You‘re talking about the 6th anniversary of TS4. For the 20th anniversary (also this year) we got a recolored hottub.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we actually can’t have weddings, we can’t place wedding arches. We can elope though, woo?

You can edit the destination world lot and place a wedding arch. But can't use it. Just the option to elope.

... Well this is even worse than not being able to place them at all.

I have a speculation that the eloping thing is going to be more for the upcoming expansion pack. Remember the future cube?
The most popular destination to elope is not yet known.

I think they were so desperate to get something out to us that might distract us to make players start speculating other things, that they didn't test it properly.

We're probably going to get another destination world with a romance theme.

    I can picture it now:

Bob and Eliza Pancakes riding their bicycles (because we don't have cars) up to the "Elvis Drive-thru Wedding Chapel" on the Vegas Strip to tie the knot. :#

No no no, this wasn't the 20th Anniversary patch. This was just a small patch that they do every now and then. The 20th Anniversary was much....much worse. A single Hottub.

Oh I know that this was TS4's 6th Anniversary and not the The Sims 20th Anniversary, but I was talking about today's patch that added eloping to destination worlds. That's what I was referring to, that the patch probably was not just some random thing they patched in but for a reason. We have unknown Expansion pack coming up and people have been wanting resorts, hotels, weddings, etc.

Just sorta made me have a "hmmm...." moment

I totally agree. I've been thinking it's a romantic winter getaway because earlier in the year they were asking us in a survey which winter sports we want, and also what kind of romantic/relationship gameplay we want to see.

Nah, I think this was intentional. The future cube was referencing this pack/patch. That's why it specifies 'elope' and not get married. They enabled the ability to elope only.

Makes you wonder why they had the first Sparked challeng themed around destination weddings and casinos as none were actually possible in game at the time. I had no idea they couldn't marry in destination worlds before, but my sims rarely marry anyway.

To be honest, I'd never used that bathtub in game before that reminder.

Yeah I thought the same. Feels like the patch is prepping up the destination worlds to allow actual weddings later on. Just like the photography update for everyone before Moschino's stuff pack.

I would like a wedding/romance pack. It was among my top choices on that SP survey we had ages ago.

I think you mean *6th anniversary. Both were a complete letdown though to be honest but I suppose it's not obligatory to do something for every anniversary.
We're probably going to get another destination world with a romance theme.

I would be so happy if that's the case but the next pack is an EP and I don't see vacation worlds being anything other than game packs. A World Adventures EP would be so nice but I don't think they'll ever put multiple worlds in a single pack :s
