How To Make Festivals Fun?

Particularly the one in Island Living and Snowy Escape. In City Living there are tons of buyable fireworks and objects to interact with as a family. However in Snowy Escape for example and Island Living. It is a different story. The Festival of Light is just a....Bonfire with lights. Any ideas to spice things up?

Beats me. I don’t find anything about the festivals enjoyable or interesting.

I just let my sims socialise or leave them to do what they want at the festivals. The Sulani festivals are so bad that I rarely take my sims to them and the fact that they have no notifications means I never know when they happen.

    More unique activities would help.
    • The Festival of Lights really needs a bon odori, like the real festival it was based on.
    • Ice or snow sculpting would be great for the Snow Festival.
    • Maybe exclusive crafts or games for the Festival of Youth?

I think the festival of lights could of benefited from lighting lanterns and watching them float off into the sky. Idk if that is part of japanese culture but I've seen festivals do stuff like that.

For the kid festival there should of been game booths with prizes.

I like the ice sculpting idea for the snow festival. They could of even added an ice sculpting contest.

You know what I think would make the festival of youth more fun? If Yamachan would actually spawn so my sims kid could do the void critter game. :D

    Well, since you asked...

I find taking a large household of Vampires out for a mass feeding frenzy and some good mental gymnastics on mortals really spices things up. Getting as many Sims as you can to drop down, bum skyward is hilarious enough to take screenshots.

Take some Spellcasters and set everything you can on fire and turn festival goers into random objects. Or mess with their romantic preferences.

Sometimes it's funny to just take a couple of mean Sims who hate children to where the kids are -- like the Festival of Youth -- and let them scowl at the children and pick fights.

On a more mundane level, I did take a large group of friends on vacation who had gone to Uni together and they hung out for a bit at the ice festival. It's still hard to wrangle large groups, but at least it can keep you occupied. One of my Sims is mean so she woohooed one of the dudes after flirting with a different guy and made him miserable. Then she violently wrecked some kid's snowpal, lol. Just having one rotten apple in the bunch can make things interesting.

Honestly, the festivals almost seem like they're designed more for the player to watch than for the Sims to participate in. I tend to ignore them most of the time unless my Sims happen to be in the area.

Ice sculpting would have been great! It would bring a fun activity to get better at every time that you visit the festival. That's really the kind of gameplay we need.

Besides some quality of life updates, like alerts for Sulani's festivals (I have yet to catch one because of that; I never live in the main town), I think the best thing is to have something that makes them more unique and/or overarching goals.

I like the idea of festivals anyway, but I rarely have much incentive to visit the same one more than once with a family. CL's festivals at least have the food stalls for recipe collecting as an overarching goal, but in general one spice festival win and there is no need to go (one of my favorite festivals, though, but it is pretty well all the same). The slight exception for me is the flea market festival just because I like to see the random stock for sale, but I would not really call it the most fun festival even if I attend it often. They are all fun for novelty's sake and they do have some gameplay, but it only goes down hill after CL's.

I think SE tried the overarching goal thing with the Simmi collection, but it just is not as motivating for me. Plus I think there may be some Simmis that cannot be found through the festival route, which kind of defeats it as a festival goal. I do enjoy the atmosphere of SE's festivals, but they do need more to do than eat and socialize. I agree ice sculpting or something for the Snow Festival. I would love if we actually got to release laturns or something else interactable for the Festival of Light. Some kind of traditional dance would have been amazing. It might be kind of one note, but I do enjoy the voidcritter aspect of the Festival of Youth. I would have loved to have seen it expanded, but at least it has it.

As for IL's... I really need alerts to catch them to critique them. However, I imagine they are light on gameplay. Something like a fishing contest or anything would at least give us something to do. Maybe for collecting seashells or diving. Even a sandcastle contest. Something.

I enjoy the CL festivals, but have little to none experience of the ones you mentioned. I'm sad to hear there's not much to do in SE festivals. I'm thinking you could bring some items with your sims like a yoga mat or an easel. You mentioned the festival of lights has a bonfire? Normally you can burn things in a bonfire, so you could use the festival to destroy some bad memories maybe.

    I actually used this mod
    https://scarletsmods.com/2019/09/04/island-event-notifications-enabled/

I feel like Island Living was kind of empty at first. I was surprised when I learned that there are Island Festivals. I downloaded that mod to check them all out and.... They are boring with just one or two items and that's it. The Family Island Event was the most dissapointing, It just spawn non interactable giant balloon and a swing. A Swing. That's it. Part of the reason I make this post. I want to make them more interactable or something. maybe more fun

Thanks For the Ideas. I think I gotta go open my Supernatural Save File for this ideas <3

I'm not sure, I felt the same about the festival of light, I did all activities that were listed, I looked at the pretty lights in the river, took some screenshots, wished at the tree, I tried the unique food, I bought a unique outfit and I sacrificed something at the gravestones. That was about it. It was okay I guess.

Something that enhanced it a bit was that I had given all townies makeovers, I also increase the amount of sims in the zone so more people attended and walked around. It doesn't add any gameplay but it looks nice... I did the same with the festivals in Sulani.

Yeah, the City Living ones are decent but the rest are just boring. If my sim is living in the neighborhood while it's happening it's nice to have them around to make it feel like somethings happening and have more sims around, but otherwise there's nothing to do. It's just a pretty area with some stands and a bonfire.

Same as everything in Sims 4 packs, it looks nice but doesn't add much to the game

I forgot island living had festivals. Do we get notifications like we do with city living? Anyways I don't think there is a way to make them fun. I do like taking my sims to meet people or taking the family out to eat and watch the randomness as they interact.
