Cruise GP?

«1
Just an idea. What if Sims could go on cruise ships?

Call the phone for vacation, choose a cruise, load on the "world" - which is just a big boat in the ocean - have a fun cruise.

would love for my sims to go on a cruise but the fun part of a cruise is also visiting diffrent ports of calls where sims could go shoping or learn to cook te local specalty of the place they visitied to make at home for the family.

I'd buy that! Even if they made the boat be 5-6 lots, all long and somewhat narrow, and made the space in between the lots be decorated like a ship, so that the entire thing looks connected. It could even be multi-leveled as most cruise ships are.
It's kind of sad that I have to point out that anything I say is only just my opinion and may be a different one from someone else.

I was thinking about this. I think after a couple days the boat could “land” at one of a few little ports. I don’t think there’d be more than two or three lots max at each one (like, a marketplace and a restaurant/bar at most, maybe even just one “port” lot with some food and shopping), but each one could have some unique souvenirs and food and music, with the map for the area showing the boat for you to click on when you’re ready to take the return voyage. I’d think the main focus would be the activities on the boat, though.

What would be really neat (though maybe too much to ask?) would be if the pack added the option to different careers to find gigs on a cruise. So if you were an entertainer (comedy or music) you could apply to work a cruise for extra cash, and then at certain times you’d have a small little active career activity where you play your gig on the boat, with free time in between. Or, maybe if you’re a chef or mixologist, you could work a shift on the boat cooking or mixing drinks.

I’m also just thinking of the kinds of cruises you could go on. Like maybe you’d “design” your cruise - like setting restrictions for clubs or holidays. So you could say it’s a romantic mood cruise for young adult singles. Or a celebrity cruise. Or a family cruise. With a few different activities available depending on what kind of vibe and guest type you select. Like if it’s a family cruise costume characters show up for kids, or a singles cruise might have speed dating, or a celebrity cruise might have celebrity meet and greets. That kind of thing.

Yes this is something I have wanted a while and it could bring actual scuba diving with no rabbithole and resorts cruising liner style.

Yes! I was thinking about this! Engaged couples could take a "wedding cruise" and invite along a bunch of guests and get married on board! Especially if there were a couple different ship themes for them to choose from.

It'd also be fun (I realize there aren't officiants for weddings in-game, but regardless) if on non-wedding cruises couples could decide on a whim to get married and ask the captain to marry them.

I like the idea of a wedding cruise, romantic cruise, family cruise, club cruises, maybe even a seniors cruise and a cruise where you could take your animals. But one thing I want more that anything if we do get a cruise ship is casino stuff!

    I like this idea!

I think I would want it in a Vacation pack, though. We could have cruises, traditional resorts/hotels (travel to another land-based world for a limited time), and maybe a theme park-type resort, all together.

The devs have stated that they looked in to that but could not make it work sorry

TS3 already has something like this. Maybe the devs can take a look at it to get some ideas:

This cruise ship is a TS3 world. The lots are empty, but some wonderfully creative builder made this for the cruise ship:

So this is quite possible! If a cruise ship with functional lots can be made in TS3 by fans, it can be made by devs in TS4.

^ Oh wow. The creativity of Sims players never ceases to amaze me.

And I always liked the idea of sims going on a cruise. It could definitely work as a vacation GP where the cruise ship is the entire "world" as some others have mentioned

I love this idea. Family members have gone on a cruise and loved it so I think it would be a lot of fun. I'm actually hoping to go on a cruise myself in a year or so too.

Mediterranean cruises, Scandinavian cruises, New Zealand cruises....

And not all cruise ships are massive

This would be so fun. They've managed to make vacation worlds and lots already and in previous games. Surely there is a way that it could be adapted for Sims to be able to go on cruises? 7, 10 or 14 nights.
I love the idea of weddings and let's not forget cruise ship entertainment, restaurants etc. And calling in to local towns. Id love a system like in TS2 where you can learn some of the culture like local greetings

as long as there's a theme park "GP" to go with it.. because a certain "Magical place on Earth" has cruises as well. I mean there are cruises which have kids on them and a theme park GP could have a theme kids cruise

Ho-ly! How did I not know that this existed? It's magnificent. I can't wait to kit it out and to play it.

