@Rflong7 @greenXen Thank you  (greenXen, your signature, how did you do that, love it, all those characters)

A little time, and a bit of Photoshop. Not nearly as complicated as what you've done.

So, I'd like to add pictures now from the mall and how things worked out in live mode. Which concerns an area in the game I never really checked out before. I had a lot of fun with it, I must add though I'm curious how long that will last, if it's not a 'till the novelty wears off' thing.

The first visitors were my sim's plantsim sister Bryony and her family. At 6AM mind you, such enthousiasm. While mom immediately headed to Lady's Fashion, the guys took the elevator to be able to enter the sports shop upstairs (since the door downstairs was still locked, opening at 8AM). Mom didn't have a problem to enter Fashion's because those stores are behind the barrier-to-entry system (thanks for that tip @CravenLestat , when I started building this). Set to respectively just allow males and females, to keep the ITF mannequins strictly the gender as intended.

    screenshot-416_orig.png

Sometimes life is simple and just seeing a couple of sims using an elevator you placed, enough to make you ecstatic.

Next time I opened my game the bakery appeared to be very popular. Nobody bought the cakes, created years ago by genie Silas but still very delicious. Absolutely perfect, to be more precise. Sims looked but didn't purchase though.

    screenshot-428_orig.png

Lady's Fashion had non buying clients as well.

    screenshot-432_orig.png

In the meantime a guy I initially named mister Bald had entered the bakery, apparently determined to make a scene by attacking the poor cashier.

    screenshot-435_orig.png

After this I saw him leaving the shop, heading upstairs. Curious what he had in mind, I followed him.

    screenshot-436_orig.png

    screenshot-438_orig.png

    screenshot-440_orig.png

    screenshot-444_orig.png

Sometimes life is simple and just seeing a sim using a launderette/laundromat you created for looks, enough to make you ecstatic.

Back in the bakery the dust had settled again.

    screenshot-448_orig.png

    The launderette got another customer.

    screenshot-457_orig.png

    screenshot-459_orig.png

Sims really don't like noise do they.

    screenshot-462_orig.png

Nothing wrong with doing something useful while waiting for your clothes to get clean.

The only shop that constantly was crowded was the bakery. But the pies stayed untouched. Were all residents on a diet?

    screenshot-468_orig.png

And why is Cameron's very married friend Naomi drinking tea with some mysterious, goodlooking stranger!?...

    screenshot-470_orig.png

I was a bit worried what would happen to the laundry in the machines, so when I witnessed mr. Bald going upstairs again, I waited expectantly.

    screenshot-475_orig.png

    screenshot-477_orig.png

Yeah yeah yeah, noisy, I get it.

    screenshot-478_orig.png

    YES!

    screenshot-481_orig.png

    screenshot-488_1_orig.png

Sometimes life is simple and just seeing a sim actually sitting down on one of the chairs you put there for exactly that purpose, enough to make you squeak.

Naomi appeared to have left mister Sunglasses to check out some bridal dresses. You're already married, girl!

    screenshot-495_orig.png

"So? I like them and I have the money."

    screenshot-498_orig.png

    screenshot-502_orig.png

"And I like that one too."

    screenshot-506_orig.png

    screenshot-508_orig.png

18:00 PM, closing time! Everybody out please.

    screenshot-519_orig.png

And sure enough, Naomi appeared to have bought the third bridal dress as well :D

If people have malls to share (pictures or files), please do! Actually I remember it was a topic like this that once inspired me to build this one.

Every mall needs a Mr Bald!
I have only visited the Gallery in Oasis Landing, never built one myself; but this makes me curious on how it works. I tried to build a toy store once, but the sims were very picky customers so the fun part was mostly in setting it up; but then my sim did spent most his time elsewhere chasing other sims so perhaps that was why.

In one save the household owned a bakery, where they hung out every day. That was lovely to decorate, I chose a very flowery theme, sugar sweet with a marriage arch on the top floor. Did not see any inactive sims use it though, but they bought the cookies and pies my sim made (and later on cheat-copied into creation). It also had the Business Time Industrial Oven, selling appropriate dessert food, which also sold well. But I think the lot itself generated money, that must have been separated from the actual sales. I don’t remember the lot assignment (visitors allowed maybe).

