What do you hope University Adds?

If there are to be roommates, I hope that is optional, it's not terribly common here. That is, if it is meant literally, rather than people who have their own bedroom in a shared little, almost apartment, in dorms, with a common room/kitchen and possibly shared bathroom. There aren't many universities who have shared bedrooms here.

And yes, I would like a new world with plenty of lots. University students socialise a lot, some workout, and the odd one even studies!

Bands!!! But I'm asking myself if we will ever get them in Sims 4...

I don't see many players asking for bands

I am very excited for this EP! You have no idea! I feel it is gonna be kind of good (as far as the sims 4 can be..)
I wrote a whole idea board thread in this section of what I want to see a w few months ago, but to write some shortly in here:

    - The option to completely study from home like attending online classes and do small paid online courses to upgrade skills.
    - Applying for jobs based on the required skills/experience instead of every sim having to start from the bottom and work their way up.
    - Getting decent fitting jobs after you received a diploma and not just 3 levels up or totally unrelated jobs.
    - A bunch of new romantic options for teens and up. Online dating, cuddling on bed, new normal woohoo locations, asking to prom, kiss on the cheek, normal fast kiss on the lips
    - CARS in a free update before uni!
    - ROOMMATES! Not only in the uni world, but in every world. Like in TS3 when the roommate was a NPC living in your house and you didnt have to control them at all. But please let them do logic actions and not just act like most guests do in the sims 4 by standing around doing nothing for hours, just play on the pc and never sleep at night.
    - I want not only a good focus on uni, but also more options and open school possibilities for primary and high school. Such as prom, private school for the rich famous kids, open classes, meeting parents & and teachers night, after school events, sports events etc.

Like Cricket, Soccer, and Rowing? They're my preferences for 'university' sports.
    tailgate
What's that? Here, to tailgate, means to follow another car too closely, and risk an accident.

    Cheerleading/Gymnastics
    What about parkour?

    Cheerleading
Why is this even still a thing?

    Fraternities/Sororities
As an option to toggle off? The only time we hear about them here in Oz, is when there has been really bad behaviour. They have a terrible reputation outside of the US.

Events in main school hall (like career fairs, sorority/fraternity recruitments, athletic events, school spirit parades with mascots and cheerleaders)
What an odd bunch of activities for a main university hall.
One of the larger universities in this state has a magnificent hall, that is used for music, it has daytime concerts for the general public, choirs, orchestra, classical music.
Stuff similar to what you're talking about is done outside, on the lawns.
School Trips (to observe working environments)
Are you talking about high school? Because that's the sort of stuff I did in year 9.

Extracurricular classes/seminars that they can attend
Nice idea. Should also be open to non-uni student sims, perhaps as a quick career boost.

More takeout delivery options (fried rice, noodles, burgers, pizza, late snacks/desserts)
The game is really lacking there. They put in all those kiosk/booth things instead.

Dorm rooms (editable please), Roommates that we cannot control
They need a lot of flexibility on this. Share houses, and housemates, the ability to live off campus, and commute.
The concept of sharing your bedroom with someone who is not your sibling, nor your lover, is a bit odd to many Aussies.
    Murphy beds, bunk beds,
OMG! And loft beds! The game is really lacking in the space saving options.
And while we're on the topic, more drawers/dressers, and wardrobes that only take up a single square.
And tiny undercounter fridges... And wall mountable microwaves.

I am hoping all lots would be editable
I'm hoping for a lot of editable flexible options too. They really need to make things more versatile.

    -Online education

    -spacesaving stuff

    -hopefully something for all ages

-hope it will work with rotational play

-living in different ways, you don’t share bedrooms here. You share kitchen and living room mostly.

-not interested in cheerleading, not a thing here. But if it isn’t a big feature I guess it’s ok. A lot of animations would go to something I don’t enjoy. Oh well. As long as they don’t blow the budget on it.

Okay tbh I only read through the first page of this so I'm sorry if I'm sounding repetitive!

