My big worry with the lack of Simgurus leaking information.

I am not disappointed nor surprised that classes are rabbit holes. In fact, I would prefer them that way. Classes are mostly just lectures where you sit and take notes or record what's being said. That is fine in real life because that's how it works, but in a fun game it would be incredibly boring. The vast majority of "education" happens in the library, or in study groups or doing debates or presentations. I have no issues with the education part of this pack. The rest of it lacks IMO. There is just an obvious less amount of gameplay and stuff than in past versions. No pool tables? No vending machine deaths? No Greek Houses? And this fairy land secret society? Urrggghhh!

Why can’t we even attend one lecture?! Do they assume all college students have extra curricular activity? Also, if they could do teaching as active career, how could they not add ‘attend a lecture as a function??

When I was in college, most of the time I spent either sleeping whenever I can or play The Sims the night before exams. :D My class schedule were pretty much packed in the first 2 terms, then it spread across. Some was early in the morning and some were later in the afternoon or evening. And I'm quite active in extracurricular activities too.

But I do understand that if there's an option to attend, even though for 1 to 2 Sims hours in the class, it would be cool. However, if it's going to be like the GTW active careers (with all the goals), then it's not that great or much time (in Sims hours) to do. I would prefer letting my Sims to do whatever they want instead of "fulfilling" the goal (because that is what the Uni experience all about, experiencing RL without the "adults" inference. ;) )

I would much prefer if they added a sort of like a "check list" that each student has, where they need to complete it in order to excel on that particular term or towards the whole degree course.

About the teaching career, I have an experience being a tutor. TBH, it's more about the preps, paperworks, research & materials that exhausted us. The teaching part, IRL, it's interesting, but in the Sims world, I doubt it will be as interactive as what we can imitate as in the RL. What can the lecturers do in the Sims world besides research, applying for grants, paperwork, prepare the exam papers, consult the students, etc.? I can't see how it can be an active career, but will never know since we have a robotic lab. I want my Sims to be the Robotic class lecturer, because that would be awesome! (Talking about the world domination! >:) ) Yet, I don't know how could they make it as an active & interactive as much as possible. However, I'm more interested to have the law career to be active because of the GTW. It would be interesting if they integrated this career with the existing police career in it.

And now we know why they were silent for so long. Simguru Frost spilled the beans, the classes are rabbit holes. That means the universities are essentially rabbit holes. So since the Universities are rabbit holes instead of Discover University they should have called it Discover Rabbit Hole. The feature they named it after, what they are trying to sell is a rabbit hole! I would hide too if I was them.

Well that’s a surprise! Said no one ever.

No wonder there’s so many majors, they are rabbit holes. Considering they are all rabbit holes there shouldn’t be so repeated courses.

I agree that if we're getting all rabbitholes, we should've gotten more variety in the amount of classes offered per each college, not just the same classes just flipped between distinguished and not.

I am actually happy they are flipped. This makes it possible to study any major at any university, so I can choose freely which uni to attend without it limiting my course options. And there are two sorts of degrees so there will be a difference.

It's not confirmed as an active career yet is it? I thought it was a rabbit hole.

Nothing is confirmed yet as far as I know. I hope the careers will be either active or work from home. I actually prefer work from home because I find it easier to combine with other sims in the household.

I don't mind rabbit hole classes, after all we would be watching our students just sitting and listening. But I hope there will be other active parts of their university studying , like projects or papers to complete or study groups.

But wouldn't that just make it feel like there's no use picking one over the other because at the end of the day, both offer basically the same courses? If you're going to create two drastically different universities, at least give them more variety in the things they offer. Let them both offer the same courses yes, but I would've thought they could add even more that are more or less exclusive to one over the other. Relying on the general atmosphere of each college and the extracurriculars shouldn't be all the variety that determines choosing one over the other. Doesn't sound too hard to do when the classes are all rabbitholes anyway, and I'm sure any modder can make their own courses. You know what, I can't wait for all the huge variety of college courses that modders will create for the pack. :)

More courses would of course be even better. I wonder if modders can add additional ones, I think they will.

We don't have all the info yet but I suspect there will be some difference between normal degrees and distinguished degrees. Hopefully it will affect gameplay, or at the very least give a different boost to careers. So while all options are open to both, they do give a different feel by specialising in certain courses. Like you I hope the universities both have their own atmosphere.
At the same time I am happy sims can study villainy at britechester or communications at foxbury. I like being able to choose the courses separately from choosing which uni to attend.

The option should be available for those of us that “don’t” play a household with multiple sims and don’t want to wait for our sims to come out a rabbit hole. Imagine how boring that is. At what point do we actually get academic gameplay that’s not already present? This is why the bar gets lowered with every pack. Next it’s going to be a farm pack with object animals, or a rabbit hole barn to interact with them. 🙄😒

Am I the only one that thinks they could not have a sims camp and instead, put that huge amount of money into the actual pack to make it better? Isn't one of their go-to excuses is that they can't afford it? There's only so much in the budget? Stop wasting it on Sims Camp and put it into the pack itself.

i guess that's where all the budget goes to.

