Considering that they didn't manage another Gameplay kit after Bust the Dust, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.

I don't know if it's how buggy the kit was, or if they just never had people free to work on another gameplay kit, but the most I hope from this (if true) is that Stuff Packs might return.

I think Busted Dust would’ve worked better if buying the hoover triggered the dust.

I never got it as I didn’t want to hoover every single house! Also including brooms 🧹 for off the grid!

I wonder if gameplay is going to the game packs? Since kits released there’s been DHD where you can interact with customers, MWS is arranging marriage and now Werewolves 🐺.
Now alternating between Sims 2,3 and 4! 😊☕️🌞

That's my hope as well. Stuff packs have to be thing again!

I'd love to see a singing career in game, EA! You can't let the singing skill go to waste! My TS4 EPs: GTW, GT, CL, C&D, S, GF, IL, DU, EL, SE, CoL, HSY, GrT, HR, FR GPs: OR, SD, DO, V, P, JA, SV, RoM, DHD, MWS

This video beyond confused me because I didn't realize we even had those sub categories. Assuming they are true, though, it is a real shame. Nothing is completely dead until it is too late, but that means gameplay kits were just a gimmick to get bite sized BB and CAS payments normalized.

Yeah I noticed that some days ago as I was once again studying Little Campers. I'm not sure what to think about it, because I really want more gameplay and I'd buy gameplay items in kits. If they had put the tea sets (with a bit more animations and stuff), or slow dancing (with something else), or even drawing in the sand/snow (with something else) into a kit I'd have bought it. Maybe it is better for me to buy those things in one GP though, and get bunch of other stuff (and buggy micromanagement weddings) as well. So, I don't know. It might be better, but I'm also disappointed for all the missed opportunities.

It does feel like they are reducing the work required for their engineers, I wonder if it's because those people are busy working with other games like Lost Astral and The Sims 5?

I would be nice to know because them focusing more on art makes me think that they want to reduce development for their old engine and have the engineers focus on larger packs, base game updates and future development with unreal engine 5.

I dunno, this is what we as players are seeing and inside Maxis it might look completely different...

Bust The Dust was like paying for an update. Even if you buy it, it's optional. Why shouldn't everybody have Dust Options?

It was also very buggy. Perhaps they realised that having lots of optional gameplay would be asking for bug trouble. I'm more irritated that they started at all.

Perhaps the massive glut of Kit Packs was to fill the gap while they made the new Life-State. Werewolves are a lot of programming.

    Interesting

I suppose backlash was kinda strong tho so i am not surprised

and they seem to find it easier to make items than add gameplay anyway

but it wouldn't have hurt to try twice before deciding to send the whole idea to burgatory

I do wonder though if its more of them just realizing that gameplay kits are still ultimately related to b/b or cas though

like say they did trait kit or something that'd still be cas or if they did say pottery kit that'd still be b/b tho

like idk if gameplay kit is in the end ever just about gameplay

then again this does put bust the dust in awkward spot as it did add aspiration therefore its also cas not just b/b

Either it was because of backlash OR they’re reallocating the resources and staff for other non-kit packs or to work on other EA games.

Bust The Dust was too much of work compared to the other kits.

There are still things they didn't do, dusting isn't fully a part of cleaning tasks.
  • MareahMareah Posts: 792 Member
I guess the dust kit could be considered a building kit though, so this just might mean they are going to add items that offer gameplay to the building kits instead.
  • DaWaterRatDaWaterRat Posts: 3,353 Member
To a certain extent, Bust the Dust was a Micro Stuff pack.

You had gameplay - the dust system and cleaning, CAS - two new aspirations, and B/B - the five vacuum cleaners (and the debug from the dust system)

I had zero interest in it, but if they canceled gameplay kits because Bust the Dust tanked, I'm going to be a little sad, because I was hoping that all the other chores that I find boring and would rather not have in my game would also be added as kits, so I could ignore them easily. Now there's a good chance they'll be in Stuff/Game/Expansion packs (if at all) and that's going to have to factor into whether the CAS/BB is worth the price to me without the Gameplay (provided there's a toggle, which they're adding more often.)

Kit Packs are EA's way of getting sponsored content. Multiple Kit Packs have been inspired by real life fashion. The kits, like the real life fashion that charges you $400 for a sweater with holes in, are a ripoff.

But that's no reason to quit making Stuff Packs.