Lovely to see your sims enjoying themselves :) Do you think the sim who bought 3 wedding dresses is trying to tell you something ?

@Auroraskies Yes, I visited the Gallery in Oasis as well, but not liking the ITF outfits, my sim never bought anything there. Didn't pay much attention to it back then to be honest, I had no idea you could also dress the mannequins yourself and use them in stores like this. I also tried out the stores in Midnight Hollow, but also rather as the customer (my sim), not creating one myself. Oh, and indeed the bakery, Cameron's mom actually worked there briefly (so that's just one generation ago). Do you have pictures of the bakery, great idea to combine that with the wedding location. But I indeed don't think sims will do that autonomously.

As for the Business Time Industrial Oven, it could also be a nice idea to add a restaurant to the mall, come to think of it. Never did that either. Sims do buy things in the Mall, I frequently get money, also when I'm nowhere near the mall. So sims visit it regardless if I'm there or not apparently.

@Bettyboop55 LOL, who knows but I hope not  She has such a lovely husband, Emilio. Funny enough, when I returned to Cameron after closing time (I'd been hanging out in the mall all day, basically leaving the family to their own devices), she was at a party and Emilio was the first sim I saw. Couldn't help feeling sorry for him ;)

    screenshot-521_orig.png

I bet he's cooking dinner for his lovely wife :weary:

My mother always threatened to wear hers while cleaning the house (to surprise the door-to-door salespeople, I think) and when going bowling when my father tried to get her interested in joining a league.

She wasn't serious, but the lessons I learned by watching her at such an early age are that sanity is overrated and people should wear whatever they want to. ;)

Lol, there's truth in that haha. But three brand new wedding dresses? I must confess I added a low and graceful fence in front of the wedding dresses now, I don't want every girl in town being dressed as if it's the most wonderful day of their life.

That is exactly why she needs four!

Sorry to say I don't have any pictures from the bakery save, I did not take any; no matter how funny that may sound
I know that a wedding arch at a resort result in guests marrying eachother, but did just try out the feature briefly, so do not know if they stick to them, so to speak. Maybe Naomi was planning a couple of short vacations

@igazor and @JoAnne65 perhaps the lady wants a reconciliation with that rather hansom neglected husband of hers. Perhaps she wants that reconciliation to have public recognition in the form of a renewal of marriage vows. At this stage she simply can't make her mind which dress to have and got all three. Or perhaps as @igazor suggests she wants some new outfits for when she does the housework. Personally I would have got new overalls. A lot cheaper :D

Beautiful mall. I’ve got two in my studio that I built soon after Savvy Seller was released. I’ll try to remember to post links and pictures when I get home and have access to my computer.

I found having multiple savvy seller registers on one lot led to a similar problem as schools. All the sims arriving for work in the building line up and enter one at a time so it’s best to have an opening time that is different from times when other lots have sims arriving for work or school. Mt solution though was to avoid hiring register attendants unless they were needed. Sims can buy from savvy seller shelves etc without a register.

Edit. Also the sims can buy anything on the lot that is on a savvy seller mat or shelf etc from all registers on the lot.

@simgirl1010 Thank you, yes, so far it is fun, though there’s not much to the business part of it all. It’s rather the sims’ behaviour I enjoy. It might be nice in the future to make my sims really buy their clothes and furniture there.

@Karritz I hope you will! Like I said I was inspired to start building this mall when there was a topic here showing them. Maybe it was yours? As for the savvy seller registers, for me the problem wasn’t that sims lined up, the employees didn’t stay at the register they were hired for but walked around, and I hardly had other sims anymore (like in the pictures on this page like mr. Bald and Naomi and mr. Sunglasses; those pictures were taken before I hired the cashiers). I fired them all now and customers indeed return now ánd they buy. Not even sure what the function of the cash registers is?

You can click on the cash register or the item to buy it. I think the item needs to be on a ss mat or shelf or pedestal. Even items hanging from the ceiling are buyable. In game I find clicking on the items easier as the cash register lists everything on the lot that counts as being in contact with a savvy seller thing. Even windows and. Curtains. The register lists everything. For example, If you have 10 of something it is listed 10 times.

I find the register attendants wander off too. I only hire one if I decide I want them in one of my videos. I rarely put these stores in my big game worlds now though due to memory usage. I have hundreds of sims in most of my worlds in that game. Over 800 sims in total. And that keeps increasing.

