I decided to take the plunge to 1.67 because EIG doesn't work in CAW with the EA app. I did a trial install on my old laptop. I have disks for everything but Showtime, Island Paradise, and Into the Future. The only stuff pack I have on disk is High-End Loft Stuff. I have a bid on eBay for a Katy Perry/Showtime disk. The auction ends in two days and I am the only bidder. I will be buying the other stuff packs as I am able.
I found a thread where igazor walked someone through a disk install. I loaded the game with just the base game installed and played for a bit and everything seems to work. I have everything installed and have run the Super Patch. I declined to install the download manager every time it was offered. As
@ts1depot and
@Damienf519 discussed on another thread, I was already aware of the error message regarding Origin, so I didn't freak out when it came up.
When I quit the launcher using the x, I get a message that the game is still uploading. I don't know what that's about. Is this normal or did I do something to cause this?
After installing everything I had, I noticed that the Launcher doesn't have the option to select specific expansions to play. I guess that was a feature with 1.69. So I am guessing I didn't want to install every single expansion on my old laptop?
Will I have to uninstall expansions until my game isn't super laggy? If so, which expansions would you recommend I play with for now? I ordered a USB CD/DVD drive for my new laptop to do the 1.67 installations there, but the drive won't come in until next Thursday.
I added my Mods folder, including the No CD mod, and am ready to run the game again. And yes, I have the 1.67 version of Error Trap. From what I read, that should be the only NRaas mod that has to be 1.67. Well, apparently, the game doesn't like one or more of the mods. I couldn't get so lucky. I moved most of the NRaas mods out, along with several others from other creators. I was able to load the game without the CD and didn't get the error. So now I have to introduce the mods a few at a time until I find the offending mod. I'll tackle that in the morning. I'm exhausted. Wish me luck.
I am looking for suggestions, hints, tips, and any other tidbits of knowledge you are willing to share that will help make my transition to 1.67 easier.
I know I can start the game without the launcher. Do I want to use the ts3 file or the ts3w file?
For some reason, Dragon Valley didn't install. It seemed to be done far too soon. I'll try again in the morning.
Thanks in advance! I'm really tired, so if any of this doesn't make sense, know that I tried my best.

First question is - Do you have Origin on your computer?
If you do then I don't know if the disk install with Origin already on the computer will succeed. But it might. I had the game installed on my laptop and had Origin and they were good. But with the new computer I didn't put Origin on the PC. I suspect the process will be the same regardless, but you may find your game becomes connected to Origin at some point.
Second question is your base game disk pre September 2012? If not, then the disk install to 1.67 probably won't work. I'm pretty sure it won't work.
If you have a Base Game from before September 2012 then this is how to do it.
1. Install the base game - during the install of the base game you will be asked if you want to install the EADM manager. (It may not be exactly that but you are asked if you want to install something like that.) The way to avoid a link to Origin is to say No to that question when the install process asks for it.
If you accidentally say Yes to the question about installing the manager software, that software will install and then it will upgrade automatically to Origin, or probably the new EA App I suspect. If that happens you can't go back to 1.67 without uninstalling what you've just installed.
You will need the cumulative patch that is available here
https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/175477/official-ea-download-link-for-the-sims-3-cumulative-manual-update#latest
This thread will have all the information on patches.
Once you've got the base game installed and working you can start installing the expansions and stuff packs.
I'm not sure if you need to patch after installing the base game.
It is a good idea, if possible, to install your games in the order in which they were released. This helps if you want to go after badges that were broken by a patch. You can install up to the latest expansion released before a particular patch and use the appropriate patch. I did that when installing on my PC and was able to get the badges that came with Seasons that broke after a later patch.
The order of release is:
Base Game
World Adventures
High End Loft Stuff
Ambitions
Fast Lane Stuff
Late Night
Outdoor Living stuff
Generations
Town Life Stuff
Pets
Master Suite Stuff
Showtime
Katy Perry's Sweet Treats
Diesel Stuff
Supernatural
Seasons
70s 80s 90s Stuff
University Life
Island Paradise
Movie Stuff
Into the Future
It used to be necessary to install in this order but it is no longer necessary unless you want to patch to a certain point.
Once you've installed everything use the Cumulative patch if you are not interested in stopping at another spot. You can patch multiple times so if you want to check how the install is going you could probably run the super patch after each disk is installed and launch the game to see how it's going.
Good luck I hope it works for you.
EDIT: Be careful to choose the correct patch - make sure it's 1.67 and not a later version.