This is really disappointing. I hope we get Stuffpacks again with new gameplay objects. :/

I like the fact that TS4 has "Seasons, City Living, Get to Work, University, and Cats and Dogs" to round out a simmers gameplay. But not to knock any new or old expansion pack or kit, isn't it time that we stop voluntarily going down the rabbit hole and never coming out if we keep telling EA that as long as they put out these new packs and kits that we will buy them in droves? And as a result, the powers that be at EA will never have to put out TS5 since TS4's packs, kits and monthly patches keep making the TS4 game anew. To EA, TS4 is like a car. Every year the car manufactuer adds a button here, a button there and the public still buys the same car over and over until they finally get it. And to tell the truth, if I was EA (business' are people too), I wouldn't put out TS5 either as long as the public kept buying my 2017 version of The Sims in 2022 with just a tweak here and a tweak there. Nope! I'd be like EA too, laughing all the way to the bank. Look back at TS1. It was the start of something big in the gaming community and we knew it. Playing as a person living a fantasy life. Wow!!! Then came TS2. It buried TS1 in the dirt. TS3 came with needs I believe, making TS2 obsolete for many. Then came TS4 with emotions as it's calling card, as well as the needs from TS3. So we left TS3 for TS4 in droves. For those who still play TS3, consider this. EA doesn't make expansion packs for it. Although they could have kept the cars and the fact that if a premade or game generated sim had a job, they ACTUALLTY were not at home when they should have been at work. Nothing wrong with EA squeezing every penny out of TS4 before they have to release TS5. They already have it on the shelf ready to go. When are we going to tell them to take it off the shelf and release it to the public is anyone's guess. My best guess would be say 2027 at the least.

Needs have been around since TS1. They always chose between thier top four needs but the gameplay was they weren’t smart about how they went about it. Hunger in the red, hygiene just about to go into red… I’ll have a bath! 🤦🏼‍♂️

I didn’t see TS2 burying TS1, it was the sequel. TS2 brought days of the week in, Sims actually had work rosters. In TS1 you’d skip a day of work every so often to socialise and catch up on needs. If my new computers could play TS1 I would still fire it up now and again.
I don’t see the next version as a replacement but the next generation.

My favourite is TS3, I love the open world. Trouble is it’s laggy and takes forever to load! 😴

When TS4 came along I decided to buy different packs rather than the same ones which is why I haven’t bought Seasons or University. Kits to me are a version of the TS3 store. The main issue is a lot of the items could’ve been included in a previous pack.

There was a lot of issues with Busted Dust so I do understand why no more were made. It’s a pity, I would like more gameplay kits.

I wouldn’t want cars in every TS4 world. Sulani for example would be odd unless they update the worlds with roads? 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’m not a fan of the emotion system and would rather have TS3’s system.

TS5 will come but the online component must be clear and there needs to be options etc.

What I don’t understand is how earlier games have animations that aren’t carried forward. TS2 cars, you saw your Sim get in, back out and drive off. Yet TS3 they stand on the kerb, raise their arm like hailing a taxi and the car vanishes from the driveway appears in the road and then they teleport into it and drive off. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t like in TS4 how they teleport to work. In TS2 you could watch them walk to the end of the lot and vanish.

I would like them to be able to update one of the current games into the next generation particularly TS3. All that store stuff I bought 😱! 😂

If there not going to be any more kits for game play that will be a real shame because there's so much they could have done with them.

I did wonder why there weren't more gameplay kits--I do think the campers one was in a way gameplay but using assets/animations they mostly had before. I'm hoping they'll turn the gameplay ideas back into stuff packs--those seem more fitting and the $ tag gives them more budget/freedom.

The problem with Bust the Dust wasn't even kit specific, but their general tendency of going overboard. Most recent example: Fated Mates, a mystical and rare connection between two werewolves triggers with a chance of 50% PER INTERACTION. And the meteors seem to be considered the new telescope's main attraction... nobody wants a boring telescope, let's give them a funny new death to make it worth their while!
If the devs learend to balance their features better, there wouldn't be the need for backlash.

I'm still looking forward for more stealth gameplay kits like Little Campers. That activity table and bedsheet TV definitely feel like new objects, despite being reskins.

Yup. This is literally the reason I have not bought that kit. I wanted it to work like laundry, where you only get the laundry piling up if you place a laundry item like a hamper or washing machine on the lot. I would have been interested in vacuuming as well, if I could pick and choose which households get dust in this same way. But with an "all or nothing" dust system... I chose "nothing", and did not buy it.
