I hope it ends when the babies are complete, with more complete activities. When we finally have farms, more supernatural creatures, like fairies, werewolves or zombies!

I want to remind you that GTAV is older than TS4 and we are still waiting for any confirmation of GTA VI. Whats more GTA needs continuation more than TS because this game can not be expanded or updated as TS4 can be. A lot of things makes me think that TS4 will be much longer with as than previous generations.

GTA V is actually good game though, with amazing working gameplay. Not buggy and broken like TS4.

Maybe the new EA Downloader (replacing Origin?) is a hint of when we might get TS5 or at least hear something for real. Maybe some of EA games for the future might require a less intrusive downloader that Origin had become. Or better online servers and buttons to click. lol It's in beta for us to try, maybe with it we get a new announcement for a new game on console (PS5) and pc.

They've never made the iterations compatible with each other. However, CC makers have often converted objects from one iteration to another for free.

They've always left previous iterations "as is," but modders have always stepped in where the devs left off, so even though devs will move on to TS5, there will be modders and CC makers still working on TS4, just like with TS3 and TS2.

A good consolation to ending TS4's run is that the mods for it no longer need to keep updating and in a sense, the game becomes "stable" as time goes on and people find ways to fix its bugs or find work-arounds for them.

In other words, it's not the end of the world when an iteration ends. The modders and CC makers, and even its players with the stories and challenges they make up for it will keep it fresh.

Yeah, I know they haven't but that was years ago and doesn't mean that things need to be done in the exact same way again. I don't play with mods or CC so while I'm aware that's a benefit for others, we all take a different approach and want different things.

Some things can be fixed in this version. Some complaints aren't universally shared. For example, in my current game, I don't really have a need for story progression. I enjoyed TS3 while I played it but prefer some aspects of TS4. While I liked the open world, I didn't really like centering my play around one household per save. I remember switching saves a lot which I don't do now.

I'm not going to say whether or not I'll get a hypothetical game about which no actual details have been shared, but I actually also think that Paralives looks interesting.

I do think a transition that incorporates more of what people are asking for makes more sense than starting all over. I'm not asking for everything that others are though I agree with some common complaints. I do think the sims could be more reactive, that the game could be less childish, that some aspects of the game need updating, etc. I don't necessarily want to play in the same way that others do though.

I also have sims with several years of development in terms of story lines, so, yes, just throwing a new version at me doesn't mean I'll switch immediately or ever. A transition to a compatible new version with a lot of flexibility might interest me.

This is wishful thinking, but maybe 2021 or 2022.

With new console systems coming out, I would happily welcome a new base with more depth in its core and foundation with the inclusion of much wanted features, expansion of creative tools, and vastly improved Sims in AI and bigger worlds. 🙂👍

By that time, the game will be totally broken and unplayable. Sims 4 has overstayed its welcome..soon it will be time to move on to Sims 5.

All I want before it ends is the bugs to be sorted but some more building items like circular walls etc would be appreciated.

I have a feeling that its going to be 10 years old when Sims 4 finishes its production cycle. We have a long way to go, and I remember that another guru said again that they have 2/3 years of content planned again. No, I'm not talking about Grant. He said that about 2/3 years ago, and someone else said it again.

@jcp011c2 makes no sense for them not to end the game with a EP released as the last content.

Into the Future is an EP and was the last pack made for TS3.

I personally don't see cars ever coming, how would that work with neighborhoods surrounded by water? Be stuck in just that neighborhood? Build bridges? What if the neighborhoods with no roads?

I don't see babies ever being freed either (although I hope I'm wrong). People have been asking for that since the beginning and 6 years later they have yet to do it.

They have stated before spiral staircases are "too hard". One Guru in an interview just recently stated something to the effect of "Look around at the modding community, if they haven't done it yet that means it's hard to do"

The NPCs I could see them adding, now whether those would be base game free updates or come in some pack that's the question.

