Dumb question about CC

So as I understand it CC (Custom Content) differs from Mods (MCCC, Zerbu) in that it is mostly aesthetic things like new furnishings, clothing, tiles, etc. I know that mods require updating with every patch, but does the same go for CC or are they mostly harmless? I thought I read somewhere that CC doesn't usually require an update unless something in CAS got updated like lighting or skin tones. Any clarification would be appreciated.

When it comes to CC, I find this tool very handy.

If you are wondering about a certain piece of CC or several items, you can save it on a sim or lot to your library. Then open up this tool, and it will give you all the information about the CC included on the item. I have used this to find the exact item, and you can even delete the CC with the aid of this tool.

But on a general rule CC is usually not affected, but it is good to also check with the site you got it from to see if there has been any updates.

Thanks @LaBlue0314, can you self-update in case the mod authors have abandoned or stopped supporting said CC? Would it really be necessary (sorry for all the questions, I usually don't use CC but i've seen some that I like)?

When it comes to self-updating for your own use most creators don't mind, but when it comes to sharing the CC, you will need to get permission from the creator.

But generally speaking I don't NEED to update CC unless it's pre-2014/2015?

Playtesting - not just tabletop games and card games any more. Really that should have been playtested in Beta and not

If there is a major break in CC, check with Sims 4 Studio to see if they have a batch fix for it. like when the lighting borked. Also, keep an eye out for @luthienrising and her fantastic broken/updated Mods thread which she posts in the General Mods Discussion.
