Name list replacement mods?

Basically I'm looking for a general replacement for the default names EA randomly names Sims with and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good ones - I've been looking online for a while but I've been unable to find a straight answer really. I found this one but the last time it was updated was in 2010 so suspecting it doesnt work anymore ...?

EA's name generator just feels very dated to me (lots of teenage girls running around named Barbara / Tammie / etc) and also very... random. A sim was just born in game named Bimble Bayless lol so I would very much like a new one. Thank you in advance for any help!

NRaas StoryProgression has its own way to handle custom name lists, for those so inclined. Of course, this won't do any good for those not interested in this version of story progression.

(scroll down a bit to see the tuning files)

@KatyFernlily Thank you so much! I'll check those out

@igazor Yeah I saw the story progression option! I do use StoryProgression so it's definitely a possibility, but I'm just a little confused on how it works. I know you edit the tuning file with S3PE, but do you have to enter each name individually? Can you enter a whole list? Is it a relatively easy process, or would I better off just downloading someone else's name replacement list?

I would have to say the ease with which the lists can be worked with is a player-specific thing. You might try a premade list to begin with on a test game off to the side, then maybe try editing it to see how easy/difficult you find it to work with before creating one of your own. I don't use custom name files myself but I just opened a couple of them to remind me of how they are set up and it all looks pretty straightforward to me.

If you have never used S3PE or Packer as package file editors before, that part can be a little daunting at first but we would be happy to help you with that on the NRaas forum boards. :)

@igazor thank you so much! After a little exploring I understand how to do it now - like you said very straightforward. Thank you!
