When A Mistake Makes You Feel Totally Silly

«1
I have set up a holiday for each Sunday of the month. Got the idea from another player and it generally works out very well. Except for this gaming session. For some odd reason, my Sim didn't have the attend holiday services anywhere in his phone. I checked all seven of the family members on this lot. Then it dawned on me, perhaps the latest mod was interfering. So, I save the game and then exit. I removed the latest mod, deleted the localthumbcache.package and then got back into the game. It still wasn't working.

Hm, I'm thinking. What if I delete the holiday and set it up again?

Well, you can't do that in the midst of the holiday, but you can edit. Boy, are my cheeks red. LOL In edit mode, I quickly realized the problem. Under the section of 'goals' (of which for this one I have only attend services) I'd forgotten to place that. I took a moment to look at the next three Sundays. Yep, forgot to add the goal to those, too.

I just get going too fast, sometimes. So fast, that this time I totally messed up!

Please share your silly oversights that make you want to laugh out loud!

All those times I've mixed up Tuesdays with Thursdays. xD Also, I was waiting for an event to take place at 7 PM. The clock struck 7, nothing happened. I saved, quit and restarted the game, resumed, hoping that would fix it, but nope. Still nothing. Then I realize it's 7 AM. I miss the 24 hour clock. =P

Most of mine happened when I was still learning the game (I've only been playing since March). I remember dressing my Sims in CAS, and I kept wondering why they weren't wearing the clothes I dressed them in? It wasn't until later that I realized they dress according to season/occassion, and that I could change those too.

But the biggest mistake is a real doozy. When I first started, I thought that every time I wanted to play TS4, I had to start a new game (I thought it meant "new session"). I would start a new game and wonder why I couldn't play the same household as last time

Early on, I didn’t realize there were separate library and gallery, so I was saving all my crummy half-finished stuff to the gallery! And I didn’t know there was a household inventory, so I would end up with a bunch of stuff in there that never got touched.

@Stutum I had done the same thing not too long ago. I sent my sim to the nightclub. When he got there, there was no DJ and no one was showing up. What? It was a Friday night at 8 PM and no DJ? I had him wait. And wait. And wait. I couldn’t figure it out. I sent him back home, then sent him back to the nightclub. Still no DJ. Quit the game and went back in. Nope. No Dj. Sent him home and realized it was 8 AM not PM. I felt so stupid. I’m sure my sim thought I was losing it. Lol.

Wow! I never thought to set up simulating my sims going to church by making it a holiday, even though my sims "attend services" on Christmas Eve, Easter, etc. I guess this is my "red cheeks moment". Next time I get to play, I am totally doing this! Thanks for sharing your LOL moment, it's given me a Eureka! one! 🤣

@kristenleighwhite So glad I could "give back". Like I stated, another player said that's what they do. :)

I don't mean to derail the thread, but where do you find churches? Is that something that's in the gallery? I never even knew such a thing existed in TS4

It's a Rabbit hole. It came with Seasons along with the ability for us to create holidays of our own making.
For me it's just sending them to church. That's satisfying in and of itself. It's particularly amusing when my teen Global Superstar gets a cellphone call right in the middle of services. :open_mouth: I had a priest, years ago, who when somebody's phone went off in the middle of Divine Liturgy, stood still and then just turned in the direction of the noise. A friend of mine who was in the Choir, was busily rooting around in her purse to quickly turn it off. I thought she was going to die of embarrassment!

He later let us know there was no place for phones in church. (Can't have them in the courthouse, either, so no biggie.) He let us all know that if a person absolutely must receive a call or text, to put the phone on vibrate. (We did have a few doctors in the parish.)

@Sadiesue That's funny. xD I didn't feel very smart when I realized either, only when the mail carrier showed up I suddenly understood. xD

When I started playing, I had no idea I could play the other households. I thought I could only play the sim I created.

The game should have caught that for you. It should have reminded you to set a goal so the event would show up for your Sim. It seems badly implemented if the game doesn't remind you to set up what this event is supposed to do but still allow you to choose it. Bad programming and not really your fault.

Silly mistakes, I sometimes queue up stuff for Sims to do while I have the game paused. Then forget I had it on pause, lol, and sitting here wondering why they aren't moving. lol

A rabbit hole is where your Sims disappears from wherever they were when you send them and then return some few Sim-minutes later. In other words, you don't get to follow them there.

I've done that whole sitting and waiting bit, too. But, what threw me is that I got the normal notice for the holiday on the day it was supposed to appear. Something is not quite right. I should pull my Mods folder and do a game repair. This is the first time I've ever faced this. But, then again, I failed to add any goals to achieve. Guess I've never done that before, either, to expect the game to 'catch it' as you say. And I agree. It does catch other things …

More than once, I have accidentally changed the camera to Sims 3 one and then started panicing when I can't rotate with mouse.

I take such long breaks (as many others I binge-play for 4 months and then don't play for 4 months or so) that I forget things like controls. I had to google how to take screenshots when I started a new game a few days ago.

I played Sims3 up until a couple of months prior to the release of Sims4. Once I learned there would be loading screens, I decided to reacquaint myself with them so there wouldn't be so much of a shock after so many years without them. Bouncing between the three games can confuse the mind. I would try to do something with the controls that only the other two games would allow. Oi! I finally gave up trying. Now, I only play Sims4. I have mods that have given me back a singer Sim, and a few other things. I'm quite content to play it for hours on end as many days in a week that I can.

One time my sim invited her boyfriend over to her house. They were making out on the lawn when she asked him if he wanted to woohoo, to which he responded with a happy dance, so she went inside. He stayed on the lawn and the action canceled. I was like what the heck?! So she went back outside and asked him again, got another happy dance and once again she went inside he stayed out and the action canceled. This went on for like a sim hour and 5 attempts later after exiting and restarting the game, still a no go. I finally gave up, asked him to spend the night, and tried to get them to watch tv together. He wouldn't go inside. This is when I remembered my sim had the door locked for everyone but herself *facepalm*

I was playing today and my Sim was constantly telling everyone something and they would start crying and the Sim would start laughing. I wasn't thinking much of it, really. I figured maybe I gave that sim a trait that was causing him to give 'fake bad news' right? But I couldn't find it. I even stopped the game and looked up how to find the hidden traits that Sims have sometimes. Nothing. I was yelling at my Sim because he had made 2 children cry in a row. OMGosh. So, then I was like what the heck? I started scanning the NAPs. When in doubt, look at the NAPs. Apparently, the Fun Loving Community NAP makes mischief a popular thing. Once I figured it out I couldn't decide if I wanted to repeal it or not. LOL. Still can't... but my Sim is making kids cry!!! Oooh, maybe I need to put Mrs. Crumplebottom in this neighborhood.

And, not an in-game mistake, but... I changed my forum icon to my Sim-me and then a few hours later I was going through and couldn't find any of my comments, even by going from my profile page. I had a conspiracy theory bigger than Strangerville going through my mind before I saw the new icon I had made. And even then I was trying to figure out why someone else was using my Sim-Me avatar, until I realized that was my Avatar and my username, and my comment. It's been a rough time in the JoRN1414 brain today.

Oh, now there's a NPC Sim I truly miss. Sounds like you're having fun.

The whole security gate-locking thing. I've all but given up. It's almost (and I use that word with caution) almost easier to send the interlopers (Paparazzi, Obsessed Fans, etc.) home than to keep the gate locked.
