I think I actually have negative interest in this pack.

At least Strangerville had the Military career...

Am I the only person who finds it interesting since the trailer dropped the gurus haven’t made any comments about what is coming in the pack? Usually when trailers drop they answer questions about the pack I haven’t seen this yet with this pack I find it quite interesting how quiet they are being.

Yeah agreed, even GC are surprisingly quiet about it, James Turner aside

I don’t know, Deligracy said she was sick and tired of the sims community tearing down every pack with negativity. DON’T BUY IT IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT.

She has left twitter following the backlash and deleted the tweet.

That's her job. If she didn't know what she was signing up for when she signed all the NDAs involved, then she shouldn't have signed up at all. I don't know if she's oblivious or just willfully ignorant of the reasonable criticism the game receives. Not everything is starships and rainbows.
I really hope she doesn't post a video where she lectures the community :/
Then again, I don't think any of this is an excuse to be offensive, and harrassment of anyone is totally uncalled for.

I like Deligracy, I enjoy watching her let's plays, but anyone in the public eye so to speak has to be more careful about what they say. I don't think it is right what happened to her afterward, but it isn't a surprise either.

I think the game changers should jump ship and just start playing other games. I know she's been playing Ooblets and some other games, maybe she should just play those for a while.
Honestly, with the way the Sims is going, it's just not a reliable game to play anymore. The series is almost dead imo. Sims 5 will most likely be a disaster.

Besides Nifty Knitting, I'm started to believe Tiny Living, Eco Lifestyle, and now this Star War thing is really the game changers ideas.
That being said, look at how much influence they have with the gurus. For years people been complaining about the skintones, and one of them was complaining about naming the cow plant 🙄 another was complaining about the kitchen cabinets in Jungle Adventures.
And look how the gurus responds back to their requests.
I feel it's the game changers that is giving them the idea that we the players would be excited for packs like the ones we received for this year. They are not the one's paying for the packs!! And to be honest those game changers do not have any influences on me rather I buy a pack or not.

That’s why we need to #cancelEAgamechangers. Those with more influence then the actual community shouldn’t be promoting or on board with something that is a true cash grab. You need to see it in a perspective of people who don’t like Star Wars or don’t care for Disney in general. This pack is aimed in towards a small tiny minority & only appealing to a “fan base” they don’t have. That’s why they released this @ gamescon where “true players” are. Someone as a game changer that has more influence then the community should be on our side & should see what this pack is all about. I didn’t care for knitting but I realized this is something that most of the community wanted & something that brought things for us to do. But this? I don’t know what this would bring. I would of preferred this kind of detailed on Strangerville.

I have no faith that they will deliver anything with Sims 5 either. I still enjoy 4, I like it but I don't really love it like the other iterations. I won't start over again with 5 if it is moving in the same direction. They will really have to deliver something special for me to do so and I don't believe they will. I hope they prove me wrong.

    To stay on topic:
I am still trying to wrap my head around this Star Wars themed pack, I normally can find something to like about every pack, at least enough to justify it's purchase, but not this time. I just have no interest at all. Hard to believe but I don't want or intend to buy this pack.

I think they took a wrong angle. If they had just pitched this pack for what it is. Which is a theme park attraction. Take your sims of a vacation to the Batuu theme park. It would be along the lines of Jungle adventure or get camping-or whatever the other vacation pack is called.

Ugh, they really were stupid enough to go there? Someone take the Sims 4 out back and put it out of its misery already. Every time I think they can't sink lower or do worse, they manage to exceed my expectations.

Every time I think they can't sink lower or do worse, they manage to exceed my expectations Extremely this. Starting to give up that we will get even a small portion of the bulk we got in Sims3.
I think the issue is the game developers are out of touch. They make packs base on trends, or what they want in the game.

This is actually something that came to my mind. I can't remember seeing just a comment or two in hundreds/thousands over the years about Star Wars. They make less content than the Sims3. They put out packs that are getting away from what the Sims really is. All I can think of is, "Don't they really want our money? If I wanted a huge buy, I would make stuff that simmers really want and there is too much to list".

