What should define base game content in the next title?

«1
This is what I think should be in the base game:

All life stages as well as new ones (Pre teens)
Pets or at least dogs and cats with other animals being able to be added in later EPs (such as a farm EP)
NPs such as police, fire, maid, gardener, mail, newspaper, burglar ect
Cars that you can drive (and open & close the door ect)
Busy community lots
A built in world creator/ editor
Weather even if basic (such as rain) with other weather to come in other EPs
Proper build mode like TS3
Graveyards
Doorbells (!)
OFFLINE!

Feel free to add

I think they mean one that includes a terrain editor, including ponds, out of the gate.

More than anything, a good personality system that includes bad stuff...

Base game content? Fleshed out life stages please. It's called The Sims, it's about sims. Sims should be totally fleshed out, with personalities and interesting from the get go. All life stages. And no more doll - gap for 2,5 years - kid - adult - adult - grey haired adult this time. I want interesting babies (Freeplay style), interesting toddlers, interesting kids, real teens, adults, middle aged people like me and real elders with their own interesting gameplay, so that I'd actually want to continue playing with them.

I honestly don't care if I'd have to play with that in constant sunlight the first few years.

Yes that is what I meant. TS5 should be more about building amongst other things rather than just make a Sim, move them in, get bored.

Players will enjoy the game more if they are allowed to be creative.

To keep it short, what went into TS2 basegame, which has what's been mentioned.

Sims 2’s basegame didn’t have weather did it? I’d obviously want an open world as well, and CASt.

First of all, focus on the Sims themselves. It's THE SIMS; not Party Life simulator. Give them realistic personalities, extensive traits (at least five slots for adults), likes/dislikes, turn ons/turn offs, etc; as well as a decent attraction system. Just as important--I Do Not Want Online Multiplayer!!! That being a major factor in the early stages of TS4 is a main factor in its many problems.

Life stages the same as TS4; but make the Sim models more represent their age; and do them properly.

Decent Sim model that doesn't look like a cartoon character.

A small "town" area built like TS3's. That would include a grocery store, book store, police station, fire station, hospital, graveyard; as well as restaurants.

Improved CAS and Build/Buy, map editor/builder (which both TS2 and 3 offer) as well as the color wheel. The color wheel is important, because with many CAS items, the swatches or limited; and don't offer much creativity.

Cars are base game in TS3, but not TS2. I don't know if they should be basegame in TS5 or not. However, I think TS2 implemented cars best. If Sims teleport, they shouldn't disappear--they should be shown getting into a taxi/carpool when they leave and getting out of one when they arrive where they're supposed to.

I think neighborhoods should be open world, but not entire maps. That's just torture on anything that isn't a high-end performance gaming machine in terms of TS3.

Occults, nightclubs, bars, pets, anything else--save it for later EPs. I do not get why bars and lounges are basegame in TS4, but not in any other game; and were usually bundled with "Nightlife" type packs.

I agree I love building much more in TS4 than TS3. I would love spiral stairs and be able to create a grand entry in my builds and pool tables and other build or buy items in build mode but not having those items does not make TS4 building more difficult. I would like more places to build in each world. Bt again that doesn't take away the ability to build a nice home for my sims.