    I'd like:
    • Dorms, obvi
    • Bunk beds!
    • New careers - especially a teaching career, but also careers correlating to the majors included
    • New aspirations
    • Scolarships - MAYBE even loans - it would sort of make getting rich a little more difficult which I know is a downside to TS4's income system
    • Advance start in careers with earned degree
    • Secret Societies!! Like in TS2 University, how there was a secret lot (I think? Am I remembering that correctly? lol) that'd be cool. I understand I could make this with the club system but I want the kidnapping to happen with an introduction and acceptance/denial of joining, etc.
    • Additional part-time jobs
    • Additional quick meal options (instant noodles, microwave pizza, etc.)
    • Uncontrollable roommates (like, I can't play them. But if they're also crazy that just adds some drama lol)
    • Odd jobs that are specific to University life, such as moving, tutoring, modeling for figure drawing, fixing computers, hacking grades, etc. Some could be skill based and some can be active/skill based, similar to Island Living's odd jobs
    • Kegs of some kind
    • A social drinking action - I think at weddings you can make a toast and everyone gets a glass of wine or champagne or something of the like. Maybe at a house/dorm party there could be something similar
    • Matchmaker and other dating options! Blind dates, dating website type of thing
    • Photobooth
    • Different colleges - a sort of laid back and low key school, much like community colleges. Cheaper but maybe offers less amenities/off campus living. A private or prestigious University or Ivy League type of place - very proper and very expensive. And of course something in between.
    • Reunion parties!

I know Murphy beds are high on a lot of people's lists, but I only would want one if the space it saved was usable. For example if there was a Murphy bed that was also a desk with a chair, or there was some other function. Because if you have the bed, you can't place anything in that space it "saves" without cheating, which isn't an issue, but those items have to not show through the bed when it's down. Idk, it just seems like a waste of space if it doesn't have another function besides fold out bed.

University is such a good opportunity to add space saving objects to the game. I really hope they take full advantage of that.
  • jadonbakesjadonbakes Posts: 294 Member
Lots of people want bunk beds added, but what about an update that makes all twin beds bunkable? Place the bottom bed, then select a second bed, and be able to stack it over top. It would probably be tons of work to make sure each bed in game has a top-bunked version... but worth it, no?

Sorry! I forget that some terms aren't the same everywhere in the world lol I also live in a city where there's so much diversity and so many people and lotssss of things to do. SO most of the time, I'm just brainstorming and throwing ideas out there that were similar to my experiences.

To clear things up for you, In the U.S. , 'tailgates' are basically celebrating (pregaming) before a big university sports game. In the stadium parking lots, students/alumni drink, eat, bbq, etc. in the back of their trucks with the literal tail-gate down and being used as a surface for the drinks or as a seat. There are also booths around sometimes for water, school spirit gear, etc. 'Tailing' is when they drive too close behind you.

    For example:
    4ec15034ecad04da38000028-750-563.jpg
    016-um-tailgating-hard-rock-stadium-credit-christina-mendenhall.jpg

For competitive sports, I picked the common ones here in America but yes, it could be any sport. I know my university I think had bowling, powerlifting, american football, etc. I also included cheerleading since there are competitions for it and they usually cheer at the big sports games, around campus at the beginning of the school semester, etc.

In my university, there was this big hall for events/gatherings, like career fair where tables are set up, and it was adjacent to two big lawns where protests and larger events would happen, like concerts. For recruitment, we had many sororities, fraternities, and other clubs so sometimes it would start in the main hall and spill out into the lawn areas sometimes because there wasn't enough space inside the main hall. There was also a food court in that main hall.

Frats and sororities tend to have bad reputations because of how they are portrayed in movies as well as the news stories of the inappropriate things that members have done recently or terrible traditions that needed to be removed. I've never been in one and I never attended any parties due to my intense schedule, but the ones that I've heard about or seen around campus have been helpful in creating friendships and bonds, tutoring, networking, throwing parties, making lots of crafts and decorations, always fundraising, going on fun trips, etc. The ones who gained a bad reputation were quickly suspended or just banned altogether for their behavior.

