I'm not happy about this. I have all packs except for Island Living. I paid full price for most of my packs. I would have enjoyed having some "new" clothing items too, not just recolors of stuff I paid for. These are meshes I paid for. Players who support the game by buying packs don't deserve free new content ? Recycling is not free new content.
When you advertise free new content, it has to be free and new for all the players.
Here are 4 of the DLC to BG assets for comparison. Top row are the new swatches that got added to BG. Bottom row are the new BG swatches combined with the pack swatches. I took these screenshots before and after disabling all packs.
Ooh, so basically none of the swatches that came with the packs show up then if you don't have it?
Doesn't bother Me at all, in fact I am happy that those that didn't have these things can now have something extra. Kind of shocking to see the responses to this poll..wow
You have such a kind heart.
But I think if we are all gonna be okay about this, the devs are gonna keep on doing it more and more. I was already really mad about them giving the photography skill to base game when it was supposed to be part of GTW.
I'm not super mad about these CAS items compared to the photography skill tho, but it still makes me feel a bit cheated.
Maybe it's just me since I don't use CC which are usually free, so all the content I get in my game are bought; thus it just feels a bit weird that there are people out there who gets the stuff for free that I bought, given by the company themselves. 🤷♀️
I like how the focus shifted to "omg you guys are so stingy why can't you share", completely bypassing the fact that EAxis is literally recycling content and passing it off as "fresh new".
Everyone just accepted that as normal, and a thing we should actually be grateful for. Okay then.
A McDonalds employer comes to you, takes your nuggets and your fries away without even asking, and gives it to someone who hasn't even selected what they want to eat. How would you feel honestly?
Bad analogy. You still get to use the items even when they're offered to other people. A better analogy might be you order your food and eat it, then the next day there's a coupon on the McDonald's website offering that exact same meal free to everyone. They're not taking away content, just opening it up to other people.
I don't really care if they want to offer a few more pieces of CAS free. Another thing to consider is that it expands meshes for CC creators thus giving them more to work with. Complaining about this feels a little petty.

I understand the points being made, I am not saying I don't ♥ I typically don't like to give my opinion, because it's not always the popular opinion lol, but you addressed my comment very kindly and respectfully..thank you for that!
I'm not bothered. It doesn't affect me if others have access to items that originally came from the packs. I don't feel cheated as I got what I paid for and I've enjoyed the items for as long as I've had them.
More miffed that it's recycled content. I'd rather new ideas as opposed to recolors but it's free so can't complain too much. It does kind of cheapen some of the stuff packs though but I think that sort of hurts the franchise more than me as a player.
Im pretty neutral to be perfectly honest. Seems lazy to me, but its not like significant gameplay was thrown into the BG. I really dont care about a couple hairs being thrown in, but I'd care if say you can build a restaurant (but not run it though) in the BG. Now that I would get my jimmies rustled over.
Yeah, 'cause if I wanted recolors I'd hop on tumblr and barrel roll through adfly links
I'd like new items in general. It doesn't need to be a ton of them, just something new. As I said in another thread, money is still money, so yes I'd be annoyed if something I paid for is in base game, swatches or not. This is just as bogus as the GTW photography skill being patched into base game 🙄
I don't begrudge the basegame people getting something for free- basegame updates benefit everyone, and I understand not everyone can afford packs. This is not why I'm annoyed.
The problem is that some of these packs, especially the SP's, don't have a lot of content to begin with (so instead of getting unique items, loyal and new pack buyer players just get re-colours), and as many other commenters said, this update was advertised as a 'new' look for the sims, a brand redesign, all exciting etc when it wasn't. If the sims team didn't have enough time/resources, at the most basic level, they could have just included some re-colours of bg items; plenty of things need it, such as the dressing gown, underwear options and swimwear. I would have even been quite happy with the meshes only slightly edited (add a pocket to the shirt, texture to the jeans, whatever) so they weren't exactly the same as the pack items, but took less time than creating new items.
This way though, doesn't feel new; the fact that all these items were taken out at once, when they are items I personally use a lot, and therefore made the packs worth buying, makes me feel a bit cheated as a consumer. I like these items because they made my sims look more modern - I have always asked for more modern clothing options such as skinny jeans and tucked shirts in the surveys. I want more meshes like this, not less, because then I can have two sims wearing the same style of clothes, but still look different, and base-game players are able to use modern items that aren't direct copies from those available in the packs.
When I say I don’t care, I truly don’t. It’s a handful of items in comparison to the hundreds/thousands of paid content. Marketing it as new items is pretty crappy and gamers deserve transparency, but I’ve seen less complaints about that and more about a HANDFUL of paid content items being converted to base game for everyone’s use and yes, it does come off as whiny. Of all the things I think need to be prioritized, this is not one of them.
Money isn’t free! If they want to add some new assets to the game to make it seem fresher then they should make some new assets. Recoloring assets people paid for and handing them out as an incentive for new players to buy the game is beyond tacky. Shows minimal effort went into this whole rebrand. As if the visuals weren’t a good enough sign.
i don't mind, i pay $40 for these packs like a fool and half of you wait a couple of weeks and get them for $5 or something crazy like that. not all that different to me.

Haha, you're welcome. I really respect people who can feel happy for others and I don't intend to be rude to others who disagree with me; I'm just kinda selfish sometimes (I even know it's one of my bad traits LOL. ). Yeah...
Yes but mainly due to the stuff pack items. That’s just wrong I literally bought those packs for the items so why add any of them in the BG for free? That’s just not okay.
Ya they shouldn't touch stuff pack items, those packs already have the least value. As for the other items I'm ok with it, honestly I'm kind of happy they added those items to base game. Base game finally has a proper pair of skinny jeans and a beanie! Two universal and versatile pieces of clothing. Also the jacket they added from Get Famous is a stylish coat for cold weather, and I feel like the females are lacking in cold weather outfit options.
i'm not livid, but it does seem kind of unfair. my first thought was, "hey, i paid for that, and these people are getting it for free?"
i think they should add another item to the packs they took these ones from to balance it out. if not, meh, i don't really care, as long as it's only one small CAS thing from each pack and not an entire game feature
EDIT: i just got a SOUR taste in my mouth having my sim try on the unisex beanie from Get to Work. i don't have that pack, i didn't PAY for that pack, and i get the item... it just feels wrong. i feel like every who has Get to Work and paid for it is being cheated for this

I don't like GTW much after replaying the jobs and retail over and over again but if there's one thing I love it for was the beanie. Almost all my sims wear it! So this hurt my soul a bit. LOL. Why can't they just do a new model of a beanie...??

Don't worry, I paid for GTW and I am happy to share the beanie with you.
What bothers me the most about the whole thing is the fact I don't want these swatches. If I had wanted more swatches I wouldn't mind. I don't have a choice in what I want to add to my game anymore. That's the rub. Stop deciding what is added to the game for me. I want the option to choose rather than being forced to accept everything they have in mind to add to patches and updates. It's getting really old. This patch is totally worthless when it comes down to actually fixing any of the glitches and bugs from Island living. I have a mod that fixes the toddler issue. I am not having any problems with saving the game so why do I need to install any part of this patch? For more free stuff I won't use? For a simple cheat to unlock environment decor I will never use? Oh, I know why....so I'll be coerced into installing the rebranding changes. Well, sorry to tell you this, EA, but that's not going to happen anytime 'soon'. Probably not until after the new year rolls around. But giving away new swatches for meshes we paid for, is a bit low. I can understand updating the base game and all, but when are these freebies for the base game going to end so we can look forward to new features?
