Your choice of Leslie reminded me of a funny story about a guy whose name was Dana, and I said, "At least your middle name isn't Leslie, right?" but...that WAS his middle name! OOPS. Seriously though, we need to reclaim male names that have been thrown over to the other side, or at least recognize that they are gender-neutral now and that that's fine for guys, because there's a one-way, lopsided stigma around a guy having a name that has come to be associated with girls, whereas girls being named traditionally masculine names, is considered somehow helpful to them professionally later in life (which actually happens, due to rampant sexism). So much needs fixing. We could start with recognizing that Dana, Gayle, Leslie, Tracy, Stacy, Laverne, Shirley, Corey, Beverly, more recently, Avery, Skylar or Skyler, and many others, were and are, valid masculine names. And then address why it is that anything associated with a girl is stigmatized, and why "boy" names on girls are considered advantageous. It's very telling of our society that that is the case.

Wait, you mean to say Leslie is a girl's name traditionally? I always thought it was guy's name cuz I had a school mate who's a boy with that name. 😂
Kyle.
No, Leslie is traditionally a masculine name, but had become, in the US, far more popular as a feminine name in the second half of the 20th Century, with a trend toward using any masculine name ending in a vowel instead of a consonant, as a feminine name instead. Parents generally perceive using masculine names for a girl , as bestowing an advantage on her, whereas they tend to see bestowing feminine names on a boy, a disadvantage to him. Once a masculine name like Beverly, starts getting used on girls enough, it becomes associated with the feminine, and is therefore stigmatizing to use on a boy.
This demonstrates the power and depth of embedded cultural misogyny.
