Today it happened. I had played the same save for almost two game weeks and it's winter. It's Friday and suddenly I noticed that every plant in the greenhouse was reverted to dirt piles. They worked fine until now, I hadn't done anything that would've been different. I hadn't even had to water the plants, not even once.
This is what it looked like. In the single planters at the back there were money trees and in other planters dragon fruits and roses.
I wonder what could've triggered it, but I don't have any idea. I hadn't traveled anywhere from the lot recently and the only thing I had done to the plants was to harvest them every day and fertilized them, but I had fertilized them earlier too and they never reverted.
Could it possibly be the fact that I didn't clear the cache the last time I played. I always clear the cache after every time I play, because it seems to help with the bugs and lagging. Yesterday I forgot to do it and today the reverting happened.
For me it happened when the season changed from winter to spring and my sim was ar the bar for NYE during the night. The birds of paradise, that were sheltered, reverted as they were coming into season. The dragon fruits, also indoors, did not, as they remained out of season.
The thing is, this is different from the plant reverting bug I had in another save, where approximately every other day, all plants would revert to dirt piles at 7AM. That one has a simple workaround by saving just before 7 every day and exiting without saving when the plants reverted. They always stayed grown after reloading.
So, these two instances aside, who knows how many plant reverted bugs there are? And which one they supposedly fixed?
However, plants, not trees, reverting when outdoors and going out of season is a feature - has been around since the gardening update/seasons, so well before the plant reverting bugs that were introduced around the time of eco lifestyle.
Brand new game / planted sage and grape in the wall planter / plants grew and were being harvested / started fishing skill / traveled to willow park, it was raining / traveled to willow creek's neighborhood with tree, it was raining/ traveled to oasis' park / fished for awhile / went home and plants converted back to seeds.
I don't bother to report bugs anymore. I had and may still have the litterbox bug. They said it was fixed and closed the bug report. It kept happening afterwards so I stopped playing with pets.
I've reported the plant bug a million times. I reported a bug with half walls on 2 sides of a room making all walls become invisible. I've uploaded lots with issues. I have never used mods in any game I play, don't have cc.
The only thing I have in my computer is a vpn, which I have to turn off to get origin to open, but I turn it back on after it opens. If EA wants to pay the hackers their ransom ware demands when they find me, then I'll leave it off, otherwise I'm turning it back on. My ex got hacked and he had my info on his computer and I kept getting ransom ware demands until I got a vpn.
in my last 2 games my sims had a full grown cow plant until the season changed to autumn and the cow plant became a sprout my sims could still feed, play and cuddle it. i deleted the cow plant after a simweek or 2.
Poor garden, @Kimmer , sorry that happened
That's an interesting note about clearing the cache. If that was the culprit maybe it will be helpful to others.
Did you try clearing the cache and restarting the game?
I probably mentioned this above, but you can also try putting the plant into household inventory and then back into the planter, and repairing the game; both of those fix dirt piles often for me.