@Karritz I'm going to keep the cash registers, indeed like you say for - in my case - picture purposes, but when playing I'll leave them unoccupied. I'll see if the mall will be too heavy, so far my game seems to be fine with it. I think what igazor said earlier is true though, it's wiser to create several stores. The way they did in Midnight Hollow, in one street.

@ClarionOfJoy LOL, yes, they clearly did (and for secret dates :p ). They're nothing like me, for me tea is just the excuse to order scones or cake

@igazor It's worth the try haha!

@JoAnne65 Cashiers do tend to leave their registers and go to a different part of the shop now and then, but always return when you click on the register and select for your sim to buy something. There is nothing new about that, but when you build a mall, the entire mall becomes the space they're allowed to wander around in while waiting for customers.

I built a mall for Hylewood, a tiny island with less than 20 lots, none of them being very large either. I wanted all rabbitholes and all of the non-rabbithole community lots I send my sims to regularly, and the only way to accomplish that was to make a few very multi-purpose community lots. The first one I made was a 23x22 lot I designated as a library and named public services. Besides for the library, I built a small graveyard and a playground, and a small building with a restroom and stairs going underground, where I placed the Lunar Lakes rabbithole portals for the school, stadium, city hall, police, and military.

On a 20x30 lot at the edge of the island below the water, I built a lot designated as an art gallery, named the Waterfront. Besides that library, it has a small non-rabbithole cafe with a food register and a barista bar.

My mall is on the largest lot in Hylewood, 40x40. At first I designated it as a big park, but when I tested it, I found that stylists and tattoo artists won't be assigned unless the lot is designated as a salon, so I changed it. The front 2/3 of the lot is the central park, with a long, narrow, three story building along the back of the lot, containing the mall. In the mall are a gym with a pool, a bowling alley, salon, consignment shop, martial arts academy, and a recreation center. Underground are the rest of the rabbitholes, mostly the Lunar Lakes portals, with the smallest science center in the library, which happens to also be the hospital. The cashiers, stylists, and tattoo artist even go to the basement level in this one. So if I send my sims to the consignment shop, they might have a long wait for the consignment specialist to show up, though when I was playing there, my artist never did have to wait to consign her paintings.

I do have pictures of all three lots, which I can post if anybody wants to see them, though they're not nearly so elaborate as your mall's shops.

@IreneSwift Thanks for your insightful post. That indeed makes sense, the cashiers doing what they always do (which is totally acceptable and even nice in a small store) but due to the size of the mall, it gets out of hand.

I’ve been wondering if it matters you can’t use the specific designations for specific stores. I chose ‘hangout’ because I read that somewhere and it seems to indeed work. Do I understand correctly this will only be a problem for the stylist and the tattoo shop? It doesn’t seem to be a problem for the bakery.

Yes, I’d love to see pictures!

@JoAnne65 All rabbitholes, cash registers, and bars function correctly regardless of the lot type. So far as I've discovered, it's only the styling station and tattoo chair that won't be manned without the proper lot type.

I'll find my pictures and get them posted when I can.

I've finally made it home and have access to a computer again.

Here are the links to my first savvy seller store (mall)

Later on I'll post links and pictures to my Blue Building and my Rolling Thunder Roller Coaster that runs through a huge mall, plus one more related roller coaster lot.

The first two, Carter's Corner Store and the Blue Building are based on my idea of old fashioned stores. I have about 7 individual shops inside each of these buildings. The versions I actually use in my games have been amended somewhat and I suspect, if you download these you will want to change them to suit your own requirements.

I'll post links and pictures of the Blue Building later

I do recall one of them has an incorrect restroom door. I think it has two male doors instead of one male and one female on one of the levels. There are plenty of restrooms on other levels though.

Also, one of the shops, I think in the Carter's Corner Store, has the counters placed a bit too close to the wall and when the cashier arrives for work they occasionally arrive in the adjoining restroom which wouldn't be a particular problem if they happen to be the gender the door allows to pass through it.

There is a sweet shop in Carter's Corner Store and I changed it to a bakery in my game as the bakery set was released after I placed this lot onto the Exchange.

