Things to do on dates?

«1
When my sims go on a date I always do the same thing; watch a movie and then go to a restaurant.

Do you have any suggestions of other things to do on dates since doing the same things over and over again gets very boring?

Go to a sports bar perhaps or a lounge and have some drinks, or spend the night singing karaoke....I dunno there's a lot that you can do in TS3. If you have Roaring Heights you can take sims to the roller coaster on a date, there are also cafes you can go to....etc

Choosing where to go is a learned skill. When we were little, our dad always showed us a good time. He would take us to places like just outside of restaurants, tell us to look in the window, and say, "See, kids? Those people inside are all having a good time!" Then we would all go home. :/

Okay but seriously, I was curious a while back what other players did with their sims on dates. Hence this poll/thread from a couple of years ago.

It depends on the Sims who are dating.
I like for my Sims to do activities and so I'll have my Sim who is dating one who likes music (for example) to tour the Music Hall or some other venue. Or, I'll send them to the library if one has the bookworm trait. Sometimes, I'll pack a ball in my Sim inventory and send them out for a date at the park. The park is fun because there are always other Sims for both to interact with and it never get boring.

There's also usually a chess table for them to engage in a game of chess. Then, I may conclude the date by having a candle light picnic in the park or roasting food over the fire pit. If my Sim really likes the other, sometimes I'll have them prepare a group serving of that Sims favorite meal and find a good picnic table and 'call them to meal'. I also (using the 'go here with date' option) always have my Sims drive their dates home (by clicking the sidewalk outside of their house) before ending the date.

This thread reminds me of things my sims never do, like go to a movie or a restaurant. I thought these places are there to buy and earn money from other people who go there

So yeah, my sims are mostly outside and talk or play something. That may also be the tables in front of the restaurant, the parking lot of the gym or the space in front of the stadium. The latter place gets bonus points for offering free tours with some additional free public fun. You can even play soccer in the library.

Which reminds me I should probably sell all those flowers my sims never use. My hopes of opening a flower store haven't materialized so far.

Most of what I send my sims to do on dates is expansion content. If you have University Life, the bowling alley makes a good place for dates. I made a copy of the one from the university town and placed in in the bin with a few edits (like a professional bar). That’s definitely my favorite place to send my sims.

Otherwise, you could do a picnic on the beach. If you have Island Paradise send them for a romantic boat ride, or let them go jet skiing.

If you have Seasons installed the festival lots are nice for dates too. Skating, snowball fights, etc.

I rarely send my sims on dates but, when I do, it's usually only the teens. If I don't have too many sims in the household I will send them to a venue like the bowling alley or the beach and check in on them occasionally but when I just want them out of the way I go the rabbithole route and send them to a movie and dinner.

    You gotta hit the club!

Also, you can technically have a date at home. Watch some TV and have a pillow fight.

Go to a bar. Go to the park, especially on a festival day if you have seasons. The key to a Sims 3 date being good is the same as any group -- go to a few places and do things together. So go to the diner for an afternoon date, or go to the park for a picnic then do activities together. If the sims have mutual interests, say, fishing or martial arts or whatever, get some of that in as well. Just do fun things that get their mood up.

I mix and match several different locations and activities, depending on the traits and interests of the Sims involved or whatever sounds like fun. I tend to prefer outdoor date activities in general, and opt for indoor activities at night or when there’s bad weather. I also personalize my lots to have a variety of activities to choose from wherever they go.

Some options I’ve used (which will depend on the EP or Store content you have):

Visit rabbitholes (tours, woohoo, greeting card photos)
Eat out at bistro, diner or non-rabbithole restaurant, or have a picnic
    Theater (watch movie)
    Stadium (attend game or concert)
    Parks
    Beaches
    Pool lot
    Dates at home
    Nectary
    Hangouts
    Bars/clubs/lounges
    Simfests at performance venues
    Festival grounds
    Bowling alleys and arcades
Resort stays, diving, or other water activities like waterskiing or windsurfing
Store activities (gondola rides, roller coaster, circus, casino, Ren faire, etc.)
Use NRaas Traveler mod to take an extended “date” vacation in another world

A movie and then a restaurant? Jeez that's got to be a long date? Unless its a problem in my game, a meal at the restaurant takes about 5-6 hours in my Sim time. I have to start a restaurant date at around 5pm to get them out of there at a reasonable time! However my Sims do talk a lot. Sometimes its the only way to keep them all at the table.

Try performance venues or museums. Or a Karaoke venue? - Side note - what's with all the Karaoke venues recently? There's like 3 in San Myshuno?

@Lidiflyful - Yes, 5 or 6 hours for a meal at a restaurant does sound a bit excessive. But the game being discussed here is TS3, not TS4. The two games are quite different from each other. :)

Maybe a trip to the local spa together, and taking turns at giving each other some nice massage?

I use this mod so that an unrelated sim gets spawned to do the massage : http://modthesims.info/d/559245/professional-massage-table.html

You mean involving a random stranger to do it...? :o:s Nah, that wouldn't be romantic... not for a couple out on a date, all they want is to be left alone with each other.

Why not. I already had the situation that the first date was afterwards.

Well, if the sims want.

Now, on a more complete answer to the topic, I usually avoid rabbit holes like the theater or restaurant because I want to see and control my sims on the dates. My sims go on dates that fit their personality and most important, their current mood. The University offers great options with Bowling Alley and Coffee House, Bridgeport with bars and lounges. My sims also like to go out to dance and relax on the hot tub. Some couples are more alternative, like two brooding teenagers who liked to go to isolated places like the Stone Troll Fishing Spot on Moonlight Falls and talk about life, feelings and play their instruments.

Woohoo can be problematic on dates. I have had sims woohoo only to be immediately be told they have issues and the date ends. If my sims date, it's a date in name only and I try to avoid the date feature as much as possible. Most of the dates that have occurred in my game are because my sims grouped up without my knowledge and, when there's only two, the game reclassifies the grouping as a date :#

    Taking a skill class together.
Going out to the middle of nowhere to watch the stars.
Packing up a tent and setting up camp somewhere for the night.
    Having a bonfire.
    Experimenting with herbs :p
Inviting them over and making their favourite food.
    Playing a game of billiards/darts/shuffleboard/etc.
Take a stereo to the beach and have them relax.

@carvernosam Welcome to the forum :)
The thought of a mini-game makes me cringe. I don't like the idea of a mini-game or anything too scripted ... sandbox all the way for me! :D