I would love to see build mode go to the next level like being able to create a sunken living, platforms for our beds and bathtubs. Have basics where we can build a chair, bed including basic shapes for the beds. Beds like Casper and Sleep Number for our sims. Having not just double beds but a queen and king-sized beds for my master suite as an option. Come up with a limited edition with an M rating and a T rating game. I would like the little things back like favourite food, favourite colour, likes and dislikes, astrological signs, compatibility, traits mean something, more traits per sim and more content for the price we pay. It's like paying 5-star restaurant prices for McDonald's food when we buy so little content in stuff, game and expansion packs. I want to be able to play the game vanilla again and really enjoy it being played for hours and not realize I've played for hours at a time with ZERO mods. I want the colour wheel back. I want CAS taken to the next level. It's so much easier to make a Sim in CAS than in previous Sims games. I'd like being able to adjust height of my sims. We aren't all the same height so why should our sims be. I want something like the Sims Store we have in Sims 3 where we can buy a few things from the shop if that is what we want. Be able to have the roof over an attic to build in. I'd like to be able to build crawl spaces. I want babies, tots, kids, preteens (as a new life stage), teens, young adults, adults and elders be able to do much more than they do now. I'd like to feel like any pack or the base game feel complete. Not like ok it's almost there. I want all of your voices to matter when the majority suggest things instead of being ignored by Maxis/Origin/EA. My kids can't have innocent first love actions with each other. I'd like to have inequal relationships. For example unrequited love or seeing my sim put in the friend zone or put somebody in the friend zone. Actions having real consequences. Seeing things like Divorce with child support. I like that same-sex couples can have babies together now. I would like to see more LBGTQ friendly options in the game. I'd like more types of relationships like bromance. I'd like for more options for household relationships like in law, great grandparent, cousin etc.

Oh, dear. This is going to be a long one from me, so I'll separate these in spoiler form.

    Life Stages
    This needs a complete overhaul.

    - Infancy, broken down into two categories: Newborn and then an infant.
    - Childhood, broken down into three categories: Toddlerhood, then Pre-schooler and finally children (child).
    - Adolescence, broken down into two categories: Pre-teen and then teen.
    - Adulthood, broken down into three categories: Young Adult, Adult (Middle-Aged), and finally Elderly.

    1920px-Child_development_stages.svg.png

    Occults

    - Aliens. (Base game occult for TS2)
    - Ghosts. (Was not present during the release of TS4)

    Education
    - Once a Sim enters the Childhood stage, they begin as a Toddler. As they advance/age in this life stage, the child will eventually have access to be enrolled in Kindergarten/Preschool.

    - A Child has access to Elementary school.

    - Pre-teens have access to Middle/Junior High School

    - Teens have access to Secondary/High School.

    - Young Adult & Above have access to College/University.

It would be nice for a change if I’m able to have children/pre-teens/teenagers drop out from school for storyline purposes. Provide disadvantages for career advancements for those who dropped out. Restricted to a certain career level or can only apply to part time jobs.

    Create-A-Sim
    - Push/Pull and slider mechanics. Both are present for the most customizability possible when creating a Sim.
    - Height modifiers should be present for Teens/Young Adults/Adults/Elders. To further prevent routing issues and interactions, there should be 3 preset heights: Short/Average/Tall.
    - Pre-teens should be shorter than Teens and taller than children (Child).
    - Choose whether a Sim is left or right-handed.
    - No more clay hair. Strands of hair are present like The Sims 3 and hair sways/moves like The Sims 2.
    - A separate clothing accessory for Scarves.
    - Allow us to choose whether we want an item used on the left or right or both for Gloves, Earrings (possible in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3), Piercings and Socks.
    - If we are able to change the size of feet in The Sims 4, please allow us to adjust the size of hands in The Sims 5.

    Traits
    - The ones from The Sims 3 hit the spot. They gave personality, depth, and meaning rather than affecting "buffs" (emotions).
    - Being able to choose more traits per Sim on each life stage.
    - Unlock an additional trait slot if you achieve a certain goal. Straight-A child student, perfect GPA in university, completing all scout badges, etc.

    Build Mode
    - Curved walls.
    - Pool. (Not present at the release of TS4)
    - Pool amenities: Diving boards, diving platforms, and slides.
    - Curved pools.
    - Ponds.
    - The depth or height of a pool/pond/fountain/wall/foundation should not be universal. We should be able to customize it to however we want. I mentioned the foundation tool because we couldn't have it this way at release.
    - Terrain tools (Not present at the release of TS4)
    - Top-down view (Available in The Sims 2/The Sims 3)
    - 45-degree angle (The Sims 2:Apartment Life) to help customize the ceiling floor.
    - Build awnings (Straight or Curved) via the Wall Tool.
    - Turn grid mode on/off (Available in The Sims 3)
    - Spiral staircase.
    - Bay windows.
    - Curtains that can be opened/closed.
    - Folding doors.

