I don't even use all the skin tones we have.

Will the color wheel be for everything; clothes, hair, furniture, etc.?

There’s no color wheel. We’re getting 100+ new skin tones with cool, neutral, and warm under tones and a slider to make each swatch lighter or darker. In addition we’re getting a makeup slider to enable us to adjust the make up to suit our sims as we see fit.

The OP said about the December patch and the color wheel.

@catmando830 The full announcement from The Sims team, no wheel.
Oh, so you haven't heard the news then ?

Just to be clear before the disinformation mill fires up:

The Sims team will be releasing a base game update around existing skin tones on October 6 for Mac/PC and November 10 for console. As we work on expanding skin tone variety, in this first step, we’ll be improving the blotchy artifacts and ashy appearance of darker skin tones on mid and high spec machines*. (Not sure whether this applies to your computer? See the note below!) As mentioned in our initial video, we recognize there is a need to improve the representation of hairstyles in our base game as well, so in October, we will start by updating two of the base game hairstyles.

Bigger changers are coming! In December, we’ll be rolling out at least a hundred new skin tone swatches in cool, neutral, and warm tones with a particular emphasis on darker skin tones. Beyond the new additions, we are introducing a slider on all swatches, both new and existing, that will allow you to modify each selected tone to be lighter or darker. We’ve heard your feedback on makeup as well. To truly complement the expanded library of skin tones launching in December, we’ll also be adding new sliders for makeup in Create-A-Sim mode. The updated customization options will offer an entirely new level of control of your Sim’s appearance so they can look as flawless as possible. Plus, the December update will include another two improved base game hairstyles.

Keep an eye out for more information from our team in late October or early November as we start to implement these changes. We’ll also be sharing more details about how we’re collaborating with external partners, including talented and diverse community members, to make sure we get this right. As always, we thank you for sticking with us as we continue to grow. We’re looking forward to sharing all of this with you in the coming months!

    Thank you!

*Please note that the October PC update will, at this point, be visible only to those running the game with the “Uncompressed Sim Textures” graphics settings turned ON. This will not be the default setting on all machines, so follow these steps to check your settings and see the graphic updates. To turn ON “Uncompressed Sim Texture” in the game, go to Options > Game Options > Graphics Tab > Graphics Sections > check “Uncompressed Sim Textures.” If your machine has lower graphics settings and you attempt to run with uncompressed graphics, you may experience a crash; to recover, please re-enable graphic compression. Based on the current specs that default “Uncompressed Sim Textures” to ON, we recommend a graphics card rated medium, high, or ultra and at least 2 GB video RAM.

I don't understand the need for 100+ swatches since we are already getting a slider to make a certain swatch darker/lighter. I think having that many presets is going to be too many different options to look at.
I understand them adding more undertones and a few presets of each, but then the slider can make an undertone lighter or darker.

As an European I am very aware of the differences between people.
This is not meant as a flaming attack or an insult, but I (against better judgement) spend a lot of time on Twitter, and a lot of the time I get the impression that Americans sort people according to "White, Black, Latino" and that's it. Maybe "Native / First Nation" gets in there if they think about it.

Because over here... I am Swedish. I can pretty accurately pinpoint if another white person is British, Irish, French, Polish or German. Just from subtle differences in facial shapes and skin color. Heck I can usually pinpoint if a Black person is from Britain, France or America.

Not to mention on a global scale: I mean even on a Macro scale: Northen China, Southern China, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Mongolia, Iran are all Asian regions. All have noticeable ethnical differences both in facial structure but also in skin tone. A Cambodian woman and a Korean woman has nowhere near the same skin color (on average).

So true!!! My aunt is from Kowloon, Hong Kong. Her skin tone is a very dark brown with yellow undertones. Which is completely different to the lighter tone of my best friend whose family is from Huabei, China. My Minorcan father has brown skin, but it's a completely different shade compared to my aunt.

I will never understand the people who can't tell the difference. It's so drastic. When I try to look for Asians on the gallery, nearly all of them are clay white with high cheek bones.

Edit: I'm American. So, not all Americans are like this. But sadly, many are.

It doesn't bother me that they're adding them, I just feel like there are more important things they need to fix first

Oh my, I really don't need "100" skintones warm and cold etc in my game. I think thee are plenty skin tones already, I won't benefit from any more. It's fine they improve the ashy looking darker, but aside from that - I feel bad for the political correctness affecting this more than it should. Most who protested did that to be heard, not to improve the game. Unfortunately EA had no choice. But do we REALLY need all this??? How many GB will this add...? Are you all on such fantastic graphics that you will be able to tell a difference between skin tone #76 and #77?

Well, this is one way of outing yourself.

Well, as a Simmer of pale hue, I don't really need them -- but I want them because I do like to create diverse Sims. And I'm glad we're getting them. B)

Same. I'm really looking forward to this (and if the swatch chart posted at Sims VIP is what we're getting, we'll be getting some nicer options for the lighter end of the spectrum as well.)

We're not getting a color wheel, we're getting a slider for skin tones.

You dont have to understand it. So long as EA does, im good :D<3

But besides your disregard for how others play, light and dark doesnt cut it. Theres a lot more to skintones than just being able to scale it lighter or darker.

I am really happy about the make-up sliders, hope they will work nicely with all the new skins they will add to the game, and I hope they will include an opacity slider too. :)

I wish the slider could be used on hair also.

They're giving you something to tide you over. Really don't see the point of complaining as they're going above and beyond with this. We've all seen the amount of people whining about skin tones even after they announced they were coming.

At this point people are just looking to complain.

I'm not complaining about them doing it, what I'm saying is they should focus on one update and not give us a half-baked one on october and makes us wait for december, it is better if we wait for december for the whole skin fix that way the delivery will be better.

Does delivering it as a full package really matter? They've fixed the broken skin tones already so they're making them available, simple as that. I don't really see the point in them holding onto it for three months and leaving the content broken just to make the release a bit nicer. Plus it could be a good thing as releasing a small change could weed out any issues before the final patch.

I think it's more a matter of having to pay attention to the differences. In your case it's because you have a varied family. It comes natural.

To put it bluntly the reason why I am more sensitive to differences between white people from different countries is probably, unfortunately, that we have spent approximately 5000 years trying to kill each other. Come to think of it the list i just wrote? Most of those were people we (as Swedes) had a habit of enslave, butcher or you know, ravage and plunder.
On the other hand being able to identify small genetic differences is also a huge boon for the opposite reason: To avoid inbreeding.

The slider only adjusts each swatch between light and dark.

Also, the 'half-baked' patch will likely come with much needed fixes for the game. The sooner, the better.

Here we go with the political correctness card. The skintones were a problem in the game and we will get a lot of new options! Is that hard to just be happy for other people? C'mon...

As I said on another thread, there’s a group that for a fact doesn’t play S4, but never miss an opportunity to complain about it no matter what’s on offer, it’s like it’s their hobby or something.

I interpret this as you'll need a decent - though not necessarily all the way to "high end" - machine with a good video card. Otherwise, the artifacting caused by file compression will still be there.

Basically the new skins are probably high-resolution files and need a sufficiently robust system to take advantage of them.

They shouldn't have made sims 4 with the intent to run on any machine. Not that it does anyway, because it won't. Computers that dont even meet minimum requirements will handle it poorly, even on low settings.