Since weddings were mentioned on a cruise ship let's not forget a Heart Shaped Hottub for two should be added in a vibrating heart shaped bed and heart shaped fireplace.

this may be a bit off topic but if you look at the oasis class ships from royal caribbean they have put up water slides for kids and the family a carousel ect and say if its a family cruise the mom and dad wents to enjoy a formal night diner with out the kids they take the kids to eat at the buffet restaurant and then call for the ship to send a care taker for the kids while the parents enjoy a nice meal then a night show while the kids are being cared for by the ship onboard nanny service.

That sounds great, maybe the modders can do that for us.

I would certainly use it. And I also hope that the boats will "dock", and you can do shore excursions, just like in real life.

Love the idea of cruise ships! I'd however prefer a cold weather destination. Alaska, maybe Norway.

Some of the most popular towns and cities to visit in Alaska are ports of call many cruise itineraries stop at while cruising the state.

Juneau: Alaska's capital city is a great port of call for cruisers who love animals. Take part in a whale watching tour during which you may see the impressive Humpback whale, plus other sea animals like seals and sea lions. The port of Juneau is also nearby the Pack Creek Brown Bear Viewing Area, which is a protected area that lets brown bears live in their natural habitat and it is home to the largest percentage of brown bears in one area.

Anchorage: Anchorage is often the northern most port cruises visit. It is home to snowcapped mountains and glaciers, providing impressive scenery. Some of the most popular excursions in Anchorage include ice and snow. Take part in a flight over glaciers and even land on top of one. Or play with man's best friend and race through the snow as huskies pull you on a dog-sledding adventure.

Ketchikan: Did you know Alaska has rainforests? It does and you can explore the rainforests via the port of Ketchikan on your Alaska cruise. Try ziplining over the rainforest canopy at an adventure park. You can also partake in a nature hike through the forest plus glide down a lake on a Native American style canoe as you learn about the history of Ketchikan and the Native American past of the area.

Skagway: Take part in the river life of Skagway by trying the historic pastime of panning for gold while learning about the history of the practice, or by going white-water rafting down the river for a more adventurous excursion.

I’ve wanted this for a very long time. I think it’d work very well, considering TS4 is a closed world. They could very easily set up the illusion that the boat is actually moving, and change scenery now and then.

It would be nice if, amongst the new features and such it would bring, it tied into all existing and new destinations. Perhaps the cruise could transport you to any location, and simply be a vacation on the way to your real vacation.

Cruise Ship was literally on their own game pack survey, before the base game even came out.
    Cruise ship:
Sail the high seas on board a beautiful cruise ship luxury! Dine at the poolside bar, turn other Sims challenge during a basketball game, or stay in your private cabin and share a romantic moment on the veranda.

It is, however, very unlikely to be made as it did terrible in focus group testing according to SimGuruGrant.

That's a bummer! I wonder how it was presented to the focus groups, or which parts did badly? Did it do badly as a solo idea, or did it do badly compared to the popularity of other ideas?

Because if they said "Would you like to take your sim on a cruise?" I imagine most people would be like "yeah, that could be fun"

But if it was pitted against anything "which would you rather have, cruises or a tropical island?", "which would you rather have, cruises or farming?" or "rank these five potential new packs in order of how much you want them" then I imagine it would be completely bulldozed by the relative popularity of other ideas. Which is a shame, because I think if implemented correctly cruises could become a vital part of Challenge and Story gameplay. Being cut off from the other worlds while on the boat really could add a new flavor to playing the game.

I'd be interested to know what the research looked like and how it was framed, though obviously there's not much we can do about it now. I can't imagine Strangerville (which I haven't played, but would very much like to!) was all that requested by focus groups, but they made that anyway. I imagine because they had a vision for it and knew it could be fun. In my wildest dreams I can hope someone has similar ideas about how good a cruise GP could be, and would make it anyway.

    But probably not. :(
