Could someone please remind me how to add CC to my Sims 3 game?

I've decided to revisit my Sims 3 game, as lately I've been missing so many things about and from it!
So I redownloaded the game, all the EPs I have for it, and then all my store content as well. Now I'm working on downloading my favorites from the Sims 3 Exchange, as too. After that, I want to work on readding my favorite CC (Especially some worlds and lots) that I used to have for it, also!
But while the Store content and the Exchange content are easy enough, I cant for the life of me remember how to add Custom Content to the game? Do I need to create a Mods folder? Do CC worlds and lots go into a separate folder or something? I honestly can't even remember?
Could some kind soul please take my hand and walk me through this as far as explaining? I would SO appreciate it and thank you in advance!
