I don't know, I love Maxis, but I don't want a TS5 MMO and might have to jump ship and go with Steam's game.

I was disappointed in the Mass Effect remaster. ME1 looks a lot better, but has serious performance issues on a lot of computers. Quite a number of bugs, too. ME2 and ME3, at least to me, seem nearly identical to the original releases. I guess something in them was remastered, but I can't figure out what.

the price tag is what's different ;) instead of buying the game for 10$ you now pay 60$ for the very same game but with a remastered tag. they also do this with FIFA: they bring it out every year with as good as no changes for full price, and naturally it will reset FIFA Ultimate Casino...err Team so you have to gamble for players again...

It's actually all 3 games in the trilogy plus all the DLC, along with upgraded 4K textures across all games, upscaled prerendered cutscenes, and lots of tweaks to the first game to make it more consistent with the later two games

Maybe yes, maybe no. I only got Sims 4 because my Sims 3 stopped working properly. I never used mods/mcc. It kept freezing up to the point where I had to uninstall more than half of my Sims 3 packs. I really don't want another version of Sims. I like my PC games to be different from one another.
    For example:
I play my Civilization VI for the ruling of a Country, to build up my armies, wonders, technologies, trades & strategies.
I play my Sims 4 for making my human/occult/hybrids with their unusual homes & venues to go to & let them run amuck.

Basically, one game is alot of thinking & logic, the other is creative fun. ;)
My ideal PC game would be a combination of Civilization & Sims altogether. But that's just wishful thinking.

We will see about Paralives. I like the building set up with no snapping, and being able to lengthen or shorten things like counter tops.
I wish EA would have that stuff in Sims. But, I do know one thing. If Sims 5 is a MMO only, and no single player option. I will not be
buying it. Having a multi player option is one thing. Like the option to have friends sims visit your sims. But forcing everyone into
a world with everyone else. That is a absolute no.

@SERVERFRA how cool! a fellow Civ player  though i prefer Civ 4 and 5 over 6 but that's because i don't really like the artstyle of 6 and i prefer one tile cities and not having to waste all my capital tiles on wonders XD but a mix of civ and sims you say?? what do you have in mind when you think of a mix like that if i may ask?? just curious!

we are talking about greedy EA here....ofcourse it will be a pure MMO, and i dare to bet it will come with a pay to play subscription fee on top of the purchase price of the game to actually access the game you just bought, world of greedcraft style!

I've never considered FIFA to be an adequate representation of the game, and I lost all interest in both the NFL and the NBA a long time ago. So, I don't get ripped off by any of those. Instead, I waste my overpriced annual roster update money on Sega's Football Manager, which does exactly the same thing. Every year I think maybe, just maybe, they'll finally get it right. And of course they never do, because getting it right would ruin what's effectively an annual renewal system that they have in place. (sigh ...) We gamers really are our own worst enemies often times.

Fellow Sims and Civ VI player here! I also would love a game that mixes them both. I think I would like it if I could play a game that was both micro and macro of a life sim and a civ builder, if that makes sense. So basically I could zoom in on the individuals who, when zoomed out, contribute to a fully operating civilization. All of the citizens are moving parts that keep the civ running and the developments of the civ impact the lives of the citizens. For example, if I wanted a coastal civ, I could start working on the tech for sailing (prompted by the ruler) I could play as the citizens who are key to understanding the technology. And then I unlock the harbor, so I could also play as citizen who builds the harbor. Or maybe I could play as the citizen who builds the boats or the ones who go out to explore the seas.

Basically, I just want the mechanics of a civ/city builder combined with a life sim. We get kind of close to that with Crusader Kings, but it only focuses on political dynasties, so still not quite what I’m looking for (although it is a fun game and I enjoy it a lot).

sounds great! I am a Civ V player though i recently reinstalled Civ 4 for giggles (and because Netherlands is WAY stronger a civ in 4 as in 5... Civ 5 Netherlands is weak...)

    No.
I want to be able to play as a character within a civ/city whose actions both influence and are influenced by the ever changing world around them. The reason I brought up CK is because it’s close to what I was trying to explain, except it’s thematic focus is narrower than what I would like. CK is not comparable to Sim City.

I don't know, it's still too early to tell, for both Paralives and TS5. I'll see how both games evolve in the future and then decide.

Well, @DanmanNefarius , I was think how cool it would be let's say a Sims CAS/Traits/Skills & maybe Occults to work in a pick your Ruler Civilization. Also, I was thinking a player could have a choice of not having a Ruler, but a Peasant to play with. The household could be either servants, advisors, family or all three & not limited to 8 or 20 in a household. The Sims Build Mode with Civilization Map can build whatever they want regardless of what the other Countries are Building. Oh, and the player can delete all rivals without going to war. ha, ha, ha. :D

ahh i see :) so basically an even bigger open world than what TS 3 had with multiple towns, each in other countries, to interact with and such! sounds really cool imo! i always did miss having the option to pick your own culture in the sims! always wanted to be an Impi warrior in the Sims  . then we can do some first person cowering when Arabian camel archers come to town  god the times where i get teamed because i rolled Arabia ..... good times hahaha

delete all players?? mehh i'll just roflstomp the ai's with impis or camels ghehehe especially in civ 5 the ai is terrible at war, even on deity

Wow, you've played Deity @DanmanNefarius . I can't even play past Chieftain without losing my Country & that's with turning off Barbarians & such. And I've been a player since a kid when my Dad first got Civilization on 3 1/2 floppy disks.
However, getting back to Sims 4. I have made a Cleopatra, an Empress Wuu, an Empress Theadora, a Mark Anthony & a
Julius Caesar sim in my Sims 4.

