Why so much hate for the star wars game pack

i dont think thats their way of introducing hotels. at least i hope not. there are a lot of rabbit holes. i dont mind most of them but would be nice if there was more then mostly the cantina being the only place to really go apart from doing missions.

Me neither. In TS3, part of the fun of hotels/resorts is owning them and building them up with amenities and increasing their quality, hiring staff, ultimately making profit from it which you can pour back into making it even better.

I've been looking at the speculations for the next EP and to me it sounds like it will finally include a resort/hotel system where couples can stay when they elope in a vacation destination (I hope!).

Wait you don't know Sims Superstar is an expansion pack with superstars being the brand of celebs, right?
    https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sims:_Superstar

Sims Superstar was an Expansion pack from the first game which had many celebs in it including Avril Lavigne, Andy Warhol, Christina Aguilera, Marilyn Monroe, Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi, Freddie Prinze Jr, and Sarah McLachlan. Sims 2 Pets had a video that was promoted by Hilary Duff.

Sims 3 sold a special collector edition of Katy Perry being the brand of Showtime:

True that Sims 4 is the first iteration ever to introduce game packs, so there is not set definition of what content they can or cannot have based on previous games which didn't have game packs. Thank goodness Sims 4 didn't charge $40 for a special brand edition expansion pack again.

Sorry Sims has been a shill of marketing brands for 20 years now. It is part of the identity. But then again "True Simmers" wouldn't know the history of the Sims or their games or that Will Wright is a Star Wars fan right? I think people are looking for drama were there isn't any because the game lacks that for them. Meanwhile I will enjoy gambling and arresting and "American trends" that has been requested by negative feedback on Sims forums. ;)

Pretty sure they would. It took awhile for apartments to be done right. I just think like apartments, hotels and resorts will be sold sliced up throughout multiple packs.

@Beardedgeek Yes but people buy it, that's the funny thing. People will literally buy an ad. This is why EA releases that stuff.
There’s no need to worry at all. Only a handful of abnormal people bought this pack. Luckily the majority is totally ordinary and have the sense not to fall for this kind of silly business.
But man do I enjoy this advert. Someone please lock me up. In a rabbit hole.
Rofl. I'm definitely abnormal. Weird. Crazy. And proud of it. Yay for Star Wars!

The abnormal comment just makes me think about Young Frankenstein. “Abby something. Normal. Yeah, that’s it … Abby Normal”.

Gotta love the Star War!! It’s very much a life simulation pack for me considering what I normally would be doing most weekends were a pandemic not currently occurring. (Hint: it involves Star Wars and plastic armor 😂)

The stuff packs don't count since they are about owning stuff but don't feature gameplay.
To make you understand this better it would be like "instead getting Open for business in the Sims 2, we got a "The Sims 2 open your own IKEA" pack for 20$". That would be a pack with only gameplay about IKEA.
The Sims Superstar you mentioned just featured celebrities from real life but it was just a small feature and it wasn't about just them. It's pretty much the equivalent of get famous that featured some actual famous people.
It's frustrating but it was not branded gameplay

    I agree.

Having a pack sell with "some" branding stuff, doesn't make it a perfect comparison to Star Wars... which is brand based and heavy dependant on brand gameplay.

Even TS4 had brand stuff. It was sold with a few Star Wars costumes, but that didn't make TS4 a branded game. Just a game with a few branded things.

No brand or celeb crossover will ever outshine Drew Carey randomly crashing the festivities in Sims 1 House Party, end of story. 😂

LOL that would have been good if they had crossovered the movies like that. But ended up Rey being the great aunt Kylo. Anakin just had to have his dad be Palpatine, no wonder he was so emo.

I mean Katy Perry pack was $20, so it was a brand without gameplay. Does kind of hurt that Sims 4 Gamepacks do cost the same as Sims 3 Stuff packs did. But yeah I get it just based on the name of the pack alone, Sims 4 Star Wars was the first GP that was branded with a name. Strangerville was heavily influenced to Stranger Things brand, just wasn't called it that way despite the story being heavily Stranger Things with the gameplay. Supernatural had heavy gameplay influence with Twilight brand. I guess it depends on the perspective.

@muzickmage the Star Wars costumes were "free" patches prior to the pack release. It wasn't until this pack that the theme was charged upon.

I guess it is something we are just going to have to agree to disagree on. I had fun seeing all the crossovers over the years just with the books:
    https://www.fanfiction.net/crossovers/Sims/3169/

Then again like I said before, some of the most negative vocal people requested the Sims 4 to be more American and trendy, so they got what they asked for and got their way. Just their ideas didn't pan out with how they thought it would be executed.

This is why we got the Star Wars pack because a few vocal Simmers wanted packs and patches to be exclusive to "modern trends". Thus why I don't believe some of the negative feedback because it conflicts with what those same people said late last year. It is these that you can thank for the Star Wars pack.: https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/965570/my-take-on-the-whole-muslim-inspired-clothing-thing/

I think just being related to Sheev makes for emo-ness. His Legends kids were kind of messed up and Ken was straaaaange. (It’s one of those things I chalk up to the EU being kind of spasmodic. You could have bursts of awesomeness. And you could have Waru.)

The gameplay value of game packs is hardly clear. The argument you’re making is that for $20 these packs are better because you get gameplay, but there’s no standard set for what that entails. In Sims 3 you knew $20 would get you a decent chunk of new objects (which had more polygons and a better texture framework) and it was as simple as that. Style was also a non-issue since most items can be recolored.