    Customization Depth
    - Built-in world creator. (Like The Sims 2)
    - Advanced Create-A-World tool. (Players can download it separately like The Sims 3)
    - Color wheel.
    - Favorite color.
    - Favorite dish.
    - Favorite music.
    - Gender preference. (Not present at the release of TS4)
    - Create-A-Style.
    - Turn Ons/Turn Offs (Chemistry System).
    - Fury.
    - Interests.

    Base Game Careers

We should be able to choose what career branch we'd like to enroll for our Sims from the beginning or later on depending on the career.

    > Air Force.

I don’t. Building in Sims 4 is easier which is a plus, but for me it’s also very boring where in Sims 3 I’m totally addicted to building. I don’t bother building in Sims 4 (always download from the gallery), in Sims 3 no sim of mine ever lived in something else than a self built home.

Building may be a bit harder, but it’s also way more creative. Remember there were no terrain tools in Sims 4’s basegame, no way to make ponds (can you now? not sure), there’s no CASt. All those things are what make building a pleasure for me. Throwing in preset rooms and items I can’t recolour/give different patterns just isn’t my idea of fun. It feels like plainly collecting some stuff and arrange it. For me that’s just boring apparently. Actually even having to think through what I’m going to build in advance is part of the fun for me as well. ‘Easy’ and ‘fun’ aren’t necessarily the same thing for everyone.

@cody6268 You nailed it. "It's THE SIMS; not Party Life simulator. Give them realistic personalities, extensive traits (at least five slots for adults), likes/dislikes, turn ons/turn offs, etc; as well as a decent attraction system."

This is truly all I care about.

I would love it if they had firefighters come and put out fires made by your Sims without killing off a character you liked. I may or may not have killed Johnny Zest in a house fire. I didn't realize the house was on fire because I was upstairs with another Sim and I got the notification that the house was on fire and Johnny had died. He probably was the one who set the house on fire when I wasn't looking.

It's impractical, but if I'm being honest, I feel like the base game should include all of the key features that EPs and GPs bring to the game (I don't mean every single object or piece of CAS). But like...active careers, business/retail, university, restaurants, occults, clubs/group gathering structures, etc...all of these foundations should just come in the base game.

It's really hard to ignore the sound of those fire alarms in the other three games. They also slow down the pc with that sound for some reason in all of them for most people not on some super duper pc but average players at the time who didn't own high tech gaming machines. My dogs thought it was a real fire alarm and always barked and ready to run outside. I couldn't ignore that.

    • Life stages should include toddler, child, teen, young adult, adult, and elder. Perhaps a possibility of an older-adult stage.
    • Bring back NPCs such as fireman, policeman, and burglar. Also newspaper boy. I've heard dissatisfaction about newspapers being gone.
    • Pools
    • Driveable and functional cars.
    • Roads
    • A world editor tool similar to TS2 and TS3. I don't expect anything super elaborate, just something to add lots, place decorations, add things to a world template, etc.
    • A world in it's entirety. I don't like how TS4 has the sub-neighborhoods fragmented like that. Also open world. It would be preferable to freely travel between worlds also through a loading screen.
    • A return to sims 2/3 building tools. I find the sims 4 building system to be very prefabricated. There are too many restrictions when trying to build.
    • I don't care for weather in the base game. I am fine with that in an EP.

Ah, I didn’t know the camera doesn’t do that on console. (I’m also referring to Sims 3 there by the way, not Sims 4).

I agree with every point in there. As for life stages, I’d like adult (20-45), middle aged (45-65) and elder (65+). With options in CAS to make a sim look a bit older within their life stage. And I’d want real distinctive features attached to those life stages to give them options to make them behave in a unique way.