To be 100% honest, if this GP would’ve have strictly Space-Themed with references to Sixam, I would’ve been all over this in a minute. I don’t want a giant Star Wars advertisement in my sims game.

I guess there’s a first time for everything, because I have purchased every EP, GP, SP, and Store Content from TS1, TS2, TS3, and TS4 until now... I’m definitely skipping this one without any doubt.

I’ve found myself being drawn more and more back to TS3 and if this is the direction EA and Maxis is headed, I guess I can enjoy all the money I’ll be saving not buying their products. :D

Everytime I decide to play, it's the Sims3 I yearn for and the main reason I still trek to Sims4 is that I have little time and Sims4 is faster when it comes to CAS, saving, and a few other things.

    :3 Y'all want TS5 now?
Come to the dark side (wanting Sims 5) we have cookies.

Usually, I don't care for S5 talk, because they've said it will be years from this last spring. However, I had to laugh. Great wording.

I don’t mind Star Wars as a theme conceptually (I mean, these kinds of crossovers will always be a little weird to me, but I can get over it), but I’m disappointed, if they’re going to do this kind of thing, that they don’t let us actually do it.

To me, any hypothetical appeal of a Sims x Franchise or Sims x Genre crossover is being able to bring a sims style of gameplay to that universe.

Sims is about playing everyday life. I want it to still be about that even when it’s aliens or magic or Star Wars.

This is what I think the Vampires GP got the most right. They didn’t just add Vampires (and the cool tree system), they gave us a meaningful way to play with a vampire’s daily life. They gave vampires a world and daily use objects (coffins, plasma packs, etc).

If you’re going to do Sims meets Star Wars, I want a livable world. I don’t want to go through a portal or have a distinct and segregated experience.

(I DO think this stuff should be toggle-able, so you can have realism saves).

If you tell me you’re making a Sims Star Wars, to me the appeal of that is the idea of getting to explore daily life in the Star Wars universe. The whole reason you would make Star Wars into The Sims instead of some other game is to be The Sims. If I want to have a narrative adventure or solve puzzles or whatever, I can play a dozen other video games. A dozen other Star Wars games!

I don’t think the devs had much choice about making this, and I don’t hate it, and I don’t think anyone deserves to harassed for it. It’s basically harmless.

But I want to live in the magic realm. I want kids to have magic. I want to live on Batuu as a Star Wars alien and make money from scraps and try to talk my kid out of joining the rebellion because I’m scared for them. I want to live in the jungle and have a skeleton for a neighbor. I want to have an underwater mermaid home with a mermaid job and mermaid friends and a pet octopus. I want to live on Sixam and get alien jobs and have alien hobbies and alien aspirations.

I don’t want the game to cease being a life simulation and become an adventure game or just disparate unrelated gameplay that doesn’t mesh with the sim’s daily life the moment genre stuff gets added. The whole appeal of adding that genre stuff, to me, is to simulate that in daily life. I remain a little bitter that Sims Medieval was an RPG and not a proper Sims game, and I still want proper Sims gameplay from these ideas instead of using the Sims engine to make story and RPG or puzzle games, but badly.

It’s harmless, and I’m sure other people like it, and I am happy for them, but it’s not what I want.

Exactly ! I don't care that much about SW, but I would have enjoyed, really enjoyed, being able to live in a SW world, dress in the SW fashion, have aliens friends (and enemies), go to my SW job with my spaceship, come home to my droid and husband teaching my kids how to fight with the lightsaber. THAT is something I would have got behind. Just living the life a random Star Wars character would be living.
Having a sim from the SW world travel to the "real" world and fall in love with a "real" sim. Then the SW sim has to get accustomed to a new culture. Eventually, the SW sim convinces the "real" sim to move to the SW planet and they get to start a mixed family there.
So many possibilities... so many missed opportunities.

