I think the issue people have is that they get the game for free to promote it and talk about. That is their job and technically they are refusing to do their job (if it was any other job, you can be fired for refusing to do so). People wouldn't care so much if they had to pay for the game themselves like everyone else.
I say if people really want to do be political, do it on their own time. That goes for all jobs and businesses as there is a time and place for everything.
@XxAirixX Again it's not really a job. It's more of a sponsorship and like I said we don't know if they really have to do it. Maybe some Game Changers refused to gain early access all together. We can't be blaming people for what we don't know for sure.
Also if someone has the right to complain it is EA. Since we are not providing them with any money and are not their customers or their employers I don't think we have a right to be telling them what to do.
My stance on this topic. It has nothing to do with me so I can stay out of their decision.
They are literally getting paid (in this case, with free items) to promote and talk about. EA isn't just going to give games away for free as they are a business. game changers are supposed to talk about the games. Same with Sponsorships. You are sponsored to help support that company. They are basically advertisers. It isn't fair that they get free stuff while refusing to promote it afterwards.
When you agree to their terms, you are agreeing to show off and promote their products to others. So yes, I think we do have the right as we are consumers, we are the ones that are paying.
@XxAirixX Again, do you know the contract? Do you know the terms? In many occasions free items are sent to influencers without them having to acutally promote them. Sending free items doesn't obligate you to anything. The contract and terms are what matter and we haven't read them.
You don't even know if the GameChangers refused the early access. We don't know the behind the scenes.
And no we don't have a right. Are you paying the Game Changers for content? No you are not. You are paying only for the products you purchase by EA, an entire different entity. You are neither a customer or an employer of those Youtubers.
I don't need the GC to Influence me to buy anything! If I want it I'll buy it without watching someone else opinions.
Maybe I'm just old school to where I like to discover things on my own. Life will go on with or without GC.
On the broader topic, I really, really hope that Simmers don't attack GC's who do choose to show pack content after the embargo ends or to promote the pack later that that or to make content for it. Not everyone sees pack avoidance as the way to go if EA is at fault here. And not everyone sees EA as necessarily at fault. (Personally, my assumption is that there are things going on behind the scenes on the Russian side -- I don't exactly trust Russian authorities -- that weren't going on previously and that there are valid reasons Maxis can't say so.) I worry that the atmosphere on Sims social media will lead to harassment of people who don't follow the big GC's who have said they won't post content I'm personally, as a GC, leaning toward not posting content when the embargo lifts because I worry about that including me.

Hi. As a Game Changer, I want to assure you that we are under no obligation to talk about or promote the game. The relationship between Game Changers and the company is not that narrow.
We have the right to not listen or support anyone than since we are the ones who are ones actually paying and now having to go into the game blindly (having to buy and report all the bugs, etc..if the game doesn't work, we are the ones that lose out. Still have problems with major bugs. Snow Escape still crashes. I am not the one getting money back, that is now gone). What's the point of getting free stuff if not to promote or talk about? That seems like an unfair popularity contest at this point. How is this helping consumers?
Well, what the GC's do is their own affair. It would have been nice to get a glimpse of some unseen stuff early, but we never used to get anything like that back in the 'olden days' and we survived then, so I'm sure we can survive now

Only Maxis knows why they run the GC program the way they do. But presumably the program is of value to them even if we GCs are sometimes silent or if we're openly critical of both the the company and their products given that they allow both.

@XxAirixX The fact that the Game Changers are kind enough to tell us about bugs and the content of the packs is a luxury not an obligation. They do it on their own free will.
The fact that you don't get your money back if the game is buggy is EA's fault as they provide 0 refunds on their products. Again not the Game Changers job.
Also as long as you, yourself are not paying money for the Game Changers services directly to them, then you are not their customer or employer. You are EA's customer. Different story.
You have every right not to support them but not to bash them, accuse them of blackmailing, tell them what content they are allowed to post or advocate for them to get kicked off.
Not saying you did that, but other people in this thread did.

@elanorbreton As an older player of the Sims I do remember the times when we bought packs at the store knowing not even half of what the pack was about except for what was on the disc cover. Kind of like a throwback to do it again now. hehe

I am not going to argue; I strongly disagree and stand by what I say as a paying consumer.
I guess no one will be doing early access Tomorrow. Maybe the gurus will answer some questions then.
If they want to prevent anymore problems and division in this community, it would be in EA's to just address the situation and talk about. People are supposed to be excited about new packs and now it's getting hard to be.
Sims Community, Pixelade and Plumbella have all come out saying they aren't going to do the new pack content, which I support their decision 100%. I am going to go in a different direction with my content to support #weddingsforrussia, but I still respect the heck out of them

For clarity, Game Changers are not under any obligation to create specific content for EA. You can read more about what they are and what they do on the EA.com site here.
I fully understand that this topic is fairly hot button within the community and I want this thread to remain open. I also understand that not everyone here is going to agree on everything and that's fine, you're free to disagree with one another, but do so while abiding by the forum rules.
I would also like to point out that "backseat moderating" will not be tolerated here, please don't attempt to tell anyone what they can and can't post on our forums. If you see something you don't think belongs, flag it to a moderator via the report function.
If we keep attacking others in this thread, I'll have to remove it. I do not want to do this, but I'm not going to stand back and watch people get bullied off the forums simply for having an opinion on this topic someone else doesn't agree with.
In short:
Don't attack the Game Changers.
Don't attack people who are notbuying this pack.

Yes, that's my point. We pay, they get things for free for what? Seems kind of unfair.
I think the Mod just answered everyone's question. It is not the Game Changer's job to create specific content for EA products. Guess that clears up for anyone who still feels Game Changer's owes them any content.
Yes, that's my point. We pay, they get things for free for what? Seems kind of unfair.
You probably feel this way because in a way, basically, we are paying them. It is our purchase dollars that allow EA to subsidize them by giving them free packs. It's indirect, but the connection is still there. They would not get those packs for free if there were no customers paying money for them.
Capitalism is so convoluted sometimes.
They also would not be GCs in the first place if the paying customers didn't pay any attention to anything they did...so again, paying customers are linked to their role.

You are paying for the product you receive though. What EA does with your money is their own business. It's like paying your nanny that takes care of your kid and telling her to spend her salary on baby stuff because you are the one paying her.
It's EAs budget, they are free to spend it on whatever they want. We are not Game Changer's customers we are EA's customers.
I personally don’t think that anyone should be getting early access if they aren’t going to share it. While I get where they are coming from, they’re also punishing people who don’t agree with EA & who actually have to pay to play.