I could see them doing a Winter Vacation world, or a Casino lot with one functional game play item, I don't see them ever making a casino with 3-4 "casino games" with animations tho.

And, I for sure don't see them ever adding any type of color wheel (unless it was forjust the skin tones) and not for other CAS/B&B items, they would have to redo every texture for that, there has to be channels for that in the texture. TS3 textures had sections of it separated and put on a channel that could be recolored/retextured. TS4 textures are one single texture. I just don't see that happening, not this late in the game.

But, hopefully we'll get some of that stuff when TS5 releases.

With the ability to manipulate stairs where they don't go straight up/down, I'm not sure if spiral stairs are really needed. It's taken me a bit of practice but I think I've got the hang of it for the most part.

I think we might see at least some sort of baby update, if they can figure out how to deal with saves that have the object babies still in existence. I don't think we'll get everything people want (changing tables, strollers, etc.) but I think we'll see the ability to remove the baby from the bassinet and take it to another part of the house, with a floor mat object where the baby can be placed. Maybe additional interactions like helping the baby roll over, play peekaboo, things like that. Oh, and ability to give the baby a bath in the sink a la Sims 2.

They could do a Casino venue type in a GP, along with different game play features (slots, table games) -- we had two different Store packs with casino items in Sims 3. Or instead of a specific casino venue, they could do like they did with Bowling Night and you simply add the casino items to a bar/lounge/nightclub venue and Sims will be attracted to play. That might be an even better solution; a small dive bar could have a couple of slot machines off in a corner, or you could do a full-on Vegas type showroom with a performer doing their thing while other Sims are gambling.

It sounds like consensus is that the next pack is going to be some sort of winter vacation -- the question is will there be resorts or just the usual four or five rental lots (like Granite Falls or Selvadorada)? Maybe an extra lot for an in-town bar and a couple of empty lots for building or adding a restaurant or nightclub/lounge. (Since camping is problematic with Seasons, I've put a restaurant on the campground lot in Granite Falls.) If done right, a winter vacation pack could offer some great game play options for active Sims (I tend to be a bit of a couch spud, so conversely I like playing active Sims).

I hope it doesn’t come out within the next three years at least, but for ulterior reasons.

    First, hardware.
This one is straightforward, DX12 Ultimate capable GPUs are going to proliferate over the next 3 years. If industry murmurings are correct, GPU manufacturers will be moving to an annual release cadence, meaning “minimum specification” in two or three years’ time might actually deliver a palatable experience relative to what we have today.

    Second, software.
There are very important and revolutionary technologies coming out currently with next-gen consoles. Concerning Microsoft at least, it has been their goal since 2015 (based on a DirectX 12 Ultimate presentation I watched), to unify PC and Xbox from a software standpoint. Giving developers the opportunity to develop code for both at the same time. If they get better at developing for Xbox, they are simultaneously ready for deployment on PC.

Overall, it’s going to take time for them to get used to the features DX12 Ultimate brings and to optimise for them, to deliver a truly next gen Sims experience.

Case in point: GTA IV and GTA V were developed for the same generation, but behold what Rockstar Games was able to accomplish by the time they released GTA V due to familiarity with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360's hardware.

I think somewhere between 2022 and 2025, earlier being more likely than later if TS4 doesn't get itself together. The recent packs have been pushing the fanbase further and further away. If they keep on not giving us what we want, they'll probably be forced to stop working on TS4 since people won't want to buy DLC anymore.

I honestly feel done with TS4. I want TS4 to end, since I've given up hope that it will ever reach its full potential since the devs seem to refuse to actually improve it. But I also hate that I've spent so much money on this game, yet it isn't worth that price. The game needs to be heavily updated and bug-fixed before the end for it to be even close to kinda worth-it.

Regarding DLC, there are many themes and things that I still want in TS4, but I honestly doubt that we'll be getting many of these very standard things unless big changes are made in the directing of the game. I would honestly rather have substantial updates to existing DLC than get new DLC at this point (not that that's likely to happen).