Many of us requested the Secret Society to come back. If it was good enough for Will Wright to want it in his Sims 2 University - well we wanted it back. It shouldn't have ever been missing when it was in a WW made game - not nice to insult the Master himself you know. He didn't do a lot in Sims 2 but he did oversee the base and Uni as well as when the Genie was added and Uni Zombies - among a few other things - like the Grims phone - too bad we don't get all of that...

I thought one of the trailers or maybe one of the blogs said there were different courses offered at the different Uni's. When you graduate or finish one you can go to the other by trying to earn a scholarship at the first one or take out a loan.

In past Uni's I some times played 24 Sims and always had someone going or coming from one of the Rabbitholes classes while i did things with other students I was playing - they all had different times for different courses and different things to do so you stayed busy if you even did just 16 students. Believe me it wasn't boring. In between going to classes some had tests to go to, study groups - some had sports or cheer leading - all kinds of things. Who just plays one student? I never did - On top of it they have odd times to go to take tests, assignment, a thesis, books to read not found in regular libraries, other assignments and many other things they have to do , none of which is for having fun. Fun is left for Fridays and Saturdays or else you will never make it with that many students.

I mean, I haven't tested it, but in theory I could have a career as a conservationist in Sulani while living in Brindleton Bay. It would be easier if I lived in Sulani, no doubt, but it should be possible.

As far as I know there's no confirmation of this yet. All we know is that there are dorms and that there's off-campus living, the latter possibly with a roommate or housemate NPCs (I say possibly because it wasn't stated clearly yet either).

@scoed TS2 University was a rabbit hole and most of the classes in TS3 were rabbit hole classes, so I am not seeing what the issue is with that. in TS3 you attended a lecture, painted, did the medicine or science thingy - not too exciting. in TS4 there will be "lab like" things we know that they have at least three: debate, robotics and art. So, not seeing why the disappointment.

Because the worse part of all the sims games is the rabbit holes. Yes The Sim 2 used rabbit holes and the pack was fun. But Sims 3 was better in that area being only half rabbit holes. This is going backwards. The Sims 4 does this a lot. People talk how boring lectures were. I will that it wasn't the best, but it is better than having literally nothing to do or watch while waiting bored stiff for one's sim to pop out of the wait of time hole. Most collage students do not have family to control so every second of a rabbit hole is dead waisted time. Anyway given that aactive careers gives a choice, thay could have made it both ways. In normal game play since GTW the best advantage sims 4 had over sims 3 is fewer rabbit holes and usually there is none rabbit hole choices. (Active careers, work for home carriers, and the like replacing rabbit hole ones.) This pack is not only form the Sims 3 but from most The Sims 4 expansions.

As is I an only getting Discover University because I bought it before I found out the content is built around rabbit hole play, and I love robots in the sims. After playing through once I doubt I will wast time with the rabbit hole content. I hate staring down at that clock waiting for play to begin again. Besides rabbit hole take longer than loading screens usually anyway.

I hate when game designers build in dead time because they cut a corner. It is lazy. And is the worse part of any game it is in.

But I seen the poll. I realize I am a minority. I guess people like rabbit holes. I don't get why unless you have a big family and most collage students don't, I just don't see the appeal. I strongly hate it.

Besides I was hoping for play based on going to collage not just play based going to collage parties and clubs (like the three you mentioned). We already have clubs and parties in game. I wanted to replay my collage days. There was no parties or clubs. It was work, class, study, homework, and if I was lucky sleep. This pack offers little of that and what it offers is a rabbit hole.

@troshalom Does that answer why I am disappointed the made University a little more than more adult party time and a rabbit hole. I know I am in the minority. So I guess the game designer got it right. I do not have to like it though.

@scoed tbf, the poll results may just mean that the forum members here are more inclined to like rabbit hole classes more than active ones, but it is usually a good indicator of what the greater community outside these forums would probably lean more towards.

Yes @scoed that clarified it. The let's play comes out in a few hours, and maybe that will answer some questions.

After playing Uni in TS2 and TS3 I became rather bored with the on campus part and basically would purchase the university degree for my sims. It wasn't so much the university that was the issue for me, it was being trapped at university and not being able to play other family members. And I just didn't want to have to ensure my sims wrote a paper, did a study group blah blah.

Also for me college and University (including grad school) was more balanced I had parties, clubs, and study groups, papers, classes etc. But the best part of my college/university experience is not in game, because there is no faith in game unless you consider ROM and the Wiccan faith.

I think since the SimGuru mentioned time management and the fact that the Sim in the second trailer mentioned she flunked out of school that you may get some of the game play you wanted even though you don't attend class with your sim.