EA is consistently ignoring everything their fans are demanding... never once have I seen anyone say they wanted a Star Wars pack... NEVER! Honestly, if I wanted to play a Star Wars game, I'd play, you know, a STAR WARS game! What's even the point of this pack!? EA literally creates Star Wars games, so why couldn't they just keep the two games separate!?

Fans have been demanding for much more useful content (like farming, amusement parks, casinos, family play, werewolves, FARMING, FARMING, and FARMING!!!)... and this is EA's response!? Seriously?

I don't even feel bad for them experiencing this major backlash either... because they should've KNOWN from past experiences what happens when they ignore the fans and release packs NOBODY asked for! I don't feel bad in the slightest! They deserve this backlash.

If THIS is the game pack they're releasing, then they BEST create the next pack to be the greatest pack in the history of the franchise! It better exceed ALL expectations!

I was thinking this when Strangerville came out. I must be a sandbox player because I don't like leveling up or story driven packs. No matter the pack, I try to reserve my dislikes/not going to buy feelings. This pack will be dirt cheap before I buy it. I didn't see anything in the least to make me want it and CAS...just plain...TBH, at this point, even if they do the pack I want the most, they will probably put a bunch of CAS/Buy that have zero to do with the main theme instead of using nearly all of buy/most of build 100% related to the theme completely.

    Sure.

Not necessarily. This is the first time I don't even have to look at the trailer to see that I don't want it. I can only hope there are gobs of aliens and other stuff we haven't seen. Not interested in story driven; I thought I was in control in the Sims4 game? If I ever get this, it will be as dirt cheap as they make them or if they put out a sucky gamepack and stuff pack that I can bundle with.

This is 100% me. I didn't plan to buy the Witch pack, but I loved the world and found other things that made it worth buying. If it had more aliens to collect, really cool clothes and furniture, really fast appliances, and some type of draw in that has zero to do with SW and more to do with aliens, then I would've considered it. I don't see anything worth even considering here.

I totally agree. EA doesn't listen to the players, but as soon as a Gamechanger wants something, they go out of their way to do it. For example, with Lilsimsie and naming cowplants. Did anyone other than her really care about this feature? No, but they did it anyway.
Or James and the 3 bowels from Jungle Adventure. Did anyone really care if they weren't separate objects? Barely anyone. But, as soon as the next patch came out, it was changed!
Half of the Gamechangers don't even play the game in its "true" sense, they just stay in build mode and never Live mode. Only a minority of gamechangers play in Live Mode.
I don't even trust their opinions. They are so worried about getting "hate" from the community or being cancelled by EA that they never give any helpful opinion at all. They are just uselessly happy about every pack. There are a few who are more critical, but the majority are not.

I think something that happens is they’re generally very excited and positive in the beginning with constructive criticism delivered in an approachable manner that’s always given some sort of qualifier. “I really wish they would have____ but it’s not a big deal” “it would have been nice to see ____ but other than that I’m loving everything.”

And by the time they start being more direct with their criticisms, it’s lost in whatever else they’re saying in the video. I can think of at least two GC who seem to offer more direct criticism but they’re inside of a random build video or something. Then it’ll never really get seen and be taken as a priority.

Tbh one of the things that bothers me the most is how I'd gladly be all over this pack if it wasn't Star Wars. I don't mind the ideas, but I'm not into the rSW franchise and I don't want brand deals ruining my world's immersion.

There are two things that I think would have made this pack a lot more palatable for players, or at least for me-

-Addressing the "core" game features that need more work. Fixing the skin tones and babies should be sims, not objects. I'm sure there's other feature tweaks and enhancements that need to be done that I'm forgetting, but those are the main ones that come to mind. I feel like having extremely limited resources (from what they have told us) go for a niche pack leaves a sour taste when core game features desperately need polishing. If core features had been worked on, I'd be more interested in this pack. Instead I'm frustrated and feel like resources were wasted.

