Little Sim World probably won’t replace The Sims, and Paralives might not either. But I think it’s great that The Sims will have competition now. Maybe that’s why they are looking to hiring someone to do core upgrades on TS4. They are aware that other games are starting to cause players to take a look at them, even if they are still in development.

Did they hire someone to do core upgrades? I was going to say, how many more packs can this game handle before it really starts to lag. Sounds like they really do plan on going for a while if they plan on updating the core of the game.

    yes they did
more for sim kids and more drama please

I know they had posted a job listing looking for someone to do core upgrades. I am reluctant to buy anymore packs until the closer to the end of the series and I hope I can avoid bugs.

I played a LOT of Sims4 in a relatively short period of time (only got it in 2019) and got all the packs (even Supernatural which I have almost not played) except I draw the line at those "packets" or whatever they are...basically vending-machine junkfood of gaming bits I don't give a flip about anyway, and being creative, did a lot of storytelling and exploring but finally, the marionette aspect of the Sims, in which they don't actually have any impetus of their own, drove me to repurchase Sims 3 because my laptop has no way to read the old game disk I still had, and I haven't touched Sims4 again since, even though I have fond memories (in my head) of the personalities (again, that I pretty much made up in my head) of the Windenburg families in particular.

Sims 3 is what I'm spending money on now, and haven't regretted a dime of it. In fact it has revealed to me just how poor Sims4 is by comparison. So many things I didn't know were already there in Sims3, came late and defective, into Sims4 just recently, and people were so excited, not realizing that a lot of things were taken straight out of Sims3 and recycled. The laundry line appears identical. The bunk beds from Sims3 so long ago, worked properly from the start even with loft beds with desks under them. Toddlers and babies can be taken out in strollers, or ride spring toys, etc. Even the graphics, which I at first thought were not so great in Sims3, actually are just as great in Sims3 once I got everything set maxed and custom. In fact, Sims4 now suffers by comparison.

So I hope people who have become disillusioned with Sims4 and are even more reluctant about Sims5 (as am I) will check out the comparison videos out there on Youtube made recently by many avid Sims Youtubers, showing all the ways that Sims3 actually beats Sims4, and get Sims3 from Origin. With my laptop (and it's nothing that snazzy, it's a Dell from like 2014) I can run Sims3 with like 8 packs installed and tons of CC without problems. Also all of Sims4, but I barely touch it now. Take advantage of modern PCs being more than a match for Sims3 now and get a robust game for a reasonable price that still has Sims who do things on their own (but there's a slider for that, so you can still micromanage or play god), that still has surprises, a sense of humor, even mods for skin textures and facial features that make them blow away the Sims of Sims4 (though I haven't bothered with those, I've seen the breathtaking Sims of some people here who have).

I pooh-poohed the colorwheel, the ability to customize colors, textures, materials, and patterns on everything, and so on, til I tried them and now realize the value of it. Sims3 also doesn't constantly go through mod-breaking updates. So that's my answer to the prospect of Sims5: Sims3 has all the game I need.

Sims 3 used to go through mod-breaking updates when it was being updated; but I agree that it's nice not to have to re-download updated mods every month. Mandatory updates have kept me from playing TS4 several times, because I just didn't feel like reinstalling mods.

I've always been a big TS3 fan, but I've also usually had a pretty powerful computer. TS3 isn't very efficient, and back when TS3 was the main Sims game, normal computers sometimes had trouble running it. That turned off a lot of people. Now normal computers are way more powerful than even the best computers when TS3 was new, and run the game great even with all of the packs. It's also very buggy; and (at least in my opinion) needs the NRaas mods to work properly long term. That's all now stable and works great, but back when TS3 was new, sometimes those fixes didn't yet fix things very well.

All of that makes for an interesting situation where TS3 is now a fantastic gaming experience; and better than when it was new. The only thing I enjoy more in TS4 is the ability of the characters to multitask. I like everything else better in TS3, including the graphics (that's very subjective though).

