Yeah!! Right!! When is your time yours?? From the moment we simmers get out of our sim beds we are doing some activity to further our careers or enrich our lives. Case in point! We get up, relieve the bladder, shower, eat breakfast and brush our teeth and get in the right mood if we have jobs. Say for instance the "focus" mood if we are Tech Guru's. So we ponder the chess move or browse simpedia. Then we go to work for 6-8 hours. When we get home we complete some daily job related task and work on improving a skill or two to advance in that job that takes at least 2 hours to complete. Then we eat dinner and socialize for a hour or so to keep that meter full, then we go to bed to start the whole process over again the next sim day. If we have a off day, that day is probably filled with gaining a higher skill level for that next "promotion". I mean we all want to be at the top of our chosen career right? So in the hoopla of a sim day or week I ask "When is your time yours?" Hmmm!!!

You have vacation days so use them. If you have packs, visit new locations; go skiing in the mountains, go boating around the islands, save the galaxy from far, far away, go camping, go explore ancient ruins. You have options, my friend! There is much to do.
I try to send my family of six on weekend getaways every weekend. If they're supposed to work, I use a vacation day. You can also save up your vacation days and spend week/s away from work. Options. 😉
I actually use mods that reduce the amount of vacation time accrued and which increase the decay rate of half of the needs because, for me, it feels like way too much free time playing it with the Maxis tuning values. Maxis' perception of how much free time a Sim has gives some insight into why they seem to not have had time yet to fix bugs that are years old though...

I also play my Sims on long lifespans so that gives me ample time to enjoy their little lives and bring chaos to them. 😈
I believe, based on the post, the the reference is the sims not the simmers.
I never work a "job". I tend to garden or do the Freelance Botanist aspiration and that's a 7 day a week aspiration. The plants bloom everyday to be sold for simoleons. However, after selling the days harvest, and tending the garden, there is time to do otrher things un-job related. The post was basically for those of us with "jobs".
Sims. Like when do sims have free time for themselves after a days work?
Hmmm!!!
You touched upon my next question. And that is "How long do you allow your sims to live? Short, normal, or long lives?" Hmmm!!!
The thread is about whether a sim with a job (business, tech guru, etc...) will have time during a regular day for anything other than fulfilling basic needs and job related activities.
stop pondering chess moves and browsing simpedia if that ain't fun
stop doing daily job tasks at home if you're not feeling like doing that
get day or two off whenever you please they give vacation days quite easily
skill up on whatever you want but it would surely be easier if you pick career that benefits off your hobbies/liked activities
make friends, family, lovers while at it and have a whole social drama going on
life doesn't have to be about work the paycheck will arrive even if you only go to work at right times
sure you could aim for promotion and sure thats also pretty easy but remember to just chill out sometimes not everyday has to be a promotion day

Of course I have Sims who do freelance work or just work for themselves, they have time for other things as well. Also the ones who work on active careers (Get to Work careers) have more time because they can fullfill their needs at work and they don't have any work related tasks to do at home. Their needs are usually all green and they're ready to go out or whatever they want to do after work.
Aren't we all workaholic's? Lmao
Cool. Nothing like going out dancing at the club after work and not having to fill out reports eh?
So you don't do the "daily task" that jobs require after work to advance in your field?
Exactly. I play rotational in the same save since 7 years and hardly ever have a Sim without the responsible trait from Parenthood. That trait auto fulfills daily tasks.
On top of that, I don't like my Sims being rich so I hardly ever work on promotions.
OMG...I never paid attention to what the responsible trait does. All this time I've thought it was some kind of game glitch that caused some of my Sims to somehow always get credit for those daily career tasks.
I don't like it to feel like a 'grind' when I play toddlers/childrens/teens so I don't always get all of the character value traits...just the ones that come naturally having them do what they wanna do.

One reason might be that I disabled the Parenthood pop ups because I found them so annoying.
Bobby; S M T W T F S
Kiyoshi; S M T W T F S
So they both have weekends off now which makes the weekends easier for R&R. This wasn't always the case though.
Mondays and Fridays they both are supposed to work but Mondays, Bobby stays home with Haleigh, the toddler, and Fridays are Kiyoshi's days to miss work. With all of the vacation days, this makes it easy in this case.
This is just an example of how you could do things. Of course Marina (teen), Stetson and Rylan (children) are all in school M - F so that helps as well. There are always ways to balance work and play. As I stated earlier, this family goes on vacation almost every weekend so Kiyoshi can work on his adrenaline addiction (Extreme Sports Enthusiast aspiration).
It's actually because of him that I had to take this approach with the family schedule.
I find that using the "Socialise with Co-workers" or other social options don't reduce performance unless the social bar is full. Same with "Take it easy" and the fun (plus some social) motives.
Sims will often eat lunch and use the bathroom if you have low hunger/bladder and you switch to "Take it easy".
When all your needs are full, switch to "Work Hard" to gain maximum performance for the day, or one of the other options for skill gains or moodlets to save time after work.
Once you leave work you may have a daily task and might need a shower, but you won't need to socialise, gain fun or work on skills as often so have more time to do whatever you want.
