Before using mod, do I need to own the object first? Such as your example Baker's Bazaar Collection from the Deliciously Indulgent Bakery.
As Jodi (@me1620) mentioned, you do have to own the item first. I mentioned them because sometimes the items don't quite work the way the creators seem to have intended. Or there are some creative alternative uses that the mod adds that seem to make sense. But mostly it's about making the object work correctly.
I think the absolute best example is the Dirty No More Changing And Bathing Station. After using the item, the adult invariably puts the child on the floor, rather than in a more appropriate place, such as a crib, walker, etc... The mod I use prevents this, causing the adult to keep the child in their arms until they are directed where to place the child. I've always hated the habit Sims have of placing infants on the floor.
Lol. A number of DD stalkers felt the same way you did. We didn't really want every item and intended on only purchasing those we absolutely loved. However, those virtual items captured our hearts and we ended up owing the entire store collection. I caught "completionitis" and own the store. I have to confess there are some items I barely use. But when you see it used in someone else's build, you are glad you have it.
Acquiring new content is exciting especially when the purchase of a few items unlocks an entire set or compilation. The DD list takes 88 days to cycle and acquiring the content you want can take time (and more if you miss an alarm for a specific deal). If you want to balance the joy of owing the items immediately with making your Simpoints go further, use the advice in this thread and others mentioned on page 1.
I love hearing updates on players' DD Stalking. I found stalking the DD and getting the most value for my points as much of a game as playing the Sims.

I'm trying to follow the suggestions on the thread. Although I'm afraid I will miss something I really want on the first go around. I wish the One With Nature set was cheaper to get.

Can you truly color the chimney pieces from Brunch at the Old Mill? That is next on my list.
As a builder, this was my motive as well. That and being able to have free reign when building. BUT, this was back in the days of ad points. I spent very little actual money for what I own. Between ad points and gifting I was able to get much of the store for free. Later I was able to accumulate enough to do some gifting of my own and "pay back" what had been done for me.
Honestly, I think I have paid almost as much buying points on sale in order to keep gifting as I did when buying the store! Sadly, my finances have become rather tight and that option is, at least temporarily, on hold.
My point, and there was one, is that while many (most?) of the original members of this thread did purchase the store with hard earned cash, several of us who came later were able to take advantage of the now defunct ad system. It is really too bad that they let it go. I think many people would never have "owned the store" without that boost.

I realize that some new people may have no idea what "ad points" are/were. The Store page used to have a link that would connect with various types of ads where you would earn points for clicking through or watching a video. They never required a purchase, just that you complete the ad process. For those of us with the time, this was a great way to "earn" free Sim Points. Unfortunately a while back the process "broke" and after a while we finally got an unofficial notice from EA/Origin that they did not intend to repair it. It has been gone ever since.

Unfortunately I missed the sim points sale a few months ago At that time I was busy building in Wurm Unlimited, but I got tired of making my own materials like bricks, mortar and wood planks. So I came back to Sims to build which I never really did before. Having a way to earn points would be nice. Plus now my computer can run more than 2 or 3 expansions at a time. I found a decent affordable "used" pc on ebay I wish I had this a few years ago when I could afford sim points.
I'm in a Facebook group with quite a few members and people still ask about acquiring points with ads. It's a lively group that will continue to play 3 until a new version is made like it.

I love the Greenhouse. I am currently playing the Sims to activate badges. I use a dedicated Sims 3 game folder for achievement for which I did not install any store content. However, yesterday I installed the Greenhouse because I really wanted to use some of the pieces for my sim who is working on the gardening skill. I missed not having the SwiftGro Gardening Station.
@Me1620 I hope you are having a lovely evening! I agree the Greenhouse is a wonderful lot, I bought it on DD a couple of years ago and I use it in almost every game I play.. It decorates towns in way that is awesome! I ussually add showers to the bathrooms so that when my Sims get very grungy they can shower and then continue gardening longer...
@LMC6255 - In my current game, my sim purchased a second lot for gardening. I not only gave her a shower but I built a small one room house so she could sleep and eat there too.

@Me1620 I know people in OE who would live like that if possible.
The SwiftGro ends up part of almost every Sims' house I play. Simply visiting the Greenhouse isn't practical when gardening isn't the primary focus of the Sims' life, so bringing home the best benefits in one simple item fits the bill. Although most Sims end up visiting the Greenhouse to find rarer seeds from the spawners.
And I agree with @goodFeel93, I love using those build components.
Speaking of build components, I was at the theater today waiting to watch Frozen II, when I looked up and saw this familiar sight:
I thought that I was in build mode in The Sims 3!!! Those familiar circular lights that I've used so often were suddenly hanging there above me in OE! But they were visible in play mode! LOL
I really did get quite a laugh when I saw them, and even explained to my non-Simming sister what was so funny.

As Jodi (@me1620) mentioned, you do have to own the item first. I mentioned them because sometimes the items don't quite work the way the creators seem to have intended. Or there are some creative alternative uses that the mod adds that seem to make sense. But mostly it's about making the object work correctly.
I think the absolute best example is the Dirty No More Changing And Bathing Station. After using the item, the adult invariably puts the child on the floor, rather than in a more appropriate place, such as a crib, walker, etc... The mod I use prevents this, causing the adult to keep the child in their arms until they are directed where to place the child. I've always hated the habit Sims have of placing infants on the floor.

As a builder, this was my motive as well. That and being able to have free reign when building. BUT, this was back in the days of ad points. I spent very little actual money for what I own. Between ad points and gifting I was able to get much of the store for free. Later I was able to accumulate enough to do some gifting of my own and "pay back" what had been done for me.
Honestly, I think I have paid almost as much buying points on sale in order to keep gifting as I did when buying the store! Sadly, my finances have become rather tight and that option is, at least temporarily, on hold.
My point, and there was one, is that while many (most?) of the original members of this thread did purchase the store with hard earned cash, several of us who came later were able to take advantage of the now defunct ad system. It is really too bad that they let it go. I think many people would never have "owned the store" without that boost.
EDIT:
I realize that some new people may have no idea what "ad points" are/were. The Store page used to have a link that would connect with various types of ads where you would earn points for clicking through or watching a video. They never required a purchase, just that you complete the ad process. For those of us with the time, this was a great way to "earn" free Sim Points. Unfortunately a while back the process "broke" and after a while we finally got an unofficial notice from EA/Origin that they did not intend to repair it. It has been gone ever since.

I love the Greenhouse. I am currently playing the Sims to activate badges. I use a dedicated Sims 3 game folder for achievement for which I did not install any store content. However, yesterday I installed the Greenhouse because I really wanted to use some of the pieces for my sim who is working on the gardening skill. I missed not having the SwiftGro Gardening Station.

And I agree with @goodFeel93, I love using those build components.
Speaking of build components, I was at the theater today waiting to watch Frozen II, when I looked up and saw this familiar sight:
I thought that I was in build mode in The Sims 3!!! Those familiar circular lights that I've used so often were suddenly hanging there above me in OE! But they were visible in play mode! LOL
I really did get quite a laugh when I saw them, and even explained to my non-Simming sister what was so funny.
