Trying to play with this lot but I have some questions:
1. My sim still has bills. I didn't question this at first, but then someone said we're not supposed to have bills with off the grid?
2. My sim seems unable to put out fires. Is this is a problem specific to off the grid?
I haven't had time to play lately, so I'm getting my fix with a few minutes here or there in the forums! Do off-the-grid Sims get bills or not?
I don't know yet. Others have said no. But my young couple aren't quite ready to tie the knot.
You can make herbalism recipes on grills too. They don't get stuck so you can queue multiple herbalism actions.
However, if you do make them on a stove an extra dose is produced - this is what gets stuck on the hob. Moving the stove into the household inventory separates them, but means you have to go into build mode after each potion.
Today, while playing in my off-the-grid lot, I learned that although it wouldn't allow my Sim to clean the toilet, (she threw up, twice) it would allow her to upgrade it to auto-clean. So nice to have a fresh toilet again. Happily, she had the parts needed in her inventory.
Beware allowing your Sims to become energized. Whenever i have a sim become energized they stop being able to use the shower, i think it's because the 'Speedy shower' option replaces the ' quick and tepid' option much as it usually replaces the normal shower option but sims can't select anything but 'quick and tepid' on an off-the-grid lot.

Again, thanks for the heads-up! At least one of my Sims is now no longer complaining of the brackish water, which I found hilarious.
My SIM is autonomously cleaning a plumbing fixture. Does this mean if it's "their idea" they can clean objects off grid?
I don't know about that, but I have found out through playing that if your Sim upgrades the toilet to self-clean and the sink, too, then it's clean again! Yay. I make sure anytime they fix things that they scavenge for parts. If they don't have enough of what they need, I will send my Sim to a public spot, with his own portable computer, then he can get online and order what he needs.

Sorry a long shower lol but I did watch the hygiene go up to just make sure. Gotta love walking through a wall of flies and the first thing you do right outside the outhouse is dig for shells.
But I love the sound of the ocean in the video.

Thanks @GalacticGal , I was just wondering if this was one of those weird backdoors like the toddler can ask for a bath but the player selects the tub it’s blocked, meaning players interactions are affected but SIM actions are not blocked. I guess another question would be: Could they wash a counter if they decide themselves to do so? My SIM can’t afford a house yet so no counters right now.

By the way that does work. Just tried it out in my game. His auntie showed up out of the blue and while his mother, her sister, was busy entertaining the newcomer, Joseph managed to soil his diaper. He's just a toddler and still in training. But, his hygiene went south, of course. I had her change his diaper, but that by itself didn't fix his hygiene. So, I had him ask for a bath. The tub itself wasn't working. I changed it for that do-it-yourself version and had him ask his mother under the toddler help menu for a 'bath'. Again, yes it was grayed out, yet suddenly Mama was carrying him over to the tub. Yay. He's almost as fresh as a daisy again. LOL
Now, if I could just get his auntie to go back home …

I've been getting upgrade parts by using bb.showhiddenobjects and typing upgrade into the search in buy mode. It costs the same as buying it from the pc so its not as if your cheating out of the cost. I did initially try putting upgrade parts in a retail store so sims could go in and buy them, but when I realised I'd have to log into the family that owns it every time to restock I decided it was simpler to just buy them in buy mode each time.
There are so many things that should work but don’t in off the grid. I hope the game devs are working on it. I really do love the off the grid game play. No constant tv, computer play, radios, and playing phone games is so relaxing I’m actually starting to that irl (except for playing Sims, of course.) my main gripe is the water issue. Humans and can survive without electricity but NOT without water. Maybe there could be someway to get at least a limited amount of water to change wash tubs etc. or a way to bring water from another location. I finally decided that I would do what frontier sims would do. On Saturday night I turn of the off the off grid lot trait and let them all take a bath, cook some fancy meals, order upgrade parts from a laptop, etc. then turn it back on. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s better than nothing :)
Does the mailbox need electricity? I haven’t received any letters or packages yet.
No. It just takes someone to send something to your Sims. My Sim couple got mail when their infant aged up to toddler. All three, as they have had them in rapid succession. I know, I know. I now have three toddlers, and she's preggars again!

I just discovered a workaround for baking a birthday cake when playing off-grid. My Sim's husband (since I use the RTF mod) has become a hit on Simstagram. He has two Obsessed Fans who are often leaving tiered cakes, a pile of trash and a plate of Ambrosia. While my Sim has been able to sell the Ambrosia at §2500 a plate! He hasn't been able to snag the cakes (three of which were left across the street from his new house.) That was my first resolution to my problem. Instead, I sent his wife to Val's Bar & Grille to bake the cake. She did so without incident and was even able to pack it into her inventory! I was wary this wouldn't work, because I discovered my Sims can't order stuff at a public spot unless they bring a portable laptop with them and use that. But, she got the cake she needed in time for the party.

I have updated this to say since update I have received a bill.

The trait isn't working for me on my current save, though.
I would suggest you do a 'repair' game. My Sims are living off-the-grid, too, and so far no bills of any sort.

Hmm... I haven’t experimented much with this trait yet. Can it depend on how much stuff you have on the lot or the inventory?

It would be great if we could have a special filter for everything that works with the trait.
@Mariefoxprice83 I agree, a filter would be really useful