Yes, I cleared the cache and restarted the game and it didn't help. I also put the plants into the household inventory and back into the planters and repaired the game but it didn't help either.
Luckily the family already has plenty of money to use, so they will manage for a while without their plants giving them harvest every day. I hope the plants won't revert many times in a row. If they do, then I have a problem, because the only one who is working from the family is the father who is an entertainer and although he's on level 10 in his career, it's not enough. They just moved into a big house and the rent is expensive. The garden is very much needed.
Unfortunately, as @Kimmer shared, clearing the cache makes no difference. I always do that after every time I play. I don't bother trying to repair, put the plants in household inventory, or try to reset them, etc. What I do when this happens is hold down the shift key and click on the plant. A menu will pop up. I choose, 'Set Gardening State' then 'Growth Stage' and finally choose 'Blossoming.' By doing that the plants pop back up fully grown and ready to harvest the next day as usual.
I figure it's not really cheating since it's not my Sims' fault there's a gardening bug. There are many more options though using that cheat if you so desire. Check it out sometime, it keeps me from tearing my hair out when my plants revert to dirt clumps. It's a bit of a pain and tedious if you have a rather large garden, but worth it if your Sims depend on the garden for income or meals.
Here's a link to a thread by @kalaksed that gives a more detailed description of all the options you can do with this cheat.
@Karababy52
Thanks for the idea of "cheating" the plants back. What a great idea. I didn't even know about it, but I'm gonna do that from now on.
I agree, it's not really cheating because it's a bug that the plants will revert back to just planted stage.
Does this only happen to indoor plants? Just aking because I never experienced reverting plants in my game, but always have my plants outside.
Before the latest patch (which was supposed to fix the bug) it happened both indoors and outdoors. After the patch I haven't had it happen outside anymore. The family that had all the plants in the greenhouse revert to dirt piles yesterday has also few outdoor plants, but they didn't revert, they're just fine.
I play rotationally too, and I just noticed that one family I have with a sizable garden had fruit tree’s ( pomegranate and cherry ) revert when I fertilized them ( one a small dog poop, one a large, if that makes any difference ) and it couldn’t have been the change of seasons because it was on a Thursday. They were fully grown tree’s when they reverted snd even had a fruit or two on them. I didn’t save my game so hopefully they won’t be reverted when I go back in.
I have another household I haven’t played in awhile because she gets high bills and has dragon fruits that reverted a long time ago to dirt piles, about 8 of them, snd she uses them to pay bills, so it ruins playing that household for me. I sure hope they fix these things soon, I’ve been planing this save since 2014, and I don’t use mods or CC. When mine revert it is in the green house and not all plants.
Oh, and both of these households have their gardens in a green house and the plants say sheltered on them.
They didn’t fix the babies being a different color when uploading either.
I don’t know what reverted my dragon fruit long ago
But, yesterday with a different family I fertilized a cherry tree and pomegranate tree and they reverted. (I used a large dog poop and small if that makes a difference ). My sims had just gotten back from traveling a couple places during the day, on into the night.
For the longest time, my sim barely had to weed, water, and spray for bugs on her plants.
I'm using the (Not Saying) planters and my sim needs to care for her garden. I had 2 plants die when it was raining for 3 days. I was like, they're freshly planted, it's raining, no weeds, and haven't evolved, why are they dieing? I found out the plants were getting bugs after I got my sim to level 9 in gardening skill.
No plants have reverted to dirt piles but I playing on a 28 day cycle and still in spring.
I'm thinking, whatever the devs did to the planters, they didn't touch the (Not Saying) planters. So far in my game, the (Not Saying) planters are working.
I'm (Not Saying) which planters I used because I think the devs nerfed the other planters because of people complaining about the level of care the garden needs. And that caused the dirt pile bug.

Almost all my sims garden so I pay close attention to their gardens. I switch out my plants on day one of every season so I know all the plants are in season. At this point my sister and I make bets on which plants will be there in a few hours...it's like a new game, Whack-a-Plant. Sometimes you just have to embrace the chaos.
Great entertainment, I had the camera focused on the garden when a tree popped up in the middle of my camera...startling, but funny.
In my house, dog hair sticks to everything but the dog.
They didn’t fix the babies being a different color when uploading either.
I've noticed this - but in my game it seems like they half fixed it. I do now see some babies with lighter skin tones, but there's no skin tone in between. They can either be extremely dark or extremely pale, seems like there are no middle tone babies even when both the parents have a middle skin tone.
My username has been my internet handle for over 20 years since I was 16 and refers to when I had a crush on a very tall boy. I intend absolutely no violence toward beautiful giraffes.
Indoors, outdoors, doesn't make a difference in a new saved game started shortly after the last update. I only really notice it if I go into build mode and come back to play mode. It also happens with only some plants and not the same plants each time.
Update: Oh! It happens literally all of the time. I've been dipping into build mode a lot in the past couple of days as me and my sims get used to the house and how they'll really use it, so I didn't realize the bug was happening until I stopped redecorating. I never know what the garden will look like the next time my sim checks it out. I'm a "clear cache" person every time I play, a once a week repairer, a super clean new mods folder and game since the last update. This is super annoying! I have all the packs except dust buster, which seems like more work than I want my sim to do for very little game satisfaction.
Plants are reverting to dirt piles in my game when seasons change. I have some outdoor and indoor, doesn't matter. My cache is cleaned every time I play.
Do you go into the cheat and debug menus first, before using the shift key? It looks like I’m going to have to try this cheat.
I'm not in the game at the moment to check, but if I remember correctly you must turn on testingcheats in the cheat box first before you will have the ability to shift click on any plants and get the cheat menu. Hope this helps as a temporary solution until the gardening bug is finally and completely fixed. You're welcome everyone that thanked me, but it's @kalaksed who should get the credit for finding this information and providing it in that thread.
That's weird. I tried placing my plants indoors and still none of them reverted to dirt piles when the Season changed. Do you all have Eco Living installed? Do you have gardening related NAPs that are active?

Someone needs to sneak into the EA headquarters and engrave this above every bathroom mirror.
