Remember how we could charge sims for simply being on our lot? It was introduced with the Open For Business pack, and was perfect when making your own a-bit-on-the-side business, including a home business. I miss this object a lot. My sims had various businesses and services, and if it was something that could not be charged directly (not really in the game), I just used the "charge present sim per 30 minutes" thing to make sure my active sim had some income from the business. I could invite over a club/group just to make the place busy. Or I could invite individual sims. I ran a restaurant this way (just serving a buffet of home cooked food), a shrink (just talking with the client for as long as possible, a card game playing club room, in office supervising/consultations, speeches and you name it.
One simple object with such a great variety of use - I wish we had it in TS4.
Who else recall this feature? (not sure if we also had it in TS3, don't think so, maybe the ticket system in the TS3 store was a similar thing)
Ticket machines are objects available in The Sims 2: Open for Business and The Sims 3 Store that can be used to create venues by requiring visiting Sims to pay for a ticket in order to stay on the lot or access a certain room.
I miss OFB in general. That was my favorite expansion of the entire series. If you're not opposed to mods, here's one that charges an entrance fee for TS4. It's a custom lot trait that you add wherever you want to charge to enter.
I use this one on places like movie theaters, arcades, museums, etc. I both like that when I go visit these places, my sims get charged and when I play the owner, they make money from sharing whatever they have.

I remember the ticket machine and miss it too. I used to use it with museums, community pools, movie theaters, skating rinks and gyms. So much fun.

I remember that even though have not used it much. I think I goofed up somehow in my latest attempt as household members need to use it to interact with anything in their own home!
I know you didn't ask for nominations, but how about the food processor? All these years, and TS4 still doesn't have one, not even from the kitchen stuff pack. Say, what?

You have to click on the ticket machine to stop charging customers on a home lot.
I like the idea of a lot trait for TS4 to charge Sims for hanging out and using my Sim's stuff. That sounds like a mod I would use.
No food processor? I thought Sims in TS4 made smoothies, or was that TS3?

Thank you for the tip. Will check that out.
We have scads of coffee machines, the ones for ice cream and popcorn, microwaves, but no processors. Smoothies may be TS3. I don't remember ever making one in 4.
Thanks for the lot trait mod link! I will definitely check that.
On the same note - if anyone knows of a mod that makes it cheaper to have community lots served, please share! In the past I had no problem paying §100 to get the bar served so that my sim can buy one single drink. I could pretend §100 was cover charge. But with the CoL grocery stall and garden stall, I find it stupid that my sim must pay §100 to be able to buy one ingredient costing §5. I understand that it makes game run better if community lot stalls are not served by default, but I don't understand why they cost §100. Technically they would work even if it rather cost §0 to hire the vendor.

You can make a community space lot, the default one will be enough, with all the food stalls in the game and shop there whenever you need something. The vendors are summoned for free on such lots.

LittleMsSam's Auto Empolyees mod makes bartenders, stall holders, etc. spawn automatically.
I remember the ticket machine from Sims2, it was awesome! One of my sims homes had a casino-type establishment on the first floor with lots of card tables and what-not. I had hoped it would be included in Sims4 but alas, it was not.
I will definitely be looking into the mod for the lot trait, thanks for sharing @Mstybl95.

I also use this mod. Honestly, she has amazing lot traits and they're all worth having, especially if you like to set up lots to run and also visit with other families.

I loved that feature in TS2.
It allowed you to have a sim run and own a bar. I had a vampire sim that owned a Jazz club.
