No, I think it's because they're just testing this, so they wanted to do the bare minimum so it would be easy to take out if the public didn't like it. But, if it's a hit, then they'll add more to vanilla. I think he said that to let the modders know that it is possible, just in case people are impatient (like me).

Im very excited, I am hoping that once they see how it works and all that they will add more to it down the road. I think its really good that they are starting slow with it and hope its to see how well it actually works being played, really excited tho! I cannot wait to make a forge artist!

I'm really looking forward to the new careers and I hope they will add even more options for freelance careers in the future.

This looks great! It’ll be nice to be able to choose specific jobs instead of just doing whatever.

I don’t get the whole “we can do freelance work at level five programming, this is unnecessary” attitude though. Pretty sure that was just another way for programmers to make money before they could make apps/games. There’s a difference between occasionally doing commissions for extra money and making a career out of it.

It’s too bad the video station came in Get Famous though, it would have been nice to have had that as an option instead of just getting random “cooking video please” requests from that one fame perk.

"- Why are they even doing this? It's unnecessary."

No, its not. If the yjsut focuse on adding "useful" things like you said, they would only add them in Packs, so.. Stop complaining for something we got for free. This was probably done by one of the Gurus in their free time, so... Feel grateful, otherwise you guys are going to be making them feel like they lost their time when they were probably thinking you all would be excited. Remember, there are people behind this game, REAL people, with real emotions that are jsut as passionate about this games as we are. By saying you guys would rather have something else, it makes them sad and dissapointed, even though they probably will never tell us that for professional reasons. Also, this careers have something to do with Get Famous Agencies feature, and will probably tie-in the next EP.
Also, they would probably have added more freelancer careers, but you guys have to keep in mind that they are limited at adding stuff to the base game, they can't (i don't know why) add anything related to Packs. Looking frm the perspective of the base game, there were not many options for freelancer careers.

Personally, I think all base game skills should eventually have a freelance option!

I would love it if they added things like carpenter and have them commision furniture and scuptures for clients .
    Laugh out loud. Often

@silverdust I agree! And maybe even skills that come in packs too!

They are never taking anything out, they just won't add to it. Either way, to me, there's no point to it if they are doing the same thing over and over. I think the user was right they did do the bare minimum although it is patched for free.

But the whole "it's just for testing" mentality needs to go. There's no beta testers here, they can hire beta testers themselves, they are putting this out as a "final product". Honestly I don't know how much time it will be until they add something interesting to the freelancer career, or if that is going to take away time and work for something else.

I have seen plenty of times on here people begging the devs to overhaul bg careers so that they weren't strictly rabbit holes. Now they've done that by adding this option, which was likely the least expensive and time consuming way to do it, and they're giving it to us for free along with a lot of other stuff and people are complaining that it's not good enough for them? Wow! :o the sense of entitlement of some people is really astonishing.

I've been wanting the option to be a freelance writer/artist for years so I'm very happy with this. :)

I wouldn't say we are acting entitled. We are simply stating our opinions and why we feel the way we do. We aren't insulting anyone that does want this. I even admitted that perhaps there must be more to it than just what was discussed here. If there is then great - that may make it worth it. We are all players - we all want different things. We should be alright with that. I am not going to insult the people that DO want this just because I think it's redundant. The players I don't think asked for this - they are being given it and that's okay. They more than likely didn't even know it was going to be an option. But when I weigh this against more things for elders, more spots to take vacations, education related things (including professions and zones), new lot types, new skill sets etc then my honest opinion is that I find this lacking. I am not going to apologize for that.

Again...they're giving it to you for free! I was brought up that when someone gives you a gift, you don't complain about it, you say thank you. They could, and probably should based on many of the prevailing attitudes in these forums, just drop bug fixes (which according to SimGuruNick, this will be a huge hug fixing patch in addition to all the freebies) and any other content should be paid content. Because I honestly don't see why they should bother doing the extra niceties considering all the plum they get in return.

This may sound silly but I'm looking forward to having sims sit at their laptops in cafes. I've always liked the atmosphere in the cafes but never had a reason to use them as bars/restaurants were better for socialising and having fun.

I'm also hoping that laptops aren't as enticing as computers and that sims will actually leave them alone for a while!

I'm actually pretty excited about the freelance writer and artist careers. I wish they had made a daycare/babysitter one or maybe a band as well, but happy about it none the less.
Have a super fantastic awesome splendid amazing day! -TheQxxn

I'm not sure how I feel yet since I didn't watch the stream. I'll wait to fully form my opinion until I get the chance to play with it a bit. Although, I've said in the past that it feels like they just keep repeating the same careers we already have with slight variations that hardly set them apart and it seems like I might also have some of the same qualms with this career. It's cool we're getting another laptop though. That'll be nice for the people who want one, but don't want StrangerVille.

I'm excited about the career type but we already kinda have the careers already so that's not new.

I am over the moon that this has been created and I am content in knowing that it was build to add more. These 3 are the areas I use most in my sims games and look forward to the added interactions.

@thatsnotsweg @Simpkin Hmm...I didn't really think about it but your right. We do have these careers already. The more I think about it, the more i'm starting to think this was a little unnecessary. I think I agree with you on being more excited for the career type than the careers themselves.

Yeah that seemed a little...idk. it seemed like a weird thing to say to me. Modders are amazing but they shouldnt rely on them to create more content like you said.

More options and ways to play are always welcome in my opinion! I would love if they expanded on it. A lot of my sims are self employed types so I'll most likely use it a lot!

The options seem good and to reasonably mimic a simified version of the real life careers. Also glad the system will be in place as it will hopefully allow modders to hook in. This is important as modders don't have an easy time creating new systems (virtually no mods have good UX), but excel at making content, so this should hopefully help now that a system and UI elements will be in place.

I'm wondering what the difference (in the game) is between being freelance and self-employed? They're not exactly synonyms, but in game terms, it seems like freelance would fall under the umbrella of self-employment.
