Cross-Pack Gameplay

Sul sul. I think this is a great topic, and I'm surprised there isn't any thread specific to this. I figured it'd be nice to have them all in one place, also to see the current state of cross-pack compatibility in the game.

What are some cool cross-pack gameplay elements/features you know?

I'll start.

Fame (GF) can be used to boost admission chances for university (DU). With enough celebrity level and having submitted a University application, there will be an interaction in the Phone panel called "Flaunt Fame to Boost Admission Chances for..." or something.

I didn't know that about Get Famous and Discover University. I don't have many famous sims though.

I like using Plopsy from Nifty Knitting for my sims to make money. I've used it for flower arranging from Seasons, photography, and of course candle making. I usually register my sims as self-employed as a Plopsy seller.

Fame, Reputation, and Club system are well integrated.Swimming is in more worlds now too, still wish Oasis Springs lake and Windenburg Island had swimming though. I like the way new plants are added to so many packs. I’ve used sales tables and like the way plopsy works. I like all the plants being brought to the game.

I have to agree the club system is really well integrated, such as including behaviours from various expansions as club actions like “cast spells” from realm of magic.

The custom holidays option in Seasons also includes options that relate to unrelated packs, for example there are options to create a Halloween-themed holiday with suggested actions such as “interact with vampires” or “carve a pumpkin” from the Spooky Stuff pack.

I made a teen bowling team (bowling night stuff) by forming a club (get together) and when my teens aged up, they got bowling skill scholarships when they applied to Uni. (discover university)

Spa Day, with the Wellness skill, meditation and yoga, to simulate Force disciplines in Journey to Batuu. I can't take a meditation stool or yoga mat with me, but I can (and do) have them installed around my Dai Bendu Kyber Dojo. :)

Vampires who drink from possessed Sims (Strangerville) become possessed too. I love that! 😂

Also if you use it to make drinks with the juice fizzer in Eco Lifestyle

I just took my young Global Superstar through Uni. He was able to qualify for scholarships. Nobody asked him about his finances and ability to pay. He got straight A +s all three Terms and graduated. :) Yes, his fellow Sims on campus recognized him, left, right and sideways, but other than that there was no interference from either pack. They played nicely together. That's why I'm hopeful Cottage Living can be applied IE gardening in the other neighborhoods if I can't feasibly have my Sims live in HoB.

I think Jungle Adventure has been one of my favorites for playing nicely with other packs. Mermaids make excellent Selvadoradan explorers. They can just hop in the many pools around the jungle and sleep, and their hydration stays high so hygiene isn't an issue. The different berries from the Tree of Emotions are perfect for juice fizzing from Eco Lifestyle; the juice will give the moodlet that corresponds to the berry it was made from, so I don't have to keep looking up different effects. I haven't played with that too much, but I don't see a lot of people mentioning that when talking about fizzing. One of my favorite restaurants using the Dine Out pack is a Selvadoradan themed restaurant; the whole menu is all the special foods, the restaurant uses all the build/buy items, and the employees all dress up. It's such an easy restaurant theme.

Vampire vets can make plasma packs from pets in the surgery machine. Don't worry, the pet is fine :)

This is soooo interesting. The idea that we can farm our pets plasma kinda irks me, but I'm glad that they're fine haha.

I didn't know that Vamps can get plasma packs from the pet surgery machine, very cool. I wonder if Vamps can drink from a cow or chicken or better yet turn the cow into a vampire cow & the chicken into a vampire chicken from Cottage Living. Lol :D

Attack of the Vampire Chicken! 😂. I want to see if this is possible!

(But if this becomes a film I’d like Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence to play the scientists 👨‍🔬 👩‍🔬 .)
Now alternating between Sims 2,3 and 4! 😊☕️🌞

Oh I forgot to mention some of the crossovers with outdoor retreat too, now that we can have rental lots anywhere, tents can be used for a cheap camping trip in other worlds. Also my sims who explore the jungle in jungle adventure can take their tents, to sleep in and ice chests to eat from ( from outdoor retreat ). I am wondering if some of the herbal concoctions for insects from outdoor retreat can be used in places like snowy escape for insect bites and such,

Okay - I am admittedly a HUGE NERD, and how others choose to play their Sims is their business. But, for myself, I am a stickler for keeping my saves "setting-appropriate". My Batuu save lives on its own. I don't do Star Wars elsewhere (though I might place the occasional toy).

Island Living sent me into a research tailspin about Polynesian history and culture - I could see that the dev team had done a deep dive to pull traditional elements into play, and I felt a need to understand it in context. Likewise, I could tell you more about the historicity of Art Nouveau to the Occult Revival (see Realm of Magic) than any normal person would want to hear.

So - I was just now googling around, brushing up on what I thought I recalled of animal fables in medieval literature - just to make sure I had not mis-named my Cottage Living rooster, Chaunticleer (I had not). And following links, as one does, I stumbled on this bit of historical/cultural trivia about chickens:
Chickens were spread by Polynesian seafarers and reached Easter Island in the 12th century AD, where they were the only domestic animal, with the possible exception of the Polynesian rat (Rattus exulans). They were housed in extremely solid chicken coops built from stone, which was first reported as such to Linton Palmer in 1868, who also "expressed his doubts about this". (source)

So - Chickens? Totally fair game to include in Island Living saves. Though probably against HMO and zoning ordinances on Lani St. Taz. ;)

Yeah I just wish the group interaction “Cast Spells”
    Wasn’t mischief and mayhem.