In Sims 4 that $20 gets you a game pack but the gameplay that’s intended to of value isn’t well defined. Dine Out is $20 and it’s main value is an interactive venue type that you can own and operate, or just visit as a patron. It’s open ended and integrates well into many different types of situations. Now look at Strangerville or Batuu; for $20 the value is literally the quests/the story. I would not consider either one open ended, neither one integrates into any situation other than the story you follow. Forget Sims 3 stuff packs, focus on Sims 4. Are the one-n-done game packs really on equal footing as the more open ended ones? Hate on SP for not having gameplay prior to it being the standard, but at least when it was just stuff there was a standard to reach. A baseline of value for the price.

Monetary wise yes you get more gameplay with $20 with the Sims 4 over the Sims 3. Whether it is World packs, Store bundles, or Stuff packs. I do think it is something to consider. So yes I rather have more gameplay over more "stuff" and decoration. How I have felt since the Sims 1 and wish they had never introduced stuff packs. Microtransactions have been encouraged since the Sims 2 days and got a lot worst during the Sims 3 days. So yes I would rather just have expansion packs sold and patches instead of content being sliced throughout several packs. But yes it will get grindy playing only one storyline with one Sim regardless of the story. Why I enjoy family play more and supernatural style just adds a bit more flair in gameplay for me too. It is something LGR and I agree on how Stuff packs are a waste of money. I love that doll of his.

Actually, for the same price of a TS4 GP, $20, you can get a whole TS3 EP now with tons of working gameplay, so that's a better value. Everything else for TS3 such as the SPs and Sims 3 Store is just optional. I knew that I didn't need to buy anything of those but I really love what EAxis did and bought nearly everything as my way of showing gratitude for and appreciation of their fine work! 🥰

Whereas, with TS4 GPs, a lot of the gameplay is buggy, doesn't even work at all or is even recycled like in the Star Wars pack. Not as much value really.

I really hope TS5 returns to the formula of what made TS1, TS2 and TS3 great. If TS5 is great that way, then I guarantee that I'll throw all my money at EA and buy everything in that iteration!

My point wasn’t that you get more gameplay over Sims 3. That’s obvious since every pack type in Sims 4 has advertised some form of “new gameplay” whereas that wasn’t the case before. I’m going to repeat, focus on Sims 4 for this convo. I’m not talking about Sims 3 that game has been dead for 6 years.

My point was that for $20 the “value” for game packs varies considerably. There is no baseline for what constitutes that $20. You can buy one game pack that has hours upon hours of open ended gameplay or you can spend the same amount on a pack that offers 2 hours of linear story gameplay (which will be the same on every subsequent play through). $20 can get you a fleshed out vampire occult, but that same $20 doesn’t seem to go as far for witches even though the bulk of the work was copied directly from vampires GP. Are you following?

I’m not going to pretend this problem is exclusive to game packs either they just are the worst offender seeing how they’re supposed to be viewed as mini expansions. Gameplay is an umbrella term. Like this studio considers a new sitting animation to be new gameplay on it’s own (Graham said this when referencing loungers years ago), but that’s hardly enough to justify a $20 price tag or a spot in an advertisement. If $20 gets you considerably less than it otherwise would for another game pack then it’s objectively not a good value. People can distort that whatever way they need to, but that’s what it boils down to. I personally didn’t mind stuff packs until this game shifted their focus to gameplay, because again they have not set any kind of standard for what constitutes valuable gameplay.

Except that this game seems to be more alive than ever...

I‘ve seen a growth in sims 3 threads in the past couple of months, including some in which folks are asking which expansions they should consider buying, because they’re fed up with TS4. Newer machines can run the game better now, so there are fewer reasons not to start expanding again.
Perhaps it’s not a significant number, but I believe sales for TS3 may have gone up a wee bit this year. Maybe just enough not to call it ‘dead’.

Nah. The Star Wars pack is the first pack (expansion or stuff or whatever you want to call it) that introduced having all the gameplay be about a brand.
I mean Katy Perry pack was $20, so it was a brand without gameplay. Does kind of hurt that Sims 4 Gamepacks do cost the same as Sims 3 Stuff packs did. But yeah I get it just based on the name of the pack alone, Sims 4 Star Wars was the first GP that was branded with a name. Strangerville was heavily influenced to Stranger Things brand, just wasn't called it that way despite the story being heavily Stranger Things with the gameplay. Supernatural had heavy gameplay influence with Twilight brand. I guess it depends on the perspective.

I wouldn't say the store was optional when they gave only rabbit holes in the game and all open venues were in the store.

People want to buy TS3 because it's cheaper than TS4 and it's still available.

@crocobaura Which they wouldn't do if they disliked the game. They would just stick with the Sims 4. Also the Sims 4 in my experience is much cheaper due to the sales.
The Sims 3 and its EPs are still really expensive on Origin and moderate on Steam. The only cheap options are second hand.
Where's my Sims 5 squad at?

We don't know who buys TS3 these days, just because it's still available to buy, doesn't mean that people are rushing out to buy it. There are a few people who are very vocal and praise the game to high heaven, but they have played it from the beginning and have customized it to their liking with mods. Maybe people who buy TS3 buy it because they think it will be easier to play on an older computer than TS4. I wouldn't assume that people who started playing TS4 have suddenly decided to buy TS3 as well, especially as you pointed out, both games are quite expensive.
