I don't think I've ever gone and bought a new piece of designer clothing, but I have found a few vintage pieces of exceptional quality from a consignment shop. One example was an oxford button-up shirt with the kind of care in the details, hand stitching and all, that you don't find in my price range these days, and I love that shirt to the point I'm afraid to wear it, because I can't easily replace it. It's so amazingly comfortable yet flattering and polished. So it hangs there, too nice to wear.
I wish there were a place short of a two-hour drive, where hubs and I could go dancing without instantly being the center of attention, but a shirt like that here, would stick out like a sore thumb, (Carhartt and mud boots are more the dress code here) and people would have even more to stare at, so it stays, ironically, in the closet. One of these days, we'll just have to make a trip to Boston again and maybe then I can whip that shirt out.

I definitely know what it's like to ironically not wear a shirt that's really important by the way. I have a blouse from Abercrombie I bought from a location in one of the Las Vegas casinos, and although it isn't expensive per se, the extravagant interior of the casino building and the great memories I attach to it keep me from wearing it out.
I did step in once, when a very beautiful guy who was also a DJ and raver, was angling in on my girlfriend (by that I mean friend who was a girl, not a romantic interest of mine) and I knew very well that it was a game to him, but to her, she took his attention seriously and was at a crisis from it, because she and her boyfriend were seriously committed. So I was at a party at her house, and he was there, and I watched him in action, then took him aside and gave him a 'talkin-to' that altered his trajectory. He wasn't a bad person; he meant no harm. He was just having fun, and thought it was the same for her. He was used to flirting and being flirted with, by girls, guys, basically anyone with eyes because he was drop-dead gorgeous and charismatic too, but I would have had no problem breaking something, if he had actually intended to hurt her, and was relieved to find that he actually hadn't realized what he was doing. He stopped toying with her after that, and she married her high school sweetheart a couple of years later, and they are still together today, had kids and all.
He was kind of freaked out by the candidness of the talk, and I felt kind of bad about that, but he later said he was just as glad that he hadn't hurt her, because that wasn't his goal, but neither was a relationship. He just had never considered before, that some people take flirting to heart, especially when they are not part of the "scene".

Unfortunately, no. It feels even worse, because now my hubs has taken to going out at 5 in the morning and doing an insane number of sprints up a very steep and long hill, then like 30 pushups. I roll out of bed bleary-eyed no earlier than 8, sometimes as late as 10, can only do 4 hill sprints before I feel like I'm dying, and can only do about 22 pushups. And he has a sixpack now, and awesome blood pressure and resting heart rate, so I guess I ought to try harder, since I have none of those things.
