The Unlucky Thing About Being a Celebrity

I made a discovery today. While at the Starlight Accolades my Sim kept leaving the room to admire his fine self in a mirror in the lavatory. Face/palm. When I investigated as to why this was suddenly occurring, I quickly realized that I was having him practice a speech before he left for the Event. Apparently, if a celebrity looks at themselves for one too many times (and who knows that magic number, eh?) they run the distinct possibility of gaining the Vain Quirk. :open_mouth:

Please share any unlucky things you've discovered while playing a Sim who is a celebrity. :)

@GalacticGal thankfully there's the Quirk-B-Gone potion to remove those pesky quirks, so you can easily get Erik back to normal πŸ™‚.

.. and when you've followed that advice, always use the lecture podium to practice speeches. Not in game right now, but do a search for Podus, you'll find it. Vain is honestly one of the most annoying quirks.

mostly just the paparazzi and fans and accolades sims etc because I'm trying to avoid game making new randomized townies and taking your famous sim anywhere spawns them like mad

also it just interrupts like everything your sims may want to do out of their house

One of my minor celebrities got the vain trait but I found it funny rather than annoying since she had the self-absorbed trait anyway, it made me just fill her house with mirrors. My other celebrity was into media production and doing beauty tutorials and product reviews, she picked up the refined palate quirk which was fine because she had level 10 in cooking and a roommate who kept bringing home gourmet dishes for some reason. I actually like the quirks because it makes my sims feel more unique and Get Famous is strangely one of my favourite expansions.

The worst quirk for me is emotion bomb. I don't mind it at all for sims like Judith Ward that aren't among my played households. Bombs away! I guess its the combination of being a recovering micromanager and wanting my sims to lead happy, relatively stress free lives that makes me dislike it. It has the power to really bring the friendship and romance bars down quickly if the bomb happens to be an angry one. Sad bombs can be disruptive for couples in my game. For some reason, probably a feature of a mod I didn't know about, both sims will get sad moodlets. The sim who doesn't have the emotion bomb moodlet will get a sad one out of sympathy for a sim they care about feeling bad. That sympathetic sad moodlet can be so strong it prevents them doing anything for a while.

I love refined palate. It is so easy to manage because every household in my game has at least one highly skilled cook. I want my sims to enjoy the gift of tasty meals. It's a focus of mine to get someone in the household good at cooking quickly. Vain and paparazzi darling are ones that I go either way on. They can be annoying under the right circumstances, but mostly I find them fun. I can't think of the name of the quirk, but it's the one where fans send gifts. I love that one too. It's so easy to work with and some of things they send can be hilarious at times.

Yes, I love using the points this way! And he just got rid of the sudden vain trait he acquired. Far be it from him to ever practice speech. :open_mouth: Like none of the other celebrities don't. This is one Quirk that is simply out-of-control. I can't even tell you how very many times he went all the way downstairs, just to check out 'his fine self'. Oi.

I don't mind some of the Quirks. Vain is so unlike who my Sim is, for one and the Emotion Bomb is just as destructive. Bad news, in my book. ;)

@GalacticGal if you want/need Erik, or any sim, to practice speech would it be better to get a podium? That way you don't run the risk of him getting the vain quirk.

I have the dont touch me quirk.

My one star fame sim Lorraine loves her long term neighbour Sofia and every time she sees her she gives her a big hug. And then she freaks out about Sofia having touched her πŸ˜‚

To me, Emotion Bomb is hilarious, and it sometimes saves their life because they can't die from being enraged; if a celebrity I have does get enraged, I usually just let them be and stew in their rage before they quickly get over it. Plus, when some stranger dies, they get a very powerful sad moodlet but emotion bomb causes it to go away much more quickly like it should and is something I can appreciate.

Also, I know how to deal with paparazzi and I love them visiting my house. I just pose them as dead corpses with the pose player mod (or having them repeatedly do death animations) and carry with my day.

I tend to use MCCC and 'make them leave'. Thanks for the tips on the quickly vanishing death of a friend problem.

It's not working correctly then. The do not touch should only apply to strangers.

That is a fanatastic idea. I never even thought of that. Thank you. He's maxed out his charm, but I just thought he should practice his acceptance speech for the fun of it, you know? Turned out to be less than fun. :open_mouth:

Oh interesting. She got the little no smoking sign with Sofia’s face in the middle of it as soon as they hugged after the trait. Maybe she was just mad at her for something else 😁. They are at least good friends, not strangers.

@JustinB113 Celebrity sims with No Touching quirk can still be tense even with good friends, unless that friend is also a romantic partner or family AND also has the same or higher fame level. If they are just a friend with no fame, the quirk will still kick in.

Interesting I did not know that. Thanks for the hint!

Not a quirk, but I had a global superstar who was also rags to riches, and it was odd how after a while, being adored mindlessly by Sims who don't really know him, and also surrounded by people who just want to ne seen with him, will offer him jobs because he's famous, be friends or lovers because of his fame, it all started to pall. He could have anything he wanted, except true intimacy or true friends. Because there was no one who was close before he made it big, so no one left to just be real with.

He took several lovers, but nothing ever felt like a commitment. He had so much, but was just getting older and more alone on the inside while being mobbed with superficial adoration everywhere he went.

    It was kind of depressing.

Then an elderly Bella Goth, long since widowed, set her cap for him. They were genuinely compatible so I figured why not, even if it is a May/December marriage, life is too short to pass up good things just because they are unconventional.

I have done my very best to keep my Teen Global Superstar well-grounded. He attends church weekly and is steadfast and guided by his Faith and his parents. His older brother, Aaron, also does what he can to keep Erik's hat-size where it started. LOL In Sims3 Erik went through women like there was no tomorrow, but he didn't sleep around. He merely fell in love too quickly before really getting to know the girl. Got engaged too quickly, too, as a result, but always managed to call things off before they waltzed down the aisle. His last 'close call' he managed to make it his fault, to spare her the humiliation as best he could. Even when he finally said vows with Torrie Windsor, she still wasn't the One. She got preggars right away and apparently felt tied down and her own ambitions squelched. She tried her best (autonomously) to remove the baby from her life, leaving the newborn out on the front lawn of their home at night, in the pouring rain. This happened twice. Both times autonomously. No, she wasn't insane, and neither was it a routing issue. Something snapped inside this Sim.

Celebrity isn't the easiest of lives to live. There is a certain isolation about it. But from pain comes pure Art and Beauty of a magnitude the rest of us care rarely know or see.

I'm so glad your Sim found somebody to be his companion, no matter what her age. Love knows no bounds. I wish them all happiness and health.
