Spa Day Question - Is it possible?

I haven't been at my laptop to download the refresh for Spa Day yet, but in theory, is it possible for a sim to run their own spa/nail salon since you can do it earning money now? It seems, somehow, this should be possible for your sim to be a masseuse and/or nail technician. I'm just thinking how to transform into your own business with a building where customers can come in. thoughts?

@aaronrulz it is possible. Check out my lot NaeNae's Nail Salon. It is a retail lot.

There is not a specific mechanic to do it per se (like buy a restaurant, for example), but it definitely looks like you can makeshift it. I can see the benefits of using a retail lot (foot traffic and selling merchandise), but I'd personally focus on a home studio sort of set up.

Sims used to give each other foot massages autonomously on retail lots before the patch. If you want to feel like you're working in a busy salon, a retail lot works great. The best part about the upgrades is that now you can basically set up shop anywhere there is an empty room. Love it so much! 🙂

I've had sims give autonomous foot massages in a restaurant too, so that could also be worth considering.

I'm leaning towards a retail lot with space to sell spa and wellness related items. Include some of the potions from Outdoor Retreat.

thanks all! My only issue with making it a retail lot is that I wouldn't want to deal with employees and telling them to work. I want it to be a one sim show. What if i made it a "park", and just grabbed customers in that way? and thanks for the recommendation @troshalom !

You don't have to hire employees or set stuff for sale. But you get traffic while you open the business.

It does seem versatile, in the sense that you can now either make money on other lots, run a home business of sorts, or purchase a retail lot to open a salon. We have lots of options now.

so could even have our sim work in an established spa already and grab clients that way in a spa lot? That could be useful to start out before getting their own business.

I was thinking of doing this first of all, as my sims never seem to have enough money to buy a retail lot. But I reckon you could get rich quick doing yoga classes at the local spa :)

@crocobaura I set the lot up as a retail lot and let another sim family I don't control own it. So when I go to the lot with my sim who has the aspiration they can use the chairs to offer mani/pedi - just make sure your sim has wellness level 6. Advertise your services on simstagram and then tend the chair. It was funny the first person who requested a manicure was a retail employee. So I don't run the retail lot. Your sim can also tend chairs at the spa or take the portable chair to any lot and start offering mani/pedi and/or massages.

I mean, it's not unrealistic if you think about it. How many times have you seen someone with just a chair in a small spot at the airport, a mall, etc., offering chair massages or similar on-the-go services. If you wanted to go full-realism, you could have your sim periodically "rent" the space by giving some simoleans to the retail lot owner.

I like the idea of a sim working in a spa but is there a way to make their work room just theirs and the NPC spa workers don't use it?

You can take the chair with you in your inventory. So you just need to make an empty room at the spa, so you can place your chair down when you get there.

You could make a little spa in cottage living. Turn one of the rooms at the pub into a nail salon and and get those farming ladies to have their nails done. Or for fun, you could offer manicures at the festivals. :)

definitely worth considering. However my Cottage Living save is a male YA farmer who lives with his elderly mother. So I guess he needs to find a wife who could be that wellness guru. haha

I already have several small businesses on community lots, like in the basement of a mall or a corner of the park. I like the idea that my active sim can go there to do their services or pretend they work there (say freelance writer or stylist). I play those rooms mostly with the working sim, not a big deal to me that I can't go there as a customer and buy the service. I don't think doors can be locked on community lots, but you could always (re)move the door in BB mode, to stop other sims from using the facilities when your "owning" sim is not there.

I have a beauty parlour in a retail lot that so far has been used mostly by the retail staff to give each other foot massages. Now I will be able to take a sim there to give manicures. But I need to solve the stealing is caring NAP issues the is currently blighting my game, no community lot is safe from it. 😭
