So I just went out to the garden and my little Bunny statue is missing! To be fair, I think I found it in a dumpster somewhere so it didn't cost me anything. But, it irritates me that it's been STOLEN! 😱 That has to be what happened to it! I had it sitting right next to the bee box and now it's not there!
So of course theft, including bunny-snatching occurs (kleptos of the world unite!) But, if theft is going to be a thing, shouldn't anti-theft measures also be a thing? Maybe like security cameras that aren't just for decoration but actually, I dunno SECURE AN AREA???
Anyway, what are your thoughts? Bunny-snatching, what have we become? *sigh*

The Sims 3 also had that trait, but sims were limited somewhat. They could only steal at night and 3 things max per day. I like that The Sims 4's is tied to Mischief skill and higher skill allows more objects to be stolen. It's fun to play with, I agree, but it's not fun to have guests with this trait show up.
I feel like burglars are a different story as their arrival is announced and you know that they are going to steal. In addition, you can stop them too. But kleptomaniac sims are much more sneaky and random.
One solution I always feel like would help is that stolen objects become transparent (like when you are in a crime scene in the Detective career), which allows you to replace the objects (like when they are broken) or get rid of it and replace it with a different object. On community lots, they could be automatically replaced when you go through a loading screen. Plus more consequences for sims that get caught stealing.
Yes! I agree with everything you said! One thing about TS3 though was that the stolen item was replaced as soon as you left the area. So I had one teen who became rich by stealing the same police car every night. He didn't do it to get rich but, criminal, police...yeah. I'm sure you get the symbolism.
And if they can't afford it, they will be forced to try again elsewhere and hope they don't get caught again since there is no jail.
Indeed. Or let's incorporate returning the object to the owner again thing.
When stealing an object from a residential lot, the object there could be gone up to a week (depends on the object and how necessary they are, so decorations are replaced slower while beds are replaced faster). Returning could immediately restore the object for them, but returning it late will just add some more funds to them.
There is one consequence: negative reputation. But overall, it just makes making friends harder.
Indeed... Being banned to enter a house or venue could be an interesting feature. Plus Get to Work refresh could add jails...
I like both of these! Jail would require adding cops to the game again too.
I had a real-life bunny figure stolen just about a week ago. Those bunny snatchers are EVERYWHERE! And mine cost a whole DOLLAR! 🐰🐰🐰
Why on Earth would someone steal that? C'mon, dude....