I saw someone mention a pool table and that would be pretty cool to have at bars or lounge areas around campus. Some lounge areas are within libraries and have sleeping pods or study rooms maybe for tutoring. I also like the photobooth ideas.

By school trips, I meant like observing environments. Not silly school trips from high school. I guess for my major it was a bit different, but like for example, in my construction class, we would visit construction sites or go to warehouses that manufactured materials and etc. For designing interiors, we would visit different sites of the same typology that we were designing as we prepared case studies for them as research. I know medical students have mock-up hospital rooms and they shadow doctors at actual hospitals. Law enforcement has mock crime scenes. Theater students have their auditoriums and host shows, concerts, etc.

I would like to see them include roller skating, skateboarding, parkour, and gymnastics. Things that make our sims more active. Skate parks would be a cool thing to include. Extracurricular activities for a career boost is a great idea or even for learning new skills or improving on them. Maybe they get little certificates for completing classes, like certified in CPR, certified personal trainer, certified in sustainability, or certified in photoshop lol Something like that and it impacts their everyday lives or gives them new interactions for being certified in things.

Some dorms, you either share a room with someone you don't know or you have your own room but have a shared space such as the kitchen/dining and living room. Depends on the size of the apartment. Similar to the concept of hostels too. & yes I would also love the space saving options, like mountable microwaves, mini fridge that can be placed within counters, dressers that take up once space or are vertical.

One thing that I stopped to think about is that maybe we are already seeing some system that might appear in universities. In Realm of Magic besides having the vampire perk tree there is something new that is a book with 4 separate categories, for each spell, I believe that universities return with this style but instead of the 4 "schools of magic" have some material in specific skills, separate skills or even some great curriculum, I think this 'HUD' might return in universities like maybe the perk tree itself, since the same system appeared in get famous.

It would be very fun a school notebook that you could customize the phone case, when I imagine that I think of the menu that Life is Strange 1 had.

Thats interesting. Maybe depending on what major you choose, you get different perks.
Or maybe like in sims 3, with the different social groups like jocks, rebels, etc.

You can change the color of the phone case now actually, but I wish they could carry notebooks or sketchbooks in their hand. I want a dating system to customize their profiles for online dating

    Hmm...

If there is flexibility and I can do something for my occult sims, school for mermaids, aliens, vampires and spellcasters then I am much more excited about this theme.

Odd jobs are great, if we could get more of them I would be very happy! :)

For me, it's not about what's added but what's taken away. I don't want anything that is not directly related to University. I don't want bands, or grade/high school development, or anything else that would be more and better fleshed out in a GP or SP. Just because bands came in a Uni pack once does not make it a requirement for any Uni pack after that. I would prefer less silly, useless things that we probably rarely played more than twice and a more focused approach to Uni. When they focus and hone in on making the essentials outstanding, they do a better job and we get better packs.

A dorm/NPC roommate system that could come an apartment pack. Greek houses and the social aspects of it. I'd like it to feel more like an exclusive club that your sim got into than just a different place to live. And a much more in-depth Secret Society. One with a cool, hidden hang-out spot to meet in, a secret handshake, and more spooky, secretive meetings that could be called in the dark with candles and hooded robes. Nothing Satanic, just over the top like I've seen in movies. Devs, watch the skulls (the original) and maybe even Animal House. Maybe there could be secret "portal" behind a bookcase or painting of a fat lady that takes you to the Secret Societies secret sanctorum.

On line classes and night classes and other things like this are great ideas, but they can be added in a SP or even a patch like the freelance jobs were. Stuff like this doesn't need to take up space in the Uni pack.

Sometimes, I only post to remind people of this. :p

I also live in a city where there's so much diversity
Hmmm... I live in what is often the most diverse city in Australia, and no, not Melbourne. This is a tiny, tiny, mining and steel city, full of bogan, ferals, and international immigrants.

To clear things up for you, In the U.S. , 'tailgates' are basically celebrating (pregaming) before a big university sports game. Sounds vaguely like a ute muster. But more uni sports based....
    school spirit gear
What is that? Are your schools haunted?

