varied levels but now recoloured versions of the same level over and over. Because it takes longer and costs more to make that level than it did all the ones in the older games. So there’s more focus on doing one thing good than adding lots of little nice to haves.
I would love my sim to have a pet snake. But that just isn’t as easy to make as it would have been in older games, and they need to make decisions on how best to spend their time.

Yeah I don't buy any packs at full price anymore lol I either use cdkeys (where it's priced closer to a GP which I think is a fair price) or wait. This pack looks cute and I do think I'll enjoy it, but I sure as hell ain't spending 40 on this lol
And man do I wish we got better cross-pack compatibility. Like I really wish vets could also treat cows, llamas, horses, goats - maybe even specialize in one over the other. But that's obviously neverrrr going to happen.

Are you repeating the old excuses from 2014, it's too hard and too expensive? That's the very reasons I left TS4.

Lmao yes every company in the world is trying to make their games more lifelike, expansive and add more stuff to do. Meanwhile, EA likes skinning experiences further and further down in an eternal social experiment called: just how little can we get away with.
> @SimTrippy said: > Meanwhile, EA likes skinning experiences further and further down in an eternal social experiment called: just how little can we get away with.
I think kits represent the epitome of this, which is why I refuse to buy one. The only kits I have are the free ones.
Sims 4's additions are nice QOL changes (though stuff like pet sickness are horribly implemented and can make things worse - anyone remember the mass vomit glitch?), but we should be expecting those changes in addition to what we got in the past. I know tech is getting expensive, but Horse Ranch has 10 years over pets - we need to see innovation and upgrades, not just switching out some content for others, or spreading out content in little bits over multiple pieces of content for more money.
This is the second time we're buying a pack with horses. In a series where we're constantly buying content we got last iteration. In a series that's designed to spam DLC at you so that, even if you don't have to buy everything, it's specifically meant to milk a lot of money out of people. I'm fine with having to pay for content we had previously; they still need to make money for their work, they need to fund expanding the game, and we can still get new and unique experiences with new iterations. But I feel like, after all this time and money spent, they should try to match or exceed the amount of stuff we got last time.
If HR is just what we see on the surface, then it's just content that we got before, with a few small QOL changes. If we put them in Cats & Dogs + MFPS and made it one big Pets pack, it'd only match up to past content, and that's majorly subjective because I'd easily take inventory pets, wild animals and unicorns over pets pooping golden 🐸🐸🐸🐸 or throwing up all over my floor.
That said, I think Horse Ranch can stand on its own, even if Sims 3 Pets exists. Cats & Dogs was an overall downgrade, but Horse Ranch could throw in a lot of content to make a unique, deep experience. We've seen nectar-making and new animals, which is a good step in the right direction. And once again, I ask asking for unicorns, because that relatively simple addition would provide so, so much gameplay potential.

It’s not an excuse though, it’s a rather obvious reason. Technology changed. Current gen games are more expensive to make, need more people to make, take longer to make and require more system resources than they did for the old games.
People wouldn’t like it if sims packs suddenly cost 3x the price or went back to sims 2 level of visuals/performance which is what would have to happen to deliver the same amount of things in a pack.
Note that the Sims 4 already scaled back in so many areas in comparison to Sims 3, and Sims 2 outperforms it in a few areas as well. I can understand the need of cutting back on some animations and detail, I can understand not taking on gameplay that would be overly complex. But we're getting a more limited game and less content, except they sometimes make the content deeper.
I'd also be fine with them focusing less on visuals, because too much is focused on looks rather than gameplay. So much set dressing, so many decorations, so many things are form over function.

Considering the Dream Home Decorator pack has been broken (not just glitchy, completely broken and unplayable) for over a year now, I can't see myself rushing out to buy this pack if that's the standard of quality care and control they're giving us. I did recently buy Dine Out, because that at least appears to be working better now. I'm loathe to buy another pack that I end up surprising myself with, and really getting into, only to have the gameplay aspect of it stop working all together and then get lumped with a pack I can't even use. I'm not exactly made of money, and I expect some level of quality assurance from what I do buy.