The biggest problem with TS3 is that it's built with the same engine that ran TS2, which by the end of TS2 days was getting very old and incredibly outdated.
Which in turn hampered TS3 midway through it's lifespan because it just couldn't keep up with what the team was trying to do with the game. Idk about anyone else, but Island Paradise was nearly unplayable for me. With so much lag and pathing errors, it was a nightmare trying to get it to run. In the end, my old midrange laptop just couldn't keep up with it.

It's a shame that they pretty much hampered TS3 by building it in the old TS2 engine, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20. XD

And still...even with hindsight, they failed to make TS4 an actual simulation game. I mean...how the heck do you go from simulation game to just a build mode and CAS and forget about the rest of the game. Without mods this game is literally stand around and talk.

I think so many of the TS4 players started using mods very early on and have completely forgotten how bad the vanilla game actually plays out.
It is literally musical chairs and yak, yak, yak still today.
@Cinebar Yeah, for my part I fit to this description (except for "forgetting it" lol). I only started playing Sims 4 in April. I had had the base game for a long time (got it for free) and finally decided to try it out. I grew bored of it in one day. But, since there happened to be a sale, I got some packs pretty much tailored for my interests and they made the game a lot more enjoyable. However, it only took like a month (don't know what the actual play hours are during that time period, maybe around 2 hrs/day) and I was already downloading gameplay mods and fixes. In other tittles of the series, not only did the basegame manage the entertain me far longer, I never downloaded many gameplay mods during the entire time I have played these games. E.g. in TS3 some Nraas mods were a must plus I liked to add some more "out there" ones allowing me to have deadlier vampires and such, but that was about it. It was mostly about CC. Same with TS2. Very few mods adding to gameplay while vast majority was CC. With TS4 it's been flipped and I'm constantly looking for ways to enhance the core gameplay and how the sims behave while ignoring CC (except for some stuff for males). Because with TS4 my biggest issues are with gameplay and that's kind of a huge thing as a gameplay/sims focused person (I don't care about building).

I do have fun with TS4 now but hoo boy were the first impressions bad and it seems like a lot of my enjoyment is because of roleplaying and mods. For example: I pretty much made my TS4 Homeless challenge sim a replica of my TS3 one because she was hilariously obnoxious and had a tendency to mess everything up autonomously. I realize the actual behavior of the TS4 iteration is SO mild in comparison but I'm still having fun because I pretty much "force" her to behave the way I interpret the character a.k.a roleplay. I did roleplay in other Sims titles as well but in TS4 it seems to be more important than ever.

@Cinebar and @ClarionOfJoy I never got into TS3, I pretty much skipped that. I absolutely adored TS2, it was the exact game I wanted my whole life. Unfortunately I can no longer access it, and I miss it dearly. I tried TS3 when it was new and I didn't really like the way it looked, plus in the beginning there wasn't any way to play rotationally and I just wasn't interested in the playstyle. I know that later, with mods and changes in the game, there were lots of rotational players but by then I was doing grad school and keeping really busy. I came to TS4 more recently and that was when I got involved in mods. So I can't really speak to the double standard here, but I definitely notice there is some vehement defending of TS3 by those who love it.

Actually, every time someone posts any inaccurate information about TS3, it gives me an opportunity to point out all the true and wonderful things about it instead. It results in readers wanting to try out TS3 even more after they find out what great stuff it actually has - it's not the OP I'm actually trying to reach. So yeah, in truth, I rather like these opportunities to help people get to know more about TS3! It doesn't bother me at all. <3o:)

Lol yeah @ClarionOfJoy already got me to buy all of the ts3 packs😆😆 only reason I'm not playing it is because I find it impossible to play both ts3 and ts4 (I don't know how people do it)
So since I'm still having fun with ts4 I decided to stick with this one. However, after ts4 ends and ts5 takes the (multiplayer) spotlight. I will be playing ts3 again if I ever get bored of ts4.

Just seen on Twitter. I wonder what they mean?