i did. the only hard part about it is that the ai gets loads of bonusses to happiness and two settlers at the start. combat-wise the ai has no clue how to fight though (focus firing fortified blocker units instead of ranged ones killing theirs, slamming melee into fortified units on hills and stupid stuff like that. so once you catch up in tech (which is pretty doable since the ai also doesn't seem to know what buildings to prioretize like universities and rushing national college) you can turn the tide on them. barbs also tend to slow down the ai btw so they are useful to have around once you can handle them properly (farming CS influence and getting promos on you units is also a reason to keep barbs around). the ai also loves to build useless wonders which also tends to slow them down a lot

I promise to update this with any new information about either game if we get any more details for them. Unfortunately, there is nothing new much about Paralives other than their last video about build mode....again. Nor nothing as exciting about any type of gameplay secrets and or object secrets and or anything. It's all been about the build mode for months it seems. And of course, nothing about TS5 at all, other than our own speculation of what it might mean for the future of The Sims when we read CEO and other people's interviews of where they want to take The Sims in the future and or newer job positions open for it. Nothing really from either one. :/ Don't they know, you have to strike the iron while it's hot or they lose fan interest and maybe no return.

The Paralives discord is full of information on the status of the game, including what gameplay ideas are being considered and the progress of the development. It is a very active server. But they’re still in pre-alpha so there’s much more to go.

The development on Paralives has been much more transparent than the development of TS5.

I think it's way too soon to tell. There is no official word about The Sims 5 from EA. Right now we don't even know if there will be one. And while we have much more information on Paralives, it still hasn't been released so we really don't know what it will be like. There is just way too much speculation of what may or may not happen and people want to plan around them as if they're sure things.

I have to be honest, I think it's a mistake as I've seen that done before. A developer throws an idea out there, a player runs with it as if it's fact, and soon word spreads that it's a guarantee when it really was just an idea - a potential direction they might go - and possibly not even from anyone associated in an official capacity with the development team of either game - just some random player with an idea. For the people that like the "idea" it feels like a betrayal by the development company if it doesn't materialize when the game goes live or people get turned off at the thought of it and just get upset because it doesn't interest them and don't even bother with playing it. Either way though - it wasn't ever a for sure thing and even if it was, the devs may have taken the game in a different direction after the statement was made because of some new idea that the development team liked more and would make the whole thing come together much better. That's not to say that we can't say what we want to see happen - we just can't be so caught up in it that if it doesn't happen the way we want we get upset about it.

But if both do get released, I will definitely get The Sims 5. I won't like the multiplayer aspect of it if they went that route and really am wondering how they will handle certain aspects such as how they will resolve the issues of those wanting family orientated play and those wanting more adult play such as one would see in Second Life. It just is very insidious and creeps in where you are least expecting to find it.

Also how they will handle mods - especially if those mods give people advantages over other players who are not using them. Most online games have rules about that kind of thing.

If Paralives has gameplay that interests me then I will play that too. It's not an either/or situation for me. I have many games on the go right now - The Sims (in any computer format) is just one of them.

Ohh trust me, EA will go for a sims MMO if they can and there isn't too much backlash about it.

The have a tendency to not care one bit about the players and thus will not bother catering to everyone but do extensive research what the potential cash cows want so they can squeeze every penny out of them.

mods? they'll probabely pull a Bethesda Fallout 76 on us and put mods behind a paywall as in private servers or something! trust me, when it comes to monetizing their games EA is extremely creative and they will grab every single opportunity to put more monetization and paywalls in a game!

I was thinking after I wrote my post that they could do it like the Player Studio in Everquest 2. I am not sure how it all worked exactly but I know players could create things and submit it to the development team. If it was accepted it would be sold under the "Player Studio" category of the in world Marketplace where people could buy it for station cash or daybreak coins or whatever they are calling it now lol. I am not sure but they may have even received a percentage of the sales of their items. So the mod builders here could benefit but I think they would not have free reign to create whatever they want and distribute it as they do now. It being accepted may be on the condition that it meet rating standards. That's where people could run into problems with using 3rd party mods. But they also could treat it like normal expansions too. You may be able to see traces of it, or items from it but you won't be able to access it yourself unless you purchased it somehow.

I don't doubt at all that if they wanted to go that route again (whatever happened to The Sims Online?) then they would find a way.

I don't know, I love Maxis, but I don't want a TS5 MMO and might have to jump ship and go with Steam's game.
The Paralives discord is full of information on the status of the game, including what gameplay ideas are being considered and the progress of the development. It is a very active server. But they’re still in pre-alpha so there’s much more to go.

The development on Paralives has been much more transparent than the development of TS5.

This is all true...about the discussions and what they think about doing, but as of yet, they don't show much more than build features even to patreons nor confirm that yes, this, this or this will be in the game. They have been much more transparent this is true and to the general public, too. However, the game is still in 'pre-alpha' after three years of work, and trying to get more developers but really I'm starting to believe this is all about just prototyping a game in the Unreal engine and selling that info (from donations) and that be the end of it. I'm staring to doubt the validity of it. But maybe because I'm impatient. lol

That's not to say that we can't say what we want to see happen - we just can't be so caught up in it that if it doesn't happen the way we want we get upset about it.

we will see i guess, but you can rest assured that if it's online sims that it will be ridden with scummy monetization scemes. we are talking about EA after all, the most notorious greedy corporation of them all when it comes to unethical business practices, and yes! they deserve every bit of backlash they got. nobody else would defend child gambling to the point where they take governments to court (and utterly fail) to keep their predatory and unethical gambling in FIFA Ultimate Team

This is why I have remained skeptical all along. Not about the sincerity of the Paralives dev team (I think it's a team now?), but about their ability to execute a fully functional game. I hope they do figure it all out, and in a sufficiently reasonable time to be a viable competitor in this market segment.