@texansky It's just an error message that has no bearing on your game. Close it out, and the game will run as normal. I've closed it about two dozen times since I reinstalled to 1.67 and have not had any issues.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this has to do with a feature of the game in "options," in which the game was supposed to collect data about your machine and upload it back to EA for analysis, but don't take my word for it.
Yes, this was a feature of 1.69. Whether you will want to install all or some of your EPs is up to how much your system can handle and which EPs you can't see yourself living without. I am planning to install all of my EPs on my other machine but have left out IP, ITF and UN on my current one because all of my current WIPs were built before I got those.
I would install whatever you can't live without in terms of your WIPs and even gameplay. For instance, I don't have ITF, SN and UN on my main machine and don't feel as if I'm missing anything vital by not having them. I could see myself not having World Adventures, Island Paradise or Pets. I absolutely cannot live without Showtime, Ambitions or Late Night, so those are the ones I will have installed no matter what. Again, it all comes down to which EPs you could take or leave, versus which ones you tend to use the most in your gameplay and builds.
As a general rule, I believe that Island Paradise and Pets would be the most laggy on slower machines, because of the new routing system involving boats, as well as wildlife.
There really wouldn't be much point to her having Origin on her computer right now, its pretty much useless not that EA shut it down and forced everyone over to the EA App. Anyone who still does, I would recommend they just delete it
No. Its not bad. Its the only way to get Create A World to work properly at this point, unless you can get it to work with the Steam version of the Sims 3, and even than I have a feeling its the 1.67 version of Create A World that you would use. Patch 1.67 is basically the last version of the Sims 3 that works without either Origin or the EA App
@candyboot I assume @texansky is calling it the "plunge," because many simmers going back to 1.67 are worried about their game breaking and not working with mods and CC.
Plus, going back to 1.67 means that you don't get the option to disable EPs in the launcher, and that you have to do things a little differently than you did before. For instance, if you're a worldbuilder, you have to use the 1.67 version instead of the 1.69 version.
I took the plunge and the worst I've had to deal with are annoying pop ups that tell me that the game can't connect to Origin or that a process has started uploading. I don't have the option to disable packs but in my situation, that option was annoying anyway because sometimes the launcher would automatically disable them without my permission.
1.67 is the version a lot of simmers use to avoid dealing with EA because they went from EA download manager to Origin and now to the EA app. You do need to own every expansion and stuff pack on disk, and you need a copy of The Sims 3 disk from before September 2012.

@Karritz
Both The Sims 3 with University and The Sims 3 Starter Pack wanted to install Origin and immediately jumped to the EA app and I couldn't go any further. I was able to find Version 1 of The Sims 3 on eBay and bought it and four expansion packs that I didn't have on CD.
When I received the older The Sims 3 CD, I test drove the install on my old laptop and it worked fine. Both of my laptops were upgraded to the EA app.
On the old laptop I:
Used Programs and Features to uninstall the EA app (the EA app had uninstalled Origin and it wasn't listed)
Also uninstalled The Sims 3 and all Expansions and Stuff packs
Installed all of the disks I currently own in the order you have listed
Ran the 1.67 Super Patch on the game only once after everything was installed
Added the NRaas mods I use and made sure to replace Error Trap with the 1.67 version
Added in my other mods one folder at a time (BrntWaffles, CMAR, Mod the Sims, and Simlogical)
The game loaded fine until I installed the CMAR folder - I removed the folder and added the subfolders one at a time
It turned out the be a problem with CMAR XCAS Skin - I found a 1.67 version of the core mod and replaced it
The game runs fine with all of the mods installed (I saved it to my network drive so I could copy it to my new laptop)
On the new laptop:
I had to share the CD/DVD drive on my desktop computer so that I could access it from the laptop - it doesn't have a CDROM
I am about to do the install on my new laptop, so I will follow the steps I took above
I am uninstalling the EA app, the game, all of the expansions, and all of the stuff packs right now
I don't anticipate any issues, but if something comes up that didn't happen on the old laptop, I may return here for advice.
@Damienf519
I still need to locate the 1.67 version of CAW and uninstall the 1.69 version to install CAW 1.67.
@ts1depot
I am going to miss having the feature to select which expansions and packs I want to use. With my new laptop, I am able to have everything installed and the game runs fine with all settings on maximum. I don't have any issues with lag.
When I obtain and install Island Paradise, I will have to find the "fixed" version of the world. With pets installed, I usually limit the number of wild horses and stray cats and dogs using an NRass mod (I don't recall which one at this time).

Does the official download link not work for you? I don’t remember reading anything you wrote about it. I had trouble getting it to work, but in the end I was I able to make it work. If it doesn’t work for you, sorry, that’s the only one that I know of. My brother had to download it via his MAC, because the download link wouldn’t on my PC, but worked on his MAC for some reason
https://www.thesims3.com/game/tools/world
When I click the download for 1.67, I get a white window with nothing on it except an x in the corner to close it. And yes, I checked the box first.

Well, I installed the base game using a network drive and it wants the disk. The network drive is shared as drive Z: so I don't know why the game can't figure out how to go where the install files came from.
I can't load the game with the launcher or the ts3.exe file. I have installed the mods from the old machine (which worked fine), including the NRaas NoCD mod, but it's not seeing them on startup on the new laptop. I have only the base game installed. I am thinking the mods won't load until I have successfully loaded the game for the first time.
If there is no workaround, I am putting this on hold until Thursday.
Never mind, after I patched to 1.67, I was able to use the ts3.exe to launch the game. The launcher still requested a disk.
So now I have a ts3.exe and a ts3w.exe file. Which one do I want to use?

That’s what happened to me when I tried to download it on my PC. If know anyone who has a MAC, maybe they could download it for you and then send it to you. It worked on my brother’s Macintosh laptop, so maybe that would work for you if nothing else, or maybe I could send it to you
I don't know much about mods. The NRAAS core mods just needed the version number to be changed in them to make them work. Other core mods from other people are things I have no experience with.
The patch to go above 1.67 only affects the link to Origin it didn't do anything to alter the game itself.
This is the version of the fixed Island Paradise world that I use.
