I"m in no rush for 5 but Sims news is always exciting for this old simmer. Can't agree on the slamming of 4 as I do enjoy it as I do the first three still but they are just opinions and everyone is entitled to one.

Guess I better start putting some of my pension aside and hope I am still kicking when the next one arrives. If that is what it is. Kinda fun to wait and see as well.

I'm saving my money for TS5 since I have everything for TS3, but it's normal to want to complete your TS4 collection. And aw, senior citizens are awesome! I have some really fun ones in my family too, lol!

Yuck, that hyper realism look is no bueno for me. I hope they stick with the more cartoony look.

I think they use hyperrealism to show the highest level that can be achieved. Not that everything has to be done in that style. I hope they keep it cartoony as well.

I am really not keen on the look of TS4...perhaps mixing that style and semi-realism....

And they need to wipe that goofy perma-smile off every sims face! I can't stand it!

They're already in the production phase. Art design is during production.

"It is a post for a Senior Character Artist "to help establish the look of our characters for a new, unannounced project".

"To HELP ESTABLISH THE LOOK of our characters" clearly states this is concept art.

The creation of Conceptual Art is part of the Pre-Production phase.

My god don't get me started how annoying it is when you create a sim, trying to get a picture them with a calm face, only for them to smile that dang awful wide smile....Like just RELAX stop smiling and making noise every 30 seconds. I liked older installments where they weren't so loud and not standing still, and not making stupid noises.

They're already in the production phase. Art design is during production.

If they're using the Unreal Engine for TS5, then development doesn't need to take THAT long because the game engine is already built. Using the Unreal Engine as opposed to building it from scratch, which is what they had developed for all the previous iterations, vastly cuts the time it would normally take to create a new sim game.

But all the things you're hoping for, the customization, I think are possible with this game engine!

...No concept art is done by the Art Director in the pre-production phase, NOT the Senior Character Artist, which in turn helps to establish that look during the production phase. Plus it doesn't take that long to establish that look.

And no more poop jokes or references! They're so stupid!!! (And gross!)

Who’s to say this job posting is for a Sims title at all? EA is a large company. Could be for a totally different game

It's for Maxis, and unfortunately Maxis is now EA's "Maxis" so it's not even the same Maxis that used to come up with new ideas. They literally exist to pump out Sims and SimCity now...and SimCity is dead, if EA actually had Maxis get to work on a new IP.....well that would be the least EA thing EA has done in the last 5-7 years.

The Art Director is very much involved with conceptual development. They lead the entire visual team from the start of production to make sure their vision is followed. That vision is oftentimes communicated through their concept art.
Senior Leads supervise Junior artists. This team of artists will get bigger once the aesthetics are established and approved.

Before everything swings into full production, a lot of prototyping and testing needs to be done. Therefore Pre-production phase can be quite lengthy depending on the size of the project. In the case of The Sims...that would be substantial.

EDIT: Apologies. I misread your comment.

However, The Senior lead is also involved in conceptual stage, which needs to follow the Art Director's vision before it's fully established.

Not like Sims 4. I hate the playdoh aesthetic.

I found some great videos that detail what these positions actual entail, for anyone who's interested in finding out more. :) They look to me like they bridge the gaps between pre-production, production and throughout. I wonder if they've also hired an Environmental Artist yet? This video series mentions that position in the game creation process, but in their series, it falls between the other two. Maybe keep an eye out for that position ad as well?

If it really is Sims 5 being planned. It doesn't look as if they are advertising for enough staff - unless several of the present crew are working on it. Many of them aren't posting current stuff anymore or off socialising on Twitter etc . I wonder which ones might have gone "over?"

I hope SimGuruGraham has gone over. He's my favorite! And I also hope the one who managed The Sims 3 Store had gone over too - @LeGardePourpre mentioned who it was once but I had forgotten. Also hoping for the SimGuru for TS3's Generations EP!

I'm depressed each time I think about them, I miss SimGuruCopeland and the Maxis Salt Lake City team.

I'm new to The Sims. In fact, TS4 is my first game.

Am I right to assume that if TS5 is released, the last few years of collecting EPs and such is suddenly wiped out and I would have to start all over with a basegame TS5 and collect all over again?

Because that I wouldn't be happy about unless TS5 is the dog's bollocks.

Don't see why you wouldn't be happy.Thats the system if the sims. They won't be the exact same expansion packs they will be different.

I don't understand this mindset either. I assume that people buy packs because they add to the game that they are playing, if a new sims game comes out then will that make them stop enjoying the sims 4?

You make gaming sound like a chore. That is not the purpose of Games.

I hope you can find enjoyment in the Sims game that you play NOW.
Don't worry about whatever comes next. That's another story. For another time.

I think it's coming in a year or two, at least an announcement but I would still by sims 4 packs too. I mean, I probably wouldn't switch to sims 5 cuz I love my sims 4 families I've played 3.5 years and don't have time for another game, but if it was still just as cartoony and had way more life stages (gradual aging) and single players I would want to try it after it's out for a long time and goes on a good sale.

By that time though I'd have a few years to still play the Sims 4 pack so the purchase would still be worth it for years of enjoyment and I don't see myself ever switching completely unless they implement away to transfer my current save into a new game. Not sure if that'd be possible or not though

@LeGardePourpre Thanks for reminding me! But what happened to SimGuruCopeland? Was he let go?

Yah I play 3 and four. When five comes out .I'll still play four, and 3 . When a new game is realesed. It doesn't mean the other ones are gone.

I always thought I'd occasionally return to the previous games because there was so much in both I didn't get to experience but as much as I enjoyed 2 and 3 I'm starting to accept that I'll probably never play them again. Mainly because unless I play them regularly there's always that re-learning curve that can be frustrating. Trying to remember which features are in which version. Then there's the wishing for features from the current game and wishing for previous features when playing the current game. Also not having the time to devote to more than one iteration because I do play other games. So if I like 5 when it makes its debut I'll be done with 4.

I love it how people think they know exactly which part of development the Sims team is in.
This is just speculation I bet you didn't know the Sims team started developing the Sims 3 in 2005 either.
But I understand why people don't want the Sims 5 to come out with the huge amount of money some have spent on Sims 4 packs. I don't blame you I would be mad too to have spent hundreds of dollars on a game still not complete.
Where's my Sims 5 squad at?

Of course nobody knows for sure. But job posts ( even if not clear for which game they’re advertised) and CEO hints at the start of 2020, are some indications that can lead one to believe a new sims game is in its pre-Production phase, or at the most about to ease in to full production. Also, I believe that when Rodiek left TS4, he may have moved onto development of a new sims title. Was this in 2018? If so, TS5 probably won’t be released until the end of ‘21, start of ‘22.

But you’re right, these are speculations only and we have to go by those until there is more substantial evidence.

Well, it’s only a shame for those who do not enjoy or have never enjoyed the game and therefore feel they wasted their money.

Even for those who do enjoy the game but insist in buying every pack out there it's going to be hard after having spent a fortune. This is the first time there are soooooo many packs people are getting very attached.
With the Sims 3 we got a lot of packs but there was a healthier feeling of being attached and ready to move on.

This time around it's a fortune in extra content people refuse to separate themselves from.
