I've read that 200 sims is the maximum recommended for favourited households but in my game is says 150 is the maximum recommended and if I opt for 200 warns me that the game will run and load slower, so am a bit confused.
are you still playing on console? though, even for the non-upgradable console stuff 150 seems a bit low, esp considering the number of packs that you can eventually pick up there. (they usually wind up having to expand the max number of sims in general with each major pack. like i'm hoping for a bit of a bump because of island living, but we'll see tomorrow)

The game will use your specs to recommend an option to you. I wouldn't worry too much about going beyond the recommendation; any slowness that results might be well within your tolerance. Just know that it's one of the things you can control.

About that culling limit,as well as favorited household are excluded from culling, that 675 limit include favorited sims, or limit is 675 + favorites?
We can't know about today's patch till it's out, and @Neia will check, I'm sure, when she gets a chance.

Housed Sims will generate tombstones upon their death, including when you are not on the lot when they die. Tombstones are not generated for Sims that died before the November 7, 2017 patch.
Ghosts have a culling timer, which is set on death to 90 days. When that has counted down to 14 days, you will be notified that that Ghost is nearing the end of availability. At this point, tombstones get the interaction 'Strengthen Connection to the Physical World,' which resets the culling timer for that Ghost back to 90 days.
Culling is something I only just recently found exists. It confuses me. Is it possible to stop it happening?
Yes, you can turn off culling in MC Command Center or with @Neia's No Culling mod. Links are on p. 1.

Very useful thread. I have favourited 300 households and so far no problems. Though I am using NPCC to limit the generation of townies and instead use my existing sims for NPC roles so that my game doesn’t get flooded with ugly sims. In fact since having it the only sims that get generated are selvadorian natives.
I am not sure if it’s related to this but I am seeing any sims who did not have children disappearing from my family tree - is this expected behavior or is there a way to turn this off? Thank you!

I too have noticed this issue. My Sim had siblings who lived outside of the household but eventually, when their ghost got culled they disappeared entirely from the Family tree, no trace. I assume this is unintentional?
As when my Sims parents get their ghost culled they at least remain in the family tree.
