Did they ever explain why they decided to work in a Pack Refresh as opposed to releasing a new pack? I’m curious why they put off releasing a new pack (of any theme) and instead decided to refresh a pack they had already released.
Someone who watched the Live Stream maybe could shed some light on if that topic was discussed.
It wasn't discussed but I will say this. If you don't have Spa Day, it is CERTAINLY worth getting now. I rather they do a refresh for free than make some stuff pack and just add in Nails and facials. I think we are getting the better deal here for now...LOL

The pack refresh looks so great! You added so many new gameplay features. My favorites being the new aspirations, multigame crossover (rewarding players for having all the packs), kids having more to do and essentially more careers - even if self employed. Oh and the color matching! Really love those features!
Traits and Aspirations are always what I want more of. I wish there was an aspiration for each hobby you can have in the game. Sometimes those really cool features get forgotten about because no one knows they are available or how to do them. An aspiration would help with that.
Game crossover rewards players and makes me feel excited that the two expansion packs I have for a certain game go together and help improve each other. Think of how the new food from Snowy escape and Cottage living enhanced dine out! Or when packs come with cold weather wear, it enhances Seasons. Even if each pack just came with new swatches. So they only appeared if you had certain packs. That would be a huge incentive to buy diff packs.
The color swatches are all over the place. I understand that you're trying to give us diversity and options, but I actually limits our options to have everything (even black and white) a slightly different color. Please please please unify the color swatches. Even if only just black and white. It's so frustrating that so many are just ever so slightly off.
But I love the idea of refreshes! I do not have spa day but I am definitely buying it now! And I'm sure that would be the effect with the other packs if they were refreshed. Dine out seems to be a fan favorite to get a refresh. Really if all you did was allow us to be the chef in our own restaurants, and made the whole process faster, that would be enough.

So there's a new nail section in CAS. As expected, you'll be able to customize your nails in the base game, and more will be included in Spa Day.
We have three new Aspirations, including one about becoming a self-care specialist and monetizing Wellness activities.
Some item swatches were altered to better match the new stuff?
Face masks can reduce negative moodlets, but irritate skin if left on too long. The kids' versions are child-friendly and safe. It looks like changing your outfit removes the mask?

I have to admit, I'm impressed. Knowing this game, especially since this is a completely free add-on, I was totally expecting them to just add a few recolours, maybe a wellness-related aspiration, and call it a day. Instead they've given us three wellness aspirations, wellness for children, the ability to make money with wellness, new CAS and BB items in addition to the recolours, an entire new CAS and gameplay aspect with the nails, and cross compatibility with other DLC such as Get Famous, Parenthood and occult packs.
The only thing that disappoints me is that while children can now participate in wellness, they don't build the actual skill, meaning that they probably won't reap the benefits such as teleporting either. But all the other stuff we're getting for free more than makes up for that.
The only thing I'm not sure about is bringing children to the Spa, and offering Spa treatment. I'm pretty sure most spas don't allow that. But it's just a game so I guess it's nice for players to be able to bring the whole family to a spa.
I have seen a number that actually do, but usually very specific services with a chaperone. Think like a mandatory kids menu and a guardian is still required to be present. Honestly, as expensive as the spa kiddie menus tend to be, I cannot imagine bringing a kid. The value proposition is 100% about making them feel included more than anything else.
Ironically enough I had to make choice between going to real sauna and watching the livestream on time so I went to real sauna but I went in and watched it late and yes I am glad theres black nails and I'm glad my sims don't have to be spa regulars to have nails if they just want the nails
I wonder though if sim that already has nails gets their nails done does it change the nails permanently or will the cas added nails be back once the gameplay ones wear off or what?
I love the trailer and the stream - all did a very good job. I LOVE SimGuruVlad - it seems she's the reason we got so many details in the refresh and specifically the face mask, that's my impression at least. I love that we get a different reward trait for each of the aspirations, and that they really expanded the use of the spa gameplay objects. Love that you can choose to have nail gameplay or just add them in CAS.

I love everything they added. The face masks, the nail polish, the possibility to offer massages and tech yoga. I already have a beauty parlour in my game, can't wait to start using it. Also the new chairs are very comfy looking, look like private plane/first class type chairs, think they would be wonderful for watching movies.

It depends on the spa, your local jurisdiction, and what activities you are talking about.
There are certainly yoga classes for children all over the place. Ours loved toddler yoga, and it was such a great way to curb temper tantrums. Eventually I could quell a good 80% of outbursts just by saying, "take your deep yoga breath!"
ETA: this was 10-20 years ago, so definitely not a trendy new young mom thing! And I have friends who grew up with their parents taking them to yoga classes from a young age in the 70s and 80s.
In fact 30 seconds in I discovered that my ar-se was already moving along to the beat. I wouldn't call it twerking per se....but it...moved. And that says something.
I also kinda missed the livestream because I was interrupted..., although I think i got most of what it was about anyway.
This pack is what I would have liked it to be at the very start and I'm super stoked that Maxis will be investing time and money on these much needed pack upgrades.
I also agree with others in that it's refreshing to see so many CC Creators being involved with The Sims 4's further development. Nice one.

Granted, I am still disappointed that they picked Spa Day over Outdoor Retreat, but credit where credit is due, the new features are impressive.
I still don't care for the manicures and pedicures, and IMO I don't think the nails 'blend in' with the maxis match style. To me, it simply looks like alpha custom content - something I am not fond of.
Aside from the nails though, I approve of the new aspirations and traits. Those categories are a common complaint of mine, so it's nice to see more being added. I love the new furniture too, especially the portable massage table and chair. That's such a brilliant idea, and it takes me back to my college days when I studied beauty therapy. I mostly did mobile work after college, though not so much these days. Still though, it's awesome that I can now replicate a career in beauty therapy. I really like that we're getting additional swatches for the yoga mats too, and that they all match the instructor mats.
So overall, it's pretty decent, and it's definitely inspired me to play around with Spa Day now - just er... please refresh Outdoor Retreat next!

I wasn't expecting much, and not all of the update is to my taste, but I do like the general look and feel of what I'm seeing so far. They didn't really show them in the trailer because they were showcasing Ebonix's fancy nails, but there are plain short and medium length nails with muted or standard color swatches, plus some patterned versions as well. There's actually a ton of variety and from what I saw they looked really good.