Actually, back in 2014 Maxis bragged how little work the TS4 engine would require making dozens and dozens of add ons. They even said they wouldn't need as many engineers to add all these packs. That sounds less expensive to me if it wouldn't require expensive engineer game people. And we all know by now that TS4 has lag and tremendous amounts of bugs, the very reasons for dumping open world, a memory system, and Create A Style, along with dumping cars, etc. so this game wouldn't be like that. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with your surmising that things are more expensive. TS4 has less employees and interns than the older games, and has made way, way over a billion in revenue. More than even TS1 back in the day, so, I can't go along with how hard and expensive things are compared to older games. Especially when they themselves said they could use less employees and could do more than with more employees because of TS4's engine.
"Games Are Not The Place To Tell Stories, Games Are Meant To Let People Tell Their Own Stories"...Will Wright.
The sims teams is able to make things like open world, pet snakes, pet birds, etc. Its the game they are working with that is the issue. TS4 was never intended to be the game it is today and I truly don't even think they thought it'd get this popular either, they got lucky. They clearly still have some of the same people working on TS4 that were for TS3, they know how the game was then as compared to now, and they clearly have experience. The foundation of TS4 is in shambles, which is the main issue. It is not too hard to do these things with today's technology, in fact it'd be easier. It's TS4 specifically that is the issue. TS3 was also unstable because its engine was an EA original one and the game was poorly optimized. It was SO ambitious for it's time and for the outdated engine they were working on. It is possible to get back what TS3 had but better and more stable, but it's up to EA & the the team that makes those decisions to choose to do so.
Really ?! You need to have Cottage Living to get whool and milk from the mini goats and sheep ? Oh, come on !!
That's ridiculous. I also think it's weird that they just go in your inventory, like a toy. There's no house or anything special for them. It didn't even look like they had any needs either.

Yeah, they're like chickens, but with no coop to go back to.
wow, I'm so impressed. they showed so much gameplay we didn't see before, like.....sometimes, if they're feeling cranky, your horse might scare a goat. wooooah.
If the lack of housing item means goats and sheep can live in your sims' house, I'm happy.
Too bad the world is so bare. Glad we have places to see, and we have a pretty sweet swimming hole. But the canyons are mostly just empty space, and the town square is like 90% non-interactable shells.

I'm in between good and bad after that livestream tbh. So I'll post in both threads. After the end I'm left with two main thoughts of what actually bugged me. And only 1 was a biggie.
They're fully part of the household. Like, hear me out I'm glad that they aren't tied to a stable or a world. But, and I've been consistent in saying this, they needed to make pets separate. You can't just keep adding more household members and leaving the household limit at 8. You literally just gave us a pack about growing our sim families, and now if we want a dog, a cat, and a horse, we can only have 5 sims. If a grandparent lives with them, you can only have 2 kids. No animals can have offspring/mates.
They literally added breeding functionality for the horses but you can't even keep that up if your sim wants a bigger, or even average size family from like the 2000s when it was all "the average family has 2.5 children, and two parents."
They made the goats and sheep very much like the animals from cottage living. And I get that. But like they should've handled this. We keep paying the price of fully completed games for expansions and gamepacks. And they're never that fully fleshed out, nor do they come without breaking everything. I was really ready to at least give them the benefit of the doubt, and hold out hope for the future, if they at least did the basics for making this work right.
When I saw those horses on the same level as the sims, and no clarification other than them being part of the family, I was disappointed.
The second thing was just no unicorns. I was disappointed to see that the onsie I thought was a horn was a actually hair. And they called it a horse onsie. They really made a rainbow horse. Maybe they were channeling my little pony and I didn't even think of it bc I wanted to see unicorns, and fairies had been teased so much.
I'm gonna go to the positive thread and say the things I did think were okay that they showed. These two points just bothered me a lot.
Check out my posts in the Ideas corner, and see the Simsverse living inside my head.
I'm sorry but i've watched some of the live stream and seen comments explaining, and this is not worth $40 Goats can't even produce milk unless you have CL? sounds a bit ridiculous considering the lack of expanding this pack is doing even tho it is an EP. This feels unacceptable to me. I like the nod that this world neighborhood name has to TS3 Pets world Appaloosa Plains, but this world like doesn't compare? there is literally no new lot type in site, and as I expected, that community horse ranch thing from the trailer is not even a lot so you'd have to go to the park next door and then go over to it which i'm assuming means it is also a rabbithole building. This seems so incredibly shallow. TS3 pets seems to have offered everything this did in terms for horses and yet also offered like triple the content this pack has and cats and dogs have combined, it truly is wild to witness. and Only 1 extra lot than the recent EPs have had. If you love horses i'm sure you won't care about any of these things and will get this, which hey thats cool enjoy it! For anyone else who does have criticisms and wishes for more depth, I am right there with you. I no longer feel hype for any TS4 content at this point, really saddening because I've loved this franchise for such a long time.
This pack has very little content. I was optimistic until this lifestream. They didn’t even mention unicorns not even as a cas item. I’m so disappointed in the lack of trails. I think that’s my biggest take away. I’ve been loving the hiking and running trails in the last few packs. I was looking forward to doing that with my horse. I feel misled as they were mentioned in the overview.
The live stream was as dissapointing as the trailers. They showed us nothing new.
I wonder what this colaboration with native americans is meant to be. So far I have only seen a few recipies and deco objects. That's all?
What I liked was the cross pack compability with nectar making.
