When I was about 10 I used to climb a tall one (it had boards nailed to the trunk to assist) and hide out in a small perch of boards nailed there in the canopy about 12 feet up, much like a hunter's lookout. It was a little scary when the wind blew and the whole thing swayed but it was also awesome feeling like I was in a world all my own, king of all I surveyed.
Later on there was another tree I could climb without help by grabbing a lower branch and swinging my leg up, then the rest of me, in a different place when I was a teen. Sometimes I would hang upside down by my knees because the world looked so different then.
I feel sorry for anyone who grew up without ever climbing trees.
No. Muscular men in spandex are great and all, but superheroes often leave me cold because the storylines are so formulaic. I have the same problem with anime: most are so tropish they lampoon themselves. Honestly I envy people who are into popular fandoms because then they get all sorts of events and merch. I really wish I did like the things everyone else likes, it would be such an easy way to socialize.
It wasn't big in terms of people. I forget now but it was maybe 10 or 12 max. That seemed plenty big to me and luckily it was at someone else's place who had a huge basement.
I don't even know 10 to 12 people well enough now to invite to a party if I ever felt that ambitious again.
