There have been no updates (that I am aware of) since the initial October 2019 announcement from EA about the new version or when it might be released. "Early in 2020" can mean anywhere in the first half of the year but it could very well take them longer than expected to finish this.
This isn't an update exactly, but it's nice to know that someone at EA not only is interested in the project but wants us to know that they're still committed to it:
Thanks for the link. I need to be more patient but not sure I can be though.:D If it comes out, then I will go back to the sims 3 straightaway. I'm currently playing the sims 4.
I’ll probably get it, as I already have TS3, Pets and Seasons. I just hope it’s less laggy and crashes less because it didn’t exactly run smoothly on my mac (2015 MacBook Pro).

What what what they are going to update sims 3 to work better with Mac? When is it coming out ? I am currently playing sims 4 and would love to go back to sims 3 again !

My MacBook Pro won’t run the sims 3 at all at this point I would love to play world adventures again. jungle adventure is so lame in comparison!

Not sure when it will be coming...I'm still waiting too
"Early 2020" my 🐸🐸🐸🐸! I know there's a pandemic, but surely the sims team could give up an update. I miss Sims 3 so much! and Sims Medieval! I mean, at this point if I had a couple 1000 dollars laying about, I'd get a gaming computer and play it on there, but I don't! Please update the game as soon as feasibly possible😱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Also I noticed the minimum specs is 4G RAM so it seems to mean that it is not just restricted to 2G RAM anymore !
We certainly hope that awful draconian restriction will be lifted. But that requirement is for total system RAM, so the bump in requirements doesn't actually imply anything about how much the game will be able to use. You can't run a program that wants 2 GB of RAM on a system that has 2 GB of RAM because the OS and other systems need to run too. For how far we will actually be able to take things, we are waiting and watching, ever hopeful for some pleasant surprises.
@jimbbq It has nothing to do with the OS you're running; even Windows players are seeing the 64-bit version in their Origin libraries. Check on origin.com just to make sure the issue isn't your Origin app.
It's also possible that your copy of the 64-bit version hasn't been added to your account yet. Someone from EA posted yesterday afternoon that the "entitlements" hadn't finished rolling out yet and that EA was aware a large number of players were still missing packs.
Having said that, if you still don't see the new version in your game library by tomorrow (Wednesday), please post in that thread so someone official can take a look. If your Origin ID is different than the one you use to post, list that too.
It's also a good idea to check the the specs of your Mac against the requirements of the 64-bit version. Not all Macs that run High Sierra support Metal, and some Metal Macs are under the minimum reqs, although they may still be able to run the game on lower settings. You can find the minimum and recommended specs here:

LOL!
I dunno though, I kind of like it. At least the expression on his face seems entirely appropriate.
hahaha...your joke was perfect. He looks like wanting my plasma. I'm looking forward to see my sims on Mac. I'm kind of sick of windows now.

@TayStormy Now I can wait more. I'm glad to hear that they are still working on it and needs more time.
The official word as of a few hours ago: "Soon."
