I hate how each expansion is such a stand alone thing even when it makes no sense. I want more cross over content between the features.
This would actually help sell more expansions since there would be increased value to owning everything.
Like expansions could have some features that only show up if owning another expansion pack too, but only if it relies on its gameplay mechanics.
Take the star wars expansion for example.
It should add the option for the movie star career to shoot a star wars movie, with star wars set and all.
Also it should add star wars themed robot appearances for the university robots.
Just two examples that really bother me with its absence.
But speaking in more general terms, take the university. I think it should be in the base game already to create a bigger education system with some jobs requiring a university diploma.
New careers added in later expansions, should all add to university, enabling new specialisations if need be or making them part of existing specialisations if possible.
And the magic expansion could allow for a unique magical university.
Either way we all know it's all about money with EA and this would obviously convince plenty of people to buy more expansions than they normally would since combinations would offer more content, allowing the game to be so much greater than the sum of it's parts.
But this would of course require them to plan ahead of time. But after 4 games they should know what features are most popular for expansions.

Well, I think they should at least make stuff back-wards compatible, and allow older packs to make use of newer packs content. Like being able to use all new activities as club actions. Or being able to use the kotatsu table in a restaurant. Or being able to knit a pet coat. Or having Get to Work and Snowy Escape would allow you to treat patients with sprained ankles in the hospital. Or, you know, swim in all rivers, lakes and oceans. In all these cases, you don't need to buy any additional packs, but if you have them, your gameplay is expanded even more.
It should be limited only to items that clearly require the other pack and nothing else. Like for example owning university and the star wars gamepack both only unlocks star wars droid parts for building your own robot and nothing else, aside from maybe some unique robot interactions if taking them to Batuu and them being able to interact with the new droid types.
Magic or lightsabers could also give new easier ways to fix the strangeville problem too, that would just be some new interactions.
Across the board it should mostly just be some new interactions, but where it makes sense it could unlock some extra content. That extra content would be only the stuff that has to do with main gameplay features of other expansions.
For example if expansion 1 adds a pool table to the game, expansion 2 could add a different looking pool table without it requiring expansion 1.
Something like that would not be a main feature. If they add a new trick shot to the pool table, that could be patched in to apply to any expansions containing a pool table, not requiring the newest.
But if expansion 1 adds interactive movie careers with sets of different genres and expansion 2 has a farm and western theme, that could unlock the ability to make western movies in expansion 1 using the costumes and items of expansion 2.
And the other way around, having expansion 1 could allow a farmer to get fame for growing a huge pumpkin or winning a baking contest.
Of course that is a bit more work, but I reckon for sims 5 they will have a roadmap of expansions and work ahead. While they might change the order of release of the first expansions based on what features might be harder to implement or what the players are requesting the most, the groundwork would be there.
They already know they will add seasons, pets, magic, vampires and university for example. Stuff like that is only a matter of time for any sims game. So they can plan ahead.
That's why a lot of people are hoping for Generations. The TS3 version added so much depth to life stages and relationships between Sims.
It sucks then how Politics is generally attached to San Myshuno, conservation is attached to *one* neighbourhood in Island Living and visual changes are only attached to Eco Life Style ie non interactive litter....to really play *my* story for "Knox" I have to ultimately break immersion and have him travel to locations specifically tied to those packs.
at least sims 4 did a much better job than sims 3 with this