In The Blue Building I made a few changes to the nectary. I added extra counters and also added a few items from World Adventures that are available in Buy Debug but not elsewhere in the shops. I think it was the incense holders and the treasure chests.

These changes were just things that occurred to me that I'd like to have in my games. It isn't a requirement for you to change anything. I suspect you'll probably make up quite different things to do with each of them. Whatever, have fun.

Outside on the foot path is a popular spot after the store has closed at night. Sims gather there and continue to buy decor plants from the savvy seller mat outside on the footpath. They'll party there all night and it is fun to watch the action occasionally.

Miss Carter - I forget her first name - she came with Midnight Hollow.
    Shops-K6-Garden-Floor.jpg
I was playing this sim when I built this lot in Midnight Hollow. This garden shop is on the ground floor. It has a savvy seller register and a consignment register in it. I named the shop after the sim, hence its name is 'Carter's Corner Store'.

    Ground Floor Magic Shop

    MagicShop1.jpg

    Ground Floor Cafe
This cafe has additional tables out front on the ground. Sims like to sit there and read or play with their computers. In some games I've had routing errors with a table that's just inside the door to this cafe so I removed it. It seems to block the chef getting to work in the kitchen. I have no idea why as it wasn't a problem for years after I built it but it is for some chefs. There is plenty of room for them to walk past it but they choose to wave their hands in the air and complain instead.

    Shops-K19-GFCafe.jpg

If there is no chef at work the customers tend to just help themselves to the use of the kitchen.
    Shops-K18-GFCafe.jpg

It seems quite a popular spot in some games. Townies enjoy it.
    Shops-K17-GFCafe.jpg

I added a food register just for completeness. I don't recall seeing any townies using it but I don't watch it all the time.
    Shops-K16-GFCafe.jpg

This sim was specially made to try for a badge for me. She wants to be a Rock Star. I made her about the same time as I made this lot and didn't get her very far in her career. I recently added her to my Caroline And Friends game and she will now appear in subsequent episodes of my videos on Caroline and Her Friends - where they are all currently chasing University Life Badges.
    Shops-K32-GFCafe.jpg

There's a barista bar from University Life in the foyer just outside the cafe
    Shops-K8-GFloor-Foyer.jpg

In my game, I think I might have removed the savvy seller door from the cafe so sims could use it any time of the day or night. Can't remember for sure now. The cafe on the exchange will have a savvy seller door on the cafe, I think. I found some townies got a bit upset at night if they missed out on getting in there before the shops shut and they were hungry.

Second floor sweets shop - lots of Katy Perry Sweet Treats stuff in here. I gutted it and turned it into a bakery after the bakery was released. But the version on the Exchange still has the original Sweet Treats stuff inside. If you don't own KP Sweet Treats then the items from that stuff pack won't be in this shop and you will be free to add whatever you like to it.

    Second level foyer
    Shops-K13-MFFoya.jpg

    Shops-K23-TFF.jpg

    Shops7.jpg

    Top level Foyer
    Shops-K14-TFFoya.jpg

Sometimes it's easier to send a sim to the story to buy what is needed if it is stocked in the store than it is to go into Buy Mode and search for it. But it can be a heavy drain on the game if you have a lot of sims and other things happening in your save. I love to use these stores but tend to avoid them when I'm in a full large world.

If you do decide to download one, a rec would be appreciated as I'm trying to get the badge for 1,500 recs and I've got only a few left to get there. But only if you think it's worth a rec.

Happy Simming - I'll try to post pics and links of the others tomorrow or later.

@Karritz Amazing! I love the Victorian style of the building and the stores are lovely! (see you found room for a Katy Perry shop as well haha). The restaurant is a great idea (love the wall paper by the way; is that an in game pattern or CC?) and the magic shop. And it’s great how much furniture you can buy. I also love how green the flower shop is (her name is Kara, one of my favourite premades).

Thank you. There is no CC anywhere in that lot. I haven't loaded anything to the Exchange since I first started putting CC into my game. So nothing in my Studio has any CC in it.

There were a few Base Game only sims I loaded after I got my new computer in 2017. I made and loaded them after I installed the Base Game and patched to 1.55 but had nothing else relating to the game and definitely no CC on the computer. I added some more sims after installing some of the expansions but stopped loading anything once I started adding CC to the new computer.