Farming is absolutely essential to me, though, and the last EP I'm holding up hope for. Not for new crops and new ways of growing things - for the hobbies and activities that would give a point to farming in the first place. If we don't get many farming-related hobbies like canning, jamming, preserving, nectar-making and crafting with produce/flowers/collectables, I would pretty much want to sue.
Furthermore, I want woodworking to be its own separate skill and heavily updated, as well as a sculpting skill (stone etc) that allows me to make busts, profiles etc of sims. A hotel/resort/B&B system and a futuristic city world are additions I greatly wish for in TS4, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get them.

The fundamental problems with TS4 such as lack of personality, boring life stages, general meaninglessness etc. are things that need to be fixed through substantial updates to the base game, which I honestly doubt will happen to a satisfactory degree, if at all. Of course I want a Generations and Relationships EP, but the BG alone should already contain meaningful gameplay for these mechanics - forcing us to pay for it to have it at all is robbery. TS3 Generations EXPANDED family gameplay - it was already there in BG to begin with.

TS4 has forced me so much to make up elaborate stories, pretend there are thoughts behind my sims' actions etc instead of the game giving them life that I could probably keep on playing that way. I always did this to a degree in TS3, though of course only to have a general idea of what directions to steer my sims, not to rely on it constantly for any kind of enjoyment. I could keep on painstakingly setting up events and building lots to imagine that my sims are going through a mid-life crisis, have consequences for doing badly in school etc. That is why I no longer view Generations as essential - TS4 refuses to deliver, so I must in my head.
But the basic hobbies that I NEED aren't present - I can't pretend that my sims are canning their tomatoes, making and aging nectar and crafting soap from the roses in their garden.

As an example, if I want to play my sims living truly off the grid, technology free, it's impossible bc the game forces me to use the fridge:
    • the chests that would work perfectly for this for some reason cannot store food
    • the fridge causes crops/produce to never spoil despite them not being preserved
    • a fridge is required for me to be able to cook food, even if I have the produce in my inventory.
This breaks immersion for me bc:
    • there is no point in having seasonal crops since all of them stay fresh infinitely. There is no "abundance" of a certain crop each season, encouraging me to make feasts with them and preserve the remainder for the rest of the year, which is challenging and fun
    • there is little fun in gardening in the first place, since the crops are pretty much useless outside of making recipes cheaper and there are practically no hobbies using these crops/produce
    • "adding ice" to a fridge doesn't make it technology-free, since it's the fridge itself that is modern technology, nevermind the electricity it uses
    • even in saves where it would be okay to use electricity-free fridges, where did the ice come from in the middle of summer?
And even if they did make it so that chests could finally store crops, it would still be a pain to use bc all chests on the lot share their inventory. If I want to organize my chests nicely into storing different types of crops, it's impossible. The chest that came with Discover University doesn't count bc it's a stand-alone item that doesn't fit in with any sort of farming/rustic theme.

This might seem like a drawn-out rant, but honestly it just shows how far-reaching TS4's problems are. Fix one thing and there are still 10 other problems that render the fix inadequate, or 10 new problems that arise via bugs. EA/Maxis seems to only care about producing new DLC so they can get money from it. Broken packs are too much effort for no direct payment to fix. The BG is too broken to patch up with band-aids and it would take too much resources without direct payment to rehaul.
Will TS4 be left in its broken state forever once EA/Maxis have moved on? Heartbreakingly, probably. Until the community refuses to buy any more DLC, they'll probably delay this realization by the community as much as possible, dangling a carrot of hope until we've gone over the cliff edge.

Hopefully 2021. Doesn't seem like the devs are interested in making EPs that fans want like Farming probably because of an internal plan for Sims 5 to be released soon.

I've only been playing the Sims 4 for two years and hope the Sims 4 will continue for a few more years. I'm still excited for the new packs/updates and have a lot of ideas for my sims. But I can also understand that players who have been around for longer are waiting for the Sims 5.
