Grim can do some pretty amusing things, depending on what traits he's assigned. It's a fun thing that he actually has a personality of sorts, if sims go to the trouble of getting to know him a bit.
In regular play, aside from using mods or cheats to do things like add him to households, what sort of personality does Grim have in your game? What have you observed him doing during his bits of free time between reapings?
In my oldest set of saves, he's a Mean, Evil Elder and lives next door to one of my families in Willow Creek. (I believe this is due to a very old bug which occasionally caused him to move into a house.) When (rarely) visited, he is always sitting on the toilet upstairs, and never leaves it. I think of him as an unpleasant, irate codger with bowl problems.
By contrast, in the set of saves I more often play these days, he's a Young Adult Bro (single trait.) The pair of buddies living in the Admiral's Wreckage, who make their living fizzing tropical fruit in Sulani, are very good friends with him. Grim will pop by to watch sports and hang out for a bit if there's a reaping in the neighborhood. The fact that they occasionally Discuss Conquests with the Grim Reaper himself is pretty epic, in their minds. Grim will sometimes also kick back in their lounge chairs or try to catch a tan if it's nice out. He'll even try to drink fizzy coconut juice if Bro Gifted with it, but doesn't hold his juice very well, as he ends up creating black puddles on the floor.

Play with aging off and my sims are careful with other activities. My sims have yet to become acquaintances and I plan on leaving it like that
I play with aging off and try my best to avoid him but he has come for a few of my sims and then I exit without saving. For some I pleaded but without success and for some sims I just found their urns on the lot and somehow didn't see Grimmy.
In TS3 Grim liked to play videos games and do keg stands with Bonehilda. Oh and he was obsessed with the pets. Always a great time when he visited. Too bad I've lost most of those screenshots to Photobucket.

Mostly the same. Only that in one game he was fat and working in science lab as a scientist.
I have seen another picture from another player where Grim Reaper was working in hospital as a doctor. How ironic...
These stories are so surprising to me; I've never seen Grim do anything but reaping, and maybe chatting with someone after
Unless you go out of your way to befriend him, he does seem to be a pure game mechanism. Occasionally he will do funny things like sing on karaoke machines when he decides to stick around after a reaping. However, if you can manage to create some manner of relationship with him, he will become a bit more personable and his range of actions will broaden, depending on what circumstances he finds himself in. Making him a Key Holder by giving him a residence key helps quite a bit with this, if you want him hanging around.
Incidentally, he's also on Social Bunny.
Interesting. I wonder if I could get one of my female sims to court him, and possibly even marry him?
@SteveBridger The keyholder thing is a genius idea. I'm going to have to try that.
Grim, along with his wife Aislinn, is the progenitor of a very large family of Sims in my game. He's outgoing, loves cats, is a snob, likes to socialise and party, does most of the child rearing stuff, and day dreams of cup cakes and cats whilst reaping people.

I had one of my Sims marry the Grim Reaper & now they have a lot of kids.
I have no idea what his traits are but Grimmy in my main save is hilarious. Or maybe it just became like this because of the way I play the sim who mostly interacts with him, I dunno. Grim seems to basically be perma-flirty and also lacks situational awareness. He mostly interacts with Axel who as an insatiable thirst vampire tends to have a lot of feeding incidents (kudos to mods) so he sees Grimmy fairly regularly. The first time they met Axel actually wasn't responsible for that particular death but he was feeling confident at the time which allows a sim to "demand sim to be spared". He really wanted to boss around the Grim Reaper (and continues to take this particular option till this day regardless of who died and why) so that's exactly what he did (successfully). Then, since he and his wife have a mutual open-ish relationship which allows them to flirt around but nothing more, he decided to flirt with Grim for some cheap laughs. But then, since I was actually at the time testing the club system, the club rules kicked in and he decided to have nice out of nowhere fist fight with Grim (got his *** kicked btw). Ever since then they have had this weird love-hate relationship so they basically flirt and fight every time they see. Grim in particular doesn't even seem to care if they are currently despising each other. Whatever, still gotta try and kiss Axel who consistently rejects advances of this volume but then will autonomously flirt right back until switching gears to fight mode . Like... ok then.
Here's a random collection of some of their idiocy.
Grim: "What? Fighting and flirting are basically the same thing, don't you agree?"
I forgot I had a mod that allows this interaction. Grimmy immediately took advantage.
"Ohhhh, Mr Olsen. I totally slipped."
"... you know what, I'm so lost I'll just go with this."

