I created a new sim and am trying to give him the Ancient Bloodline trait. He is not yet a spellcaster. I turned on testing cheats. I used: traits.equip_trait trait_Occult_WitchOccult_BloodlineAncient, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I did a copy of the exact spelling from Carl Sims web site, and this was the one I used. I think for the cheat to work, you'll need to make your sim a spell caster first. I used this cheat for mine, and it did work. But I want to give you a heads up before you add this trait to your sim, there are some issues involving the ancient bloodline. I'm not sure what they are but others have mentioned it, but with me, my sim was having a problem in keeping all their spellcaster perks. For some reason, it would keep giving me back the points my sim had earned while constantly dropping what they had gained.
If you are playing a sim in a save that you really like do a temporary-save as and see how it goes.

I used cheats to give the senior witches in my coven the ancient bloodline trait and to max out their perks, only to experience the same problem as described by @LaBlue0314, which is very frustrating as I am unable to keep them at Virtuoso level, where I want them for storytelling purposes.
Obviously, it is up to you whether you want to take the risk of the same thing happening to you, but I would urge caution until the problem has been resolved.
you have to use a mod to temporarily fix this.
For example:
traits.remove_trait trait_Occult_WitchOccult_BloodlineWeak
traits.equip_trait trait_Occult_WitchOccult_BloodlineAncient
Worked for me, hope it works for you :)
