Some of you may recall a couple of years ago we introduced a ‘sideline’ to BuildnShare called The Hawthorne Project.

This is a Sim challenge which ultimately leads to a BuildnShare build challenge.

Create a Sim/family who have hit on hard times and need accommodation.

State your case and tell your story on the entry form found here on page 1.

The judges will vote for who they think deserves the build and it will be incorporated into the BnS challenges.

Read more and submit your entries here.

You have just sat back down behind your desk opposite the elderly couple when the man speaks.
“We heard how you helped our friends when their homes flooded, and hope you can help us too,” Robin Nestlehut begins.
“I would love to help. Tell me what I can do for you,” you request, imagining that they must have lost their home in a similar natural disaster.
“It’s nothing like you must be thinking, please forgive us,” Robin’s wife, Wren, speaks up. “We have a big old farmhouse and a large farm to go with it.”
“Unfortunately, we can’t keep it up ourselves anymore and none of our children are interested in coming home to take it over, so we have to sell.” Robin looks away wistfully for a moment, then seems to brighten. “But we’ve decided to use the opportunity to downsize. We would like a small house with a small yard, which will be easier for us to care for.”
“Two bedrooms would be nice, one could serve as both a guest room and a hobby room,” Wren adds. “We’ll need two bathrooms as well.”
“Our favorite room in the farmhouse was the sunroom, so we would prefer a sunroom in the new house,” Robin requests.
“I think we can work with that. I hope you love your new home just as much as your old one,” you say.

    The Brief:
    Budget: 40,000
    The house needs:
At least 2 beds and 2 baths
One room must double as a guest room and hobby room.
    A sunroom
The usual kitchen, living and dining areas.

Sims Challenge: Create Robin and Wren Nestlehut and show them enjoying their new home. Be sure to show all of their outfits in the slideshow.

Room challenge; create the guest room/hobby room. Budget: 10,000

Challenge due Wednesday, March 31, 2021, no later than 23:59:59 New York Time/EST.

Question, is the budget 40,000 with or without the lot cost?

I hope "without lot cost" because I am almost done.

Oh :( Thank you. ♥ I am done. I used a lot of debug items and built furnitures, but spent all 40,000. :( I'll try to delete some items.

SIMS 4 LOT NAME: Cottage Am See in Windenburg

ENTRY DETAILS: The Nestlehuts much prefer nature over electronics and so there really aren’t any in the home, other than an old jukebox that Robin rescued from a closing diner. When building the house, they took location into careful consideration. They wished to have some privacy while still being close to a fishing hole. They were ecstatic to discover that their home would have a small pond of their own! With Wren’s joy of knitting, they knew they would have to double their small guest room as a knitting room as well. Wren loves to rock in her chair slowly while reminiscing or working on her latest project. In addition to the firepit out back, there is also a large fireplace inside the home. What can I say, sometimes the elderly get cold? Besides, Robin loves to nap on the couch in front of a raging (and contained) fire.

Alright! So I FINALLY figured out I had to change my keyboard layout to querty (messing up my entire game) to actually be able to use the free camera, I finally made some nice pictures! :D

ENTRY DETAILS: I built a mid-century bungalow for the couple of empty nesters. I had to use basegame only, since it is all I have. Could have used a few extra simoleons to finish it off super nice... Anyway, I didn't want to compromise on the look of the house too much and give it a nice mid-century styled look. The main living/kitchen area is open-plan, but cozy with brown and orange colors. The bedrooms are relaxing and light colored, all with plenty of light and a view of the community garden. the guest bedroom doubles as an art studio and the outside garden is not high-maintenance, but pretty and relaxing. I did add blinds to the bedrooms, but no curtain to the rest of the house for budget reasons and the fact that basegame curtains are fairly dumb... lol

    ENTRY DETAILS:

To make the Nestlehuts, who used to live in a farmhouse, feel more at home, I chose a traditional architectural style (double gallery house) and a countrified interior design style (farmhouse/craftsman) for Nestlehut Nook.

As the Nestlehuts’ favourite room in their old house was the sunroom, the facade of Nestlehut Nook has been decorated in bright, cheery shades of red, white and yellow.

Finally, given that the Nestlehuts used to own a farm, I added some nature-y skill objects (like a bee box) so that they can stay connected to the great outdoors in their new home.

@ellejoyner, that is definitely a factor ;), but I had to adapt the coding too. Also, when I was a new member, usually I could post the links without spaces (though they didn't show as links, just text lol)

    ENTRY DETAILS:
Design Notes: Inspiration for this build came from this pic by Jim Mitchell that I found on Pinterest (Romantic Garden flowers worked great but totally didn't fit the budget lol, but I kinda got there!). I really wanted to try to get the lane winding up to the house - and I really wanted some sheep in the shot - so I had to use a 40x30 lot to get enough room and Summer Home was so perfect for my build I decided it was worth blowing nearly 10% of the limited budget on. Inspiration for the inside came from the dozens of similar cottages I’ve holidayed in over the years…I wanted that hodge podge, slightly mismatched but totally cosy feel. Plus of course I wanted to play with my new kitchen ;)
Playtested. Built with MOO but places & plays perfectly without. Some light TOOL use (mostly for plants on the slope as it’s quicker than raising it up from underneath) and started off as pack light but added a few more in just through low cost clutter to finish off. Thoroughly enjoyed this @BuildnShare, thank you! <3

Sales pitch:Welcome to the new home for retiring sheep farmers Robin and Wren Nestlehut. Ready to downsize but heartbroken at the thought of leaving the land that's been in the family for generations, we found the ideal solution - instead of selling it all, choose a couple of small fields to keep and build on! As it happened, there was an old tumble down cottage near to Robin's favourite fishing pond, so the Nestlehut's came to an agreement with the new buyer that they would keep this little parcel of land and we renovated the cottage to match all the clients requests.
Also, twice a week the new farmer will bring part of the beloved sheep flock to visit and they can graze in the pond field to keep the grass down....so the Nestlehut's get their small cottage with a small easy to maintain yard, get to visit with the sheep and get the benefit of retaining a second field in case they ever decide they've downsized too far and want a garden shed/play area for the grandkids etc.....perfect!!

ENTRY DETAILS: I tried to be as mindful as possible to the needs the Nestlehuts, due to the fact they are an elderly couple especially. Easily accessible areas (no stairs) and a warm climate were a must. I tried to make the exterior harmonious with the natural vegetation around the neighborhood as well as the surrounding buildings. I have started them out with a small succulent garden, but there is plenty of open space for them to develop a more extensive garden if need be.