EA will reportedly announce the revival of a fan-favorite series at their EA Play Live event in July. https://bit.ly/35EUzPd

Shame. It looks like a Starwars one? Got my hopes up for a bit!

They posted a hint which said “we’re going to see it
if we’re not dead first”. so it's most likely Dead Space.

The Sims Online was not really a game. It was just a glorified "chat room" which used avatars that resembled the Sims game and I can't believe I paid monthly subscription fee to "play" it...but not for long. I certainly won't revisit something like that. Luckily I still have Sims 1, 2, 3 and 4 all still on my computer so I can always revisit those. I'm way past the demographic age group EA is interested in at this point.

a roblox style route sounds interesting, but not what the game is intended to be. if they continue with this idea they will lose thousands of players including myself

    Interesting.

From to the job experience listing that was posted we know the following:

It’s a Simulation HD Game (PC / Consoles)
Developed / Prototyped in Unreal Engine 4
The game features a “3D Menu Navigation”
    Includes “Super Abilities”
Comes with “Co-Op Player vs Environment” Events

I'm not sure what to think either,

It's a simulation game so that's good... developed in Unreal Engine 4, does that mean that the game will run in unreal or will they build their own engine from it?, 3D Menu Navigation sounds like it could improve the UI a lot so that sounds good.

Super Abilities? no idea if that's good or bad. Co-Op Player vs Environment doesn't sound too bad as long as you can do it in single player as well.

Reading about this, it sounds like this new IP (which from I understand is not the next sims) will be a bit like It takes two, from Hazelight.

New IP sounds good. Shove all the experimental online, multiplayer, co-op, PvP and single sim/avatar playstyle over there and make Sims 5 a classic Sims game instead. I'd probably buy both.

Isnt it saying this is not about sims?

Since this is a new Intellectual Property it means that we can expect a whole new Simulation Game from Maxis, and not a successor or a spin-off to some of Maxis’ current titles such as The Sims, SimCity, Spore and more.
The Sims has currently lost its identity. Bring it back for TS5

Yeah. If it was online I probably won't be buying it. One subscriptions can be draining and why would I want to continually pay to use something I technically have downloaded and owned. I never got it. Two I am very much a storyteller. All my sims have complicated story lines and things going on I play out. It would break submersion for me to have someone come up and act or interact in a way I don't use have or want. And separate servers for different players is not an answer some people are just trolls. Not to mention if they get tired of Sims 5 when 6 comes down the road if there is a 6 what happens when they don't maintain the servers. Then I have a unplayable game I invested time in and unplayable lovable characters as well

It sounds like a superhero or sci-fi simulation. If this is the online multiplayer competitive game that EA is pushing for then I'm totally fine with that - as long as they don't touch our beloved The Sims main franchise! I can see where competition can be had in this new IP and I can see this as a survival game as well (where co-op works really well, like in Generation Zero for example). I would probably be interested in something like this!

Please keep TS5 single-player with a robust engine, open world system with CAW and CASt and add in all the best features of each past iteration and add even more awesome features in!

They are sharing, they could create marketplaces.

What we arm them with and the capabilities and frameworks we arm them with and where they take that I think it’s going to be a pretty significant surprise and a pretty exciting time for us as we bring these tools and platforms to market.

If I parse that correctly, they noticed how much money is in cc and want to secure themselves a slice of that cake by providing an official platform where creators can offer their mods to players directly in game. That would probably help enforce the "x weeks payed early access, then free for everyone" policy (which is a good one), but on the other hand it also means they can curate what mods and cc we have access to. One of my favorite pieces is a bike turned into a hose, but it has clipping issues, so EA most likely wouldn't greenlight it. The Landgraabs would also have to kiss goodbye their love lounge and the fall/winter mods I keep current for private use would go out of the shop the moment an official Seasons EP launches. Not ideal for the end user.

My worry is that this will be just another way Big Tech will spy on all of us.

But wouldn't it just be an option, like cc not on the marketplace could be found elsewhere. I don't think it will limit any access.

I think EA will keep Sims 5 as an offline/single player game.
