I have set up a holiday for each Sunday of the month. Got the idea from another player and it generally works out very well. Except for this gaming session. For some odd reason, my Sim didn't have the attend holiday services anywhere in his phone. I checked all seven of the family members on this lot. Then it dawned on me, perhaps the latest mod was interfering. So, I save the game and then exit. I removed the latest mod, deleted the localthumbcache.package and then got back into the game. It still wasn't working.
Hm, I'm thinking. What if I delete the holiday and set it up again?
Well, you can't do that in the midst of the holiday, but you can edit. Boy, are my cheeks red. LOL In edit mode, I quickly realized the problem. Under the section of 'goals' (of which for this one I have only attend services) I'd forgotten to place that. I took a moment to look at the next three Sundays. Yep, forgot to add the goal to those, too.
I just get going too fast, sometimes. So fast, that this time I totally messed up!
Please share your silly oversights that make you want to laugh out loud!

But the biggest mistake is a real doozy. When I first started, I thought that every time I wanted to play TS4, I had to start a new game (I thought it meant "new session"). I would start a new game and wonder why I couldn't play the same household as last time

It's a Rabbit hole. It came with Seasons along with the ability for us to create holidays of our own making.
For me it's just sending them to church. That's satisfying in and of itself. It's particularly amusing when my teen Global Superstar gets a cellphone call right in the middle of services. I had a priest, years ago, who when somebody's phone went off in the middle of Divine Liturgy, stood still and then just turned in the direction of the noise. A friend of mine who was in the Choir, was busily rooting around in her purse to quickly turn it off. I thought she was going to die of embarrassment!
He later let us know there was no place for phones in church. (Can't have them in the courthouse, either, so no biggie.) He let us all know that if a person absolutely must receive a call or text, to put the phone on vibrate. (We did have a few doctors in the parish.)

Silly mistakes, I sometimes queue up stuff for Sims to do while I have the game paused. Then forget I had it on pause, lol, and sitting here wondering why they aren't moving. lol
A rabbit hole is where your Sims disappears from wherever they were when you send them and then return some few Sim-minutes later. In other words, you don't get to follow them there.

I've done that whole sitting and waiting bit, too. But, what threw me is that I got the normal notice for the holiday on the day it was supposed to appear. Something is not quite right. I should pull my Mods folder and do a game repair. This is the first time I've ever faced this. But, then again, I failed to add any goals to achieve. Guess I've never done that before, either, to expect the game to 'catch it' as you say. And I agree. It does catch other things …

I take such long breaks (as many others I binge-play for 4 months and then don't play for 4 months or so) that I forget things like controls. I had to google how to take screenshots when I started a new game a few days ago.
Thanks, I get it now
I played Sims3 up until a couple of months prior to the release of Sims4. Once I learned there would be loading screens, I decided to reacquaint myself with them so there wouldn't be so much of a shock after so many years without them. Bouncing between the three games can confuse the mind. I would try to do something with the controls that only the other two games would allow. Oi! I finally gave up trying. Now, I only play Sims4. I have mods that have given me back a singer Sim, and a few other things. I'm quite content to play it for hours on end as many days in a week that I can.

Oh, now there's a NPC Sim I truly miss. Sounds like you're having fun.

The whole security gate-locking thing. I've all but given up. It's almost (and I use that word with caution) almost easier to send the interlopers (Paparazzi, Obsessed Fans, etc.) home than to keep the gate locked.
