It would be fantastic if sims 4 introduced hobbies like in sims 2. It is so much fun having a home shop and selling all the things you craft at home on your sewing machine and pottery wheel.

I want that so much.....Hobbies and sports would be awesome. Winning competitions and contests with money prizes would be great.

I've recently had a lot of Sims with bees. It may take a while, but if you click "sell honey" each time the bees make honey, you can get some money out of it. I've added the jars of honey to my sim's inventory and sold them when I had around 8. Makes a decent amount of money.

    Hey there, crazy kids!

Spurred on by another discussion about townie finances, and reminded about how moving a townie into your household brings in $20k, it occurred to me that's a really easy way to make money. Ask a townie to move-in, then have them leave. Instant 20k! Repeat as necessary! :D

What are some non-traditional ways to make money that you use? And have you ever exploited townies for their money like explained above? Or will you try it now?

From manage worlds you can literally "move in" with anyone, regardless of whether your sim even knows them or not. So, can move in with someone with a giant house on a fancy lot, then move them out basically stealing their house, then bulldoze te lot and BOOM, instantly get a bunch of simoleans to do anything you like with! Or just keep your new giant house you got for free if you like it lol. I've done that a couple times, but try not to since it's kinda game breaking ;-P

For something less extreme, with the seasons pack there's that 100 simolean "storage bin" that lets you "rummage for decorations", which then gives you a bunch of holiday decorations for free...which you can then just sell, lol. In spring I got a whole set of decorative candles I could then sell in build mode for 150 a pop, which is quite a profit when you think about it haha.

And hey, if you just sell the rewards, you can basically get paid for going on dates ;-P. I had sim with the serial romantic aspiration that was basically his only source of income for a while, just getting gold star dates. He'd end them as soon as he hit gold, and go on three or four, or even five a day, and then sell his collection of VIP buckets. He could make a good 900-1000 simoleans a day that way.

If I am trying to make money without using cheats, I will sell my sim's paintings, publish books, craft and sell items, harvest and sell items, and sell off anything my sim has collected.

My husband was playing and took a cutting from a money tree, spliced it with another tree and you get the money fruit and then can continue to plant them...

I start a business and sell violins at 100% markup for $16k a piece. Takes about an hour in-game to make 16k. You can make a hundred grand in two Sims working days. I only use my Sim to sell. Haven't tried doing this by hiring people.

You can set a yard sale by buying a table, you'll need either city living, eco lifestyle or jungle adventure to get this table, theres also a painting wall selling display in city living aswell

I've played a "black widow" challenge, in which my sim would marry a man, make them have a little "accident", and then go out and marry again. (She was also in love with the Grim Reaper)

I don't know if it's a creative way to make money, but I often restrict jobs on my Sims. You know, if I see a Sim as a registered nurse, I tend to keep that sim there. If a Sim is a mid level tech guru, they stay there. I definitely don't let every sim have handiness, painting, writing, etc. to any significant "i can get rich" degree.

I have been known to download a Sim from the gallery, move them into a wealthy Sim’s home, go to CAS to delete the wealthy Sims from the household, and then proceed to steal all their stuff by selling it. Furniture, appliances, walls, everything on the lot. The funds go to the downloaded Sim’s household funds, and now they can afford a decent house with nice amenities, or whatever I want them to have.

    Sell nude photos.

No seriously. Get a photographer sim to photograph another sim in the nude, then sell the prints. Might as well show off the Sim body in all its beautiful glory, pixels and all.

Not exactly easy money or large amounts (no different to selling regular photos I guess) but it is a fun way of making money haha

I best I came across so far is insurance fraud. If you are a spell caster, you can burn an expensive item then you get an insurance payout. Then you use repairo to fix it.

Somehow, this is a good idea!

With high charisma you can ask for a Big Loan... you don't have to pay it back. I've had sims go on dates, earn a gold reward and sell it for 650 I think. I've done that move in with a townie bit lots of times. Mostly now i have some plants with high sellable outputs planted in areas accessible to any Sim, and Sims can harvest the birds of paradise flowers or globe fruits or whatever, take them home and plant them in a home garden for a jumpstart in a lucrative growing season. I'm a socialist at heart I guess o:)

I unfortunately got bored with that save very quickly, so I never got to that point. I meant for it to be a starcrossed lovers sort of thing; so she would only be able to see him whenever she killed somebody.

Not sure if it's really that creative, but I've never seen someone mention it, so...
I rolled the Education career for my Sim; however, I'm not letting her start working in that field until she has an Economics degree.
So up until now, she could only earn money by working part-time in retail and selling the honey she collects from her bee box...
Until I finally tried the "Collect Swarm" option and noticed I could send it to fetch gifts. So I tried that immediately, and now I just sell whatever the bees bring. I was lucky enough to get some seed packets once; used them immediately to start a garden. Hope that will keep her afloat until she can start working her dream job, haha.

@PsychoSimXX I have never ever tried out DJing, I'm gonna have to give that a go! I didn't even know it brought tips, I thought it was more of a hobby thing.

@Inna Minnit where is the best place to set up the yard sale please? I have a sim who wants to own a bakery but cannot yet afford it, she makes loads of baked goods and this would be perfect for her!

@TheGoodOldGamer thank you for this thread, there are some fab ideas here that I have never tried!

This isn't that creative, but I have to mention it anyway. Yesterday my sims was selling selvadoradan artifacts on the street sale table and he got 27k from one gold frog! I had the prices marked up to 200% (300% is the max).

Kleptomaniac trait. Just waltz into a nice expensive house, take a few things, and dip. Bam! Make bank.