Then they end up fighting and suddenly Axel has a whim to get engaged to Grim. Go home Axel, you're drunk.
Grimmy takes out his frustrations on an innocent doll house.
But he's a good lad and immediately fixes his own mess.
"Hey! I love you but I hate you but I love you!"
In my game Grimmy is goofy.
Alas, without mods it isn't possible to marry Grim, though what he says when asked if he's single is pretty hilarious. Though one can't have a baby with him, a sim can w**h** with him, and I believe there's even an achievement for that. Attempting to seduce Grim is also one of the more humorous options one can attempt when trying to get him to refrain from reaping a recently deceased sim. It has a very low chance of success even one is Flirty enough to attempt it, but it's hysterically funny when it works.
(Technically, we're not even supposed to know if Grim is male or female, but if one goes illicitly poking around in the character details he's consistently coded as being male.)
My Sims 2 Grim is another story, I used to kill off Sims for fun, or experiments. For example, if I had a Sim who wanted to see a ghost of a Sim, I used cheats to kill off the Sim they wanted to see the ghost of. Also, I used cheats to kill off a Sim that lived in the dorms to move in one of my Sims. Sims 2 Grim has a notebook, and would do his job, but since I would kill more than one Sim on the same lot, he would grunt in annoyance. Then sound more irritated. If you killed all the Sims, a pop up would tell you that Sims is a life simulator. Also, Grim would eat or use the toilet while that pop up came up.
Haven't played Sims 3 much, since my computer has a hard time playing it long, so Grim hasn't arrived at all in that one.
I had heard about Malcom Landgraabs future wife and kids and added them to the world, only to see a bunch of interesting families.
And they all turned out to be connected from like the Sims 2 and Sims 3 I think. I had to use the Fandom site for help, because I haven't played too much Sims 2. (And when I started, with Sims 3, it didn't work on my pc; so I ended up one of the first Sims 4 players.) So I don't know a lot of the Sims Lore.
Well I downloaded The Beakers, and Specters. And ended up trying to reconcile mother and son. Adding sentiments (bc I finally figured out how to cheat those) and then I worked on calling Grimm. Things had to get a bit π© for it to happen but I successfully pled for that Sim. And Olive was reunited with her former lover. Who is now a Bro, Snob, and something else. (I didn't realize he was a single trait sim, but my more traits mod probably is the reason he has two more.)
From what I've seen, he gets generated with 0-3 random traits, and is always a young adult, adult or elder. I imagine there're some traits he's coded not to have, though it'd be interesting to find out what others have seen in that regard. I've seen Grim as a Mean, Evil elder, a young adult Bro, and Childish Goofball adult. (I have a few sims who can claim they've been subjected to a hand buzzer by the Grim Reaper, and lived to tell about it.)
The first time I ever saw him was in 2015 after the boyfriend of my Second Artist in the Time Lord Challenge, died of overexertion as an elder.
He walked out of the bedroom where the boyfriend had died and I thought he'd left. But I found him soon after admiring the fish in her aquarium.
Second Artist transformed from the trauma of her loss and became Third Artist who had Grim walk up to go fishing with her while she was on vacation in Granite Falls.
Back home, she saw him again in a lounge having a good time drinking and dancing. Don't look behind you Zoe, I think your number may be up dear. o.O I suppose he could be there for Travis instead.
I didn't see Grim again until 2018 when the residents of my Homeless Elder challenge Sim's retirement home began to die from old age. See the elder on the right playing video games? Grim had just brought him back to life as requested. Patchy didn't like Grim, at all. I thought the two would come to blows, but nope.
Fast forward to April 2020. My Gen 4 Drifter's Father had just been reaped from his basement bedroom. Grim thought it would be a good idea to follow her to the ground floor, tell a very inappropriate joke and flirt with her while her teen daughter and alien co-worker stood by.
She left to take care of her twin half-brother and sister alien newborns (her Dad had been abducted) and he followed her to see them. I wonder if he was sad about taking their Father and leaving them to grow up never knowing him.
If he did, it didn't last long. He went inside to play BlicBlock on their gaming mat.
And then watch the disguised alien play a video game. Carina looks freaked out sitting next to him. I don't blame her. I don't understand why Grim likes to hang around like that after he reaps a soul. To make sure the family will be okay? o.O Or maybe he's just lonely.
I thought he was finally going to leave when he went outside, but no, he'd decided to shovel their sidewalk first. I guess that was a nice gesture.
I didn't see Grim again until after I'd updated him. Interesting all the things the original Grim could do, I loved finding out everything he's been up to in all your saves.
He is keeping up with his ts2 persona really
in which he loves the beach and is fun to hang out with but sometimes gets rather too busy for a chat
I also love his new genetics look even if it did make my Nervous Subject look rather drastically different from ts2 Nervous Subject π

I've only seen Grim once since I started playing TS4 in 2017. I play with aging off and will do anything to keep my little pixels alive. When NS was added, I had a few premade (unplayed and off screen) deaths, but managed to bring them back and add them to their families again.
