I really need to get started playing this. Zoo Tycoon was huge in my childhood but I just haven't had the burst of motivation needed to start learning PZoo. You've been really dedicated in sharing the new DLC packs as they release, though!
It's been a minute since I played. Several packs have released since then and I think I've been putting it off because it seemed overwhelming to play catchup. There have been 10 new packs since the game first released in November 2019. My plan is to start over with the base game and then add the packs one at a time. Hopefully later this summer.
Arctic Pack
South America Pack
Australia Pack
Aquatic Pack
Southeast Asia Pack
Africa Pack
North America Pack
Europe Pack
Wetlands Pack
Conservation Pack

As someone with all the packs (besides the unreleased one of course), I personally don't find them as... Mechanically overwhelming as say a backlog of Sims packs. It feels like just a little more of what we already have with new species, new scenery, new enrichment, etc.
Even the updates that added new gameplay haven't completely changed the game beyond diving, in my opinion. I quite like dens and roaming educators, as well as all the QoL stuff, but PZ feels very similar to its early form to me and I played the beta.

Well I'm a little more optimistic now. Hopefully it won't take me long to get up to speed.
I saw the update news! I am really looking forward to the new education items. Pretty well every zoo or aquarium I have been to that has been worth their salt has had them. Plus new behaviors are always welcome.
I got this game from humble choice last month. I really wanted to play it, but haven’t made it past the tutorial. My laptop sounds like a plane taking off when I try to play this game, so I’m worried about it overheating or breaking. I turned all the graphic options low, but it doesn’t help. I don’t know why my laptop hates this game. It’s a gaming laptop and it normally doesn’t have problems like this.
I don't want to hit it with the poorly optimized label, @SeashoreLivia, but there are a number of moving parts which will happily eat whatever your GPU and CPU will give it.
One of the things mentioned in the new update is random sniff points generated in the exhibits. That is just one example of all the stuff we cannot see that is constantly active. NPC pathing can be horrific. All the guests have thoughts, needs, and behaviours. Every bit of scenery is more rendering. All the animals gave pathing, needs, behaviors, etc. I can understand why laptops in particular will chug (having a gaming laptop myself).
Does anyone find the game creatively overwhelming or is it just me? Like I don't know where to start because there is so much customisation and to make something look good you have to spend a lot of time on it. I was the same with Planet Coaster too. I'd love to really get into it but I don't have the motivation and end up just watching the animals which is fun enough