-If the Batuu vacation pack had been released in addition to the typical pack release schedule. So for example we'd get the stuff pack, expansion pack & game pack, plus a niche pack like this, instead of the niche pack taking the place of another pack. When they say that their resources are so very limited, it's a tough pill to swallow when they devote those resources to a pack with such a narrow scope. Especially when survey results seem to indicate that many are interested in other themes. The Sims franchise historically was the game that we players wanted to play. Our stories, our sandbox. I'd feel more respected as a player if they dedicated their resources to our sandbox, and leave the "pet projects" for any additional resources they can get.

I guess what it boils down to is that although I feel like the idea of this pack is interesting, I didn't want it to be at the expense of other things for the game. And I feel really frustrated that we're continuing to have this issue 6+ years into the game.

@Bluelle but on some level you need to know that the core of this game is never going to change? And yes there are a lot of things wrong with it, but these packs are made for the people that like the core. If they haven't fixed it 6 years in, they never will. No pack they can release, not even a Generations pack, will change what TS4 is at this point. So I'm guessing people "defend" it because, fundamentally, that gaping hole you see, simply isn't there for them. They enjoy it.

Me? I think it definitely needs stitches. I just don't think those will come. And what is there I kind of enjoy. The criticism I have with this pack though, and there are a few, are about this pack. Not the base game. Because I've long realized that part won't ever change.

For me personally, a Generations type pack would improve the core but not fix it. Basic family play and basic generational play. Teenagers could be changed into actual teenagers. Shorter, sneak out, throw secret parties. Elders could have canes, babies could be carried around, children could have more after school experiences etc etc. These things wouldn't fix the problem with the core but they would improve them, wouldn't they? It would make the sims feel more real and alive.

No things in life are black and white but I do feel like there's sort of two sides to TS4. Those who want more realistic and deep gameplay reminiscent of the one in TS2, and the ones who are fine with a shallow, quick time fun experience.

They could definitely change emotions. A family death should weigh more than "nicely decorated", that is doable. "Fine" could be the default emotion and not "Happy", this is also doable.

Obviously you can't change the actual core-core of a game that's already established. It would basically be a completely new game if they tried it - better just get started on TS5 in that case, but there are improvements to be made. It's not impossible. EA is a multi million dollar company and TS4 definitely has enough funding for this.

I'm sorry but I think it's just such a weird presumption to make "I want realistic, deep gameplay and whatever other people want must be shallow plum".

No, if you feel that way about TS4 I don't think a Generations pack would fix the game for you anymore than toddlers did. It would be a band-aid and sooner or later its effects would wear off.

I want a Generations pack, I want better family play and I agree that in many areas the sims 4 needs more personality and depth. But I don't hate it, I play it quite frequently cause the parts I do enjoy I enjoy enough, and more importantly: I know that the things I dislike simply won't change. So I judge DLC for this game within the reality of what this game is, not what I think it should be cause that dream will never come to pass.

And that is why for me, no matter how angry people are about this statement, at some point the choice really does boil down to: do I like it enough to play it frequently? Okay, then I'll buy DLC for it - if I like it. If not? Well then I stop, I'm out and I move on to 🐸🐸🐸🐸 I do enjoy because there's just too much cool stuff in this world I'd rather do than waste my time.

Cause no amount of DLC has ever fixed a rotten base for me. So if that's how I feel about the base, that is it, I'm done. Not just when it comes to TS, but to every other game as well.

It’s easy for them to be on board when they don’t invest any money or as much time as the true community & hardcore sims players. None of these “game changers” truly play the game. Like you said most of them don’t even go live mode & see or address the lack of gameplay issues. That’s why I don’t follow these people. They don’t deserve my view.

I wouldn’t have been disappointed in a general space/alien pack. Game packs have traditionally been great for occult’s in the S4 lineup. If I could create aliens and play with space themes without the Star Wars storyline I’d consider buying the pack. But from the trailer it just looks like Star Wars ... in the Sims. I don’t understand the purpose except to appeal to a certain segment of fans (and even then it doesn’t appeal to all of them). Just because EA can doesn’t mean they should and I really think that applies here.

Well, I was on board with this pack at first...but the more I look at the backlash and been watching videos. I can see why they are angry....