Frats and sororities tend to have bad reputations because of how they are portrayed in movies as well as the news stories of the inappropriate things that members have done recently or terrible traditions that needed to be removed.
They are also excessively an american concept, and are not particularly diverse in theme, since they're not a thing in most of the world.

I saw someone mention a pool table and that would be pretty cool to have at bars or lounge areas around campus.
Around the campus? They're usually on the campus of the larger universities in Australia. Most people turned 18 during their final year of school, and for the handful that didn't, no one is checking their id when someone else at the table buys a jug of beer.

By school trips, I meant like observing environments. Not silly school trips from high school. I guess for my major it was a bit different, but like for example, in my construction class, we would visit construction sites or go to warehouses that manufactured materials and etc.
There was nothing silly about our school trip. In year 9, we visited a bunch of major workplaces, factories, labs, etc.
I know medical students have mock-up hospital rooms and they shadow doctors at actual hospitals. Law enforcement has mock crime scenes. Theater students have their auditoriums and host shows, concerts, etc.
That's not done as trips here, that's a part of the facilities for the course.

Tailgating in the US also means to follow closely behind someone not just Tailing.

Hmm... so you would rather see a University GP? Since they are usually focused. EP's are more broad and have a little something for everyone, or that's my impression so far.

I would like it to be highly customisable. This is one thing the sims 4 seems to do well (thinking about clubs, calendar, the game/magic/vampire systems). I would like to be able to make three-year degrees the norm. Here in the UK we don’t have majors or minors - you take a specific degree and then choose modules. I did a BSc in Psychology. The first year we had set modules where you learn a bit of everything, but after that we could choose areas that interested us. My third year completely different to one of my friends with my course reflecting all the biological/physiological/animal/evolutionary aspects of the study of psychology and hers reflecting her very different interests. I would like to be able to reflect this in game - but I don’t have high hopes.

I’d also like to see the introduction of post-grad course (masters, post grad teaching degree, law conversion degrees etc.) and also doctorates. It would be be great if sims can return to university to do a post grad at any point in their life if they already have a degree. My brothers and I all went on to do a post grad degree but all of us had a few years of work before we did so. I know a lot of people who didn’t go straight on to do a masters after their undergraduate years. It would also be great to have the option to do more than one undergraduate degree postgrad course.

I would like to see two different universities - possibly in the same world (though it would have to be a large one). One a more campus-based university and the other more urban, with buildings spread around the town. It would be entertaining to generate sports rivalries between the two. I was part of my university (field)hockey team and we had a friendly rivalry with other local universities. It would also be great to have more choices. I also don’t have high hopes for this.

It would be nice to have a mixture of accommodation types. Here it’s pretty standard to spend your first year of uni in a hall of residence (sort of like US dorms - it’s actually a complex of self contained flats with around 6 bedrooms each and a shared kitchen/living space) and then move into shared houses after that. I’d like my young adult sims to live in shared houses (as I did that long after uni as well - many young people live like that here) where I don’t have to play their housemates. That would be a great feature to see across the whole game.

I’d like to see energy drinks introduced to get sims through all night cramming/essay finishing sessions. I was always a last-minute kind of student and was always finishing an essay or assignment through the night before it was due. Couldn’t have done it without red bull! I’d like this more generally in game as there are times coffee just doesn’t cut it.

A band system - it may work better in a game pack, but I really miss this feature and really want it to return. I want more instruments. Uni wouldn’t be uni without student bands playing at the dive bars/pubs/student union.

    Other things:
    - laptops that work on laps or when sims are reclining in bed or on a lounger
    - Backpacks/satchels that our sims can carry that are a portable inventory with a limit to how much they can carry
    - More take away options
    - A students union lot type with clubs your sim can join (not clubs in the GT sense)
    - More variety of part time jobs
    - a Rota system maybe for roommates that aren’t playable. You could set whose turn it is to clean/do laundry/repair broken items/cook possibly. My shared living experiences are filled with “house meetings” where we endlessly discussed whose turn it was to do x, y, z. It would be nice to have a simple way to set out shared responsibilities for sims we can’t control so that our own sim doesn’t have to do it all
