Installing mods

So if I want to install mods how do I go about doing that? I’ve always been hesitant because I know the can kind of mess up game play sometimes and the game in general but I just watched a YouTube play the sims and I’m pretty sure she had mods installed because so much fun drama happened in her game and like more real life stuff.

Modders post on their own sites or host sites like Mod The Sims. Find the mod you’re interested in. Make sure it’s been updated. Download from the site. You may have to unzip the file before installation. To install, assuming you’re on PC, go to Documents>Electronic Arts>Sims 4>Mods and place the file in that folder. Start the game and make sure mods and cc are enabled in game settings. If not, enable and restart. That’s it. Be aware that mods can conflict with each other so you will have to check for that at times. They can also break when game updates are done, and will have to be updated by the modder and redownloaded. Because I don’t want to spend too much time maintaining them, I only play with mods and cc I absolutely have to have in my game.

To add to what @cyncie said, also always delete the localthumbchache.package any time you install or remove a Mod from your game ALWAYS. Best of luck. :)

Yes, it will basically help clean out any traces of the mods that you have deleted or updated.

Cool timing ! I just finished sorting out my mods and ... like a good newbie i had put the mods i downloaded in the mods folder (from the sims4 catalog) and out of about 500, i had a dozen or so that didnt work. Now i just found out like after 6 months that you have to update all the mods ! Then i found the sims mod manager by game time dev, not sure if its the only one around but in any case there are some features, like loading and unloading mods, that i dont really use. The manager basically allowed me to see which file is which mod so i could manually remove them. Id recommend using the tool but im not sure i use it properly ! I didnt risk using the loading features, i sorted out my mods all in the mods folder and it seems to be fine for me, i now have 595 all in the mods folder, but no scripts mods, just hairstyles clothes and accessories mods, i dont personally want to enhance my game more than this, it appears to be stable. But that localthumbchache.package you mentionned, i did not know that

Thanks for this reminder! I just added mods for the first time this month and updated them today and this was very timely advice!

Well, I don't even know where to begin with mods at all. But I've been recently starting to watch Kelsey Impicche channel and I'm assuming she has a bunch installed? I really like her game play and interactions she has.

I am so very glad my mention was helpful. I learned this information from modders or those who help test mods. I don't recall of their names, so my shout out is general so as not to accidentally miss someone. Happy Simming and welcome to the world of Mods and cc (AKA custom content).

One of the best places for information about finding, downloading, installing and caring for Mods and CC are fan sites like Carls Sims 4 Guide and Simscommunity. Both sites (you will need to scroll through articles in simscommuniy to find) have good basic instructions and suggestions for Mods and CC. Some Mod creators also have instructions for downloading and installing their Mods. Deaderpool for example has instructions for installing MCCC on his tumbler and has a discord for questions.
Can you ask your You Tuber about her Mods? She may have a blog or such where it is easier to ask questions (I don't watch You Tubers much so I'm less help with this).

There are mods for all kinds of gameplay. Everyone has different preferences, so it just depends on what interactions you want to add or change. Maybe the YouTuber has a mod list on her videos, or you can check out the mod section on this forum for suggestions.

Ok, I tried looking on the youtubers videos and I see no list of mods she uses at all. So I don't even know where to begin. I just liked her game play and stuff. So now I'm just lost and confused.