I wanted to create a group of Spellcasters and have sims use magic more openly, maybe like a magical book club, seekers of knowledge, Keepers of Lore and History. we make potions together we have duels, maybe there would be a new perk if we used our magic together our magic would be stronger.

but when I brought them together, one spellcaster burnt down my entire library. I thought the whole castle was going to burn down. Like if they used magic to do mundane things, achieve goals and solve problems like conjure food because they’re hungry if they know the spells, teleport, to get somewhere faster, light a fire place because they’re cold. Cast a glamour spell to clean people and objects up.

But no All I get is chaos and destruction.

Using GTW Retail to make shops of many types. Ideally I'd love for all sims to be able to buy all things somewhere in game and minimise Buy catalogue usage, while maximising rotational profits for store owners. Same with DO restaurants. Have various culinary ethnicities and rotational wealth for the restaurant owner sims.

Clubs (GT) can be combined with University Housing (DU) to form Greek Houses (Fraternities/Sorority). University Housing can be set to only be available for Organisation or Club members. Clubs can be set to invite only so you have to befriend/impress the leader to join the club and once you join the club you can move into their house. You can also make University Housing for specific skills this way too, like one for all the musical skills, comedy, dance and acting to make something similar to stage school dorms.

You can combine CL with SE to turn the Japanese bar into a Karaoke bar instead. I plan to make this the only Karaoke Bar in my base save.

You can combine the BG gaming rigs, GT arcade machines, BN bowling alleys, KR VoidCritter device, CL gaming console with huge TV and S roller rink and maybe child and toddler jungle gyms too into a Retro Arcade (designate as a Bar, if you want bowling teams to show up). I recommend adding Teen Hangout and possible Student Hangout lot traits to get lots of young people to show up here. Planning to place mine at Planet Honey Pop location which is perfect for GeekCon and teen/YA dates to the Romance Festival. Add a kitchen or LP buffet table to make it a great place for kids' parties. Make gamer, skaters, bowling and VoidCritter/kids clubs to hang out here. Don't forget to add SE food and Simmi vending machines too.

You can make a Casino if you have JtB. Set a lot as a Lounge. Make a fancy lobby with fountains and statues. A cabaret set-up for musicians and comedians (surround the stage with round dining tables and have a bar nearby). Place gaming tables (any style) in another room set to Sabacc so you actually play for money. This would be a fab venue to add those Up and Coming and Celebrity Hotspot lot traits to. I'd place this either in OS on the strip or DSV where the awards shows happen. Maybe even both. Make a gambling club so there are always sims playing at the tables.

You can make the Granite Falls National Park more interesting by making it into a combination of an Outdoor Training Centre and Onsen/Spa. Add a building with FS climbing treadmills, changing rooms and a lounge area with a fireplace, boardgames, boockases and access to hot drinks. Outdoors place a SE hot spring, fishing pond with custom stocked fish, SD sauna in an appropriate log hut, a yoga mat or meditation stool or two, OR horseshoes game, camping area with firepit or bonfire seating area and room for a couple of tents and picnic area with grill and picnic bench. Maybe add in the DHD kids' play tent too.

If you have GT and CoL don't forget to add a dartboard to the pub and set up a couple of rival darts teams as clubs.

You can also make Sports/Leisure Centres by using Gyms or Pools and adding sports from other packs. GT Diving platforms, CL basketball court, DU soccer pitch/balls and ping pong table, dojo with SV sparring robots and dance studio with GT dancefloor for synched group dancing. Maybe add a bike rack and bikes outside too so sims can go cycling. Set up sports team clubs for various activities too.

Here's some packs that combined as a theme:

Get to Work/Strangerville/Journey to Batuu - Science Fiction Fantasy

    Get Together/Cats & Dogs/Cottage Living/Vampires/Realm of Magic - Historical Fantasy

Island Living/Jungle Adventure - Prehistoric Play

    City Living/Get Famous/Vintage/Bowling - 1930/1950s Play

    Dine Out/Perfect Kitchen/Country Kitchen - Restaurant Play

    Snowy Escape/Parenthood/Kids Room/Toddlers/Nifty Knitting - Family Play

If you own Nifty Knitting and Cottage Living you can knit a handful of the new animal outfits.

Cats can play with yarn from NK and pets will react to hauntings from Paranormal.

    @EmmaVane

Love all those fab ideas! I'm definitely going to make a dart's league (club) for the Gnome's Arms in HoB.... a pub just isn't a pub without dart boards and a bunch of dart players having team competitions. I'll renovate the pub to have a games room area with a few dartboards, pub tables, tv, and fooseball. Adding a dart club will be the icing on the cake.

As DevonBumpkin would say: "Oh! I'm for it, darlings. Yes I am." :D

A lot of things are far-reaching, or can work with things from other packs, so I'll be more targeted in my listing:
-Vampires can deprive Merfolk of their Hydration.
-Cats apparently swat at hanging laundry.
-Bees from produce wax for candle-making.
-The weather panel shows "Strange Weather" when the Mother starts acting up in Strangerville.
-The rock wall gym equipment can increase rock climbing skill.
-The costume thing actors use to get dressed for their role counts towards the "wear costume" holiday tradition.
-Speaking of the above, talking to a sim in the fishman costume counts towards the "spooky" tradition (the one that asks you to talk to aliens, ghosts, and vampires).
-The Crystal Crown works with the crystals from both GTW and JA.
-If I'm not incorrect, things such as the dew collector, solar panels, and wind turbines work better in their relative weather (and snow can be collected for water).
-The "Dark Ley Line" lot trait makes vampire hybrids if even one of the couple is an occult.
-Vampires can guard against the sun using umbrellas, and can walk outside just find if it's cloudy.
Check out my 'Simming Tips' for detailed tips and tricks (TS4).

There aren't actual bike racks, but there is fencing. I use that metal industrial fencing from GTW, with the bikes leaning towards it.

There is also a debug fence or railing that works too.
